wow its just an opinion, and i told Mass Effect would flop and get an 8.5.

I can see why someone would give it a 7.
The game was obviously rushed and unfinished, and it's combat system is bad.

I don't need an explaination of a simple concept. I simply pointed out you can infact buy it and they do in fact sit right next to each other in some stores. What isn't true about that?
I didn't compare them, andI think you're confusing me with another poster.
And please refrain from assuming what reviews I have or have not read.

Indeed, i was talking about the first guy who said EDGE was one of the worst gaming magazines ever; which simply isn't true.
And i will indeed assume what reviews he has and hasn't read when it's incredibly obvious.

That's exactly what i've been trying to say to all the people who are simply looking at the scores. It's not like gamespot; you have to actually read the review text itself.

[QUOTE="Ninja-Vox"]It's very simple; he often posts using simple logic. I rarely see anything wrong with anything he posts. You simply twist every possible topic into pro-sony stuff. Always. Without fail. Thus, you have no right to call him a fanboy. And he has every right to call you one.
Sorry. But that's the way you post, and that's the sort of thing which comes with it.
King_of_Sorrow
Sure, we all have perspective on things. Some think Bin Laden is a terrorist, some think he's a savior.
No, sorry. There is no deep comparison of metaphores here. I am familiar with pretty much all the posters here. You were yelling about how he's a fanboy and has no right to call you one, and i thought "hell yeah he does..." because simply put, you are a fanboy. He is not. At least nowhere near to the degree you are.
And as i said earlier, this shouldn't be remotely offensive nor surprising; it's simply the way you post.
[QUOTE="InsaneBasura"]What's your point? Mine is that a crappy game got the same score as a good one. Are you telling me that reading the Beowulf review would magically make it a good game?
Ninja-Vox
I'm telling you that if you actually read EDGE magazine you'd see that it's nothing like gamespot and therefore "this game got a 9 and this one got an 8, the 9 must be bettter" isn't how things work.
Halo 3 for example; even if it was an amazing game, if it was full of bugs it would have been slapped with a 7 because they take into account the studio, the budget, the publisher, the director. They review games like movies are reviewed, taking far more into account than "this game is good therefore it gets an 8." Some games are expected to meet a certain standard; if it shows signs of laziness or being unfinished, it'll be penalised.
You will find a game with a 6 getting game of the month over other games getting 8's and 9's. Simply put, read the reviews, and all will become clear. Dont comment just on scores.
yup this is why ME got an 7

Indeed it is imported by some stores. I was simply talking about how they dont sell it in the US; only the UK. I didn't think about stores which might import it.
Although my point was simply that it should not be compared to gameinformet; that's like comparing Maxim to the new york times.

because Uncharted is a RPG too. :| People wonder why I defend the PS3...
I think the easiest way to describe it is to just look at movies; they no longer tell you whether seeing a movie is worth the $10 for a ticket. It changed long ago as the movie industry developed from REVIEWING a film based on whether it's worth your cash and time, to critiquing films based on given standards; directing, production, story, dialogue, character depth yadda yadda yadda.
You often find films well worth seeing getting 50 or 60% on rotten tomatoes, simply because they are critiqued, not just reviewed. They are compared to other films, set against a standard for that particular genre. Smokin' Aces for example - an awesome film - but it was up there in the same genre as cult films like reservoir dogs. Because it wasn't as good, it's at 20% right now. That's horrible.
EDGE, seeing as it has been going since forever, is pretty much the same. A 6/10 isn't necessarily a bad thing given the standards for that genre or platform or whatever. Like i said earlier, a game may receive a 7 and get the game of the month tag over a game getting a 9. You simply have to read the reviews to get the real low-down on how good the games are.
It's not just numbers like it is on IGN or gamespot.

so they give numbers just for fun ? witcher sure as hell doesn't deserved 5. no matter how good their written review is if the y can't rate the game properly, its not a good characteristic

Same thing. And no, just no. Normally i'm all "well that's your opinion..." but that is just flat out wrong. There is no way you can read GamePro and then read EDGE and say they're anywhere near the same quality.

No. Like i and two other guys said; you have to read the magazine. You cannot pass judgement on something you haven't read. Nor can you say "the witcher deserves more than a 5" because you have no idea of what their standard was or what the comparitive value of a 5 is.
You're simply saying 5 on gamespot = bad, therefore 5 for the witcher in edge = bad. Edge sucks. It doesn't work that way.
Honestly guys, there's a reason they have a section in the magazine of quotes from forum posters complaining about scores. Like i said, just read one issue and all will become clear.
Meh I stopped reading Edge ages ago, why pay for reviews I can read up on the web some times a month earlier....csliney
They need to stop making a god damn book every month on crazy expensive paper. It's amazing anyone still buys it when you can get by with internet reviews really.
[QUOTE="osirisomeomi"]I can see why someone wouldn't like mass effect. unless you really like listening to dialogue, the game isn't very good. i mean, it has buggy graphics and a so-so combat system, and the sidequests are repetitive.ironcreed
Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but professional reviewers are not supposed to just give a score based on their personal preferences. They are supposed to judge the game from the unbiased stanpoint of whether or not the game is quality in regards to it's particular genre and for the fanbase that it will appeal to. And on top of that, the quality of the game in general as well.
haha, key word is 'supposed to'. I don't trust game reviewers any more than I trust people on this forum when it comes to reviews. Less, because gamers and reviewers have different systems to evaluate a game. gamers 'is it fun', reviewers 'does it check the boxes'.
[QUOTE="naval"]so they give numbers just for fun ? witcher sure as hell doesn't deserved 5. no matter how good their written review is if the y can't rate the game properly, its not a good characteristic

i am comapring hellgate and witcher. hellgate is reptitive, more buggier, nothing special and i cannot even think of one reason that it could be better ! seriously when there are so many sites which do a nice review and give a almost proper score , i don't really need to read edge magzine.
