[QUOTE="LeonSykes10"] To be precise, it died after Sakaguchi and Uematsu left.hayato_
^^^This and only this is why FF has become rather unpleasent, its like trying to make a mario game without miyamoto, this is why resident evil 5 sucked because Shinji Mikami left and the reason the new Ninja gaiden will suck because Itagaki is not at the helm.Sakaguchi was the heart and Uematus was the soul RIP Final Fantasy twas fun while it lasted
and yet Kitase, Nomura, Shimomura, and Hashimoto are all still there :|Sakaguchi is the Alpha and the Omega.
He was there when Final Fantasy began, and he was there when Final Fantasy ended after XI.
Regardless of the other people, without Sakaguchi, Final Fantasy just isn't Final Fantasy any more.
I know some of you guys disagree with me, but you can't argue that Final Fantasy hasn't been the same ever since Square became Square Enix.

True, but that doesn't mean what came after XI was bad. XII and XIII are polar opposites in approach to gameplay and story alike, and both were amazing games. Lack of Sakaguchi is felt, but the IP still has some potential left if worked correctly.
Still, nothing compares to FFIX :o

I never mentioned a lack of quality... Final Fantasy XII and XIII are perfectly decent games... but they aren't Final Fantasy.
They don't have that same magical aura that defined the series. They feel like different games with the Final Fantasy name slapped onto them.

I kind of feel that the franchise was going downhill even before Sakaguchi letf Square. FFIX was the last great FF title.[QUOTE="mmmwksil"]

I think FFXIII would just be a mediocre game in general with pretty graphics. But I do agree with you when it comes to FFXII. While it is one of my favorite FF titles it felt more like a Spiritual successor to Vagrant Stories or Tactics (which was kind of the point) that said it should of been just about Ivalice title rather than a main stream FF game.[QUOTE="peterw007"]

Now it's part of the main canon. So... better for everyone? :P
Ivalice is one of the greatest worlds crafted for the series, IMO. Having it as part of the canon is only better for the series credentials.

To each his or her own. Final Fantasy has just done what every installment has done.
Something different and people sometimes don't like different. IMO Sakaguchi's favorite FF (Final Fantasy IX) was one of the weakest I've played.
In terms of regular Final Fantasy games te series is fine. People are still gonna buy it, some are gonna hate it and some will love it. End of story. Doesn't matter if Sakaguchi was there or not.
[QUOTE="turtlethetaffer"]-Linear -Easy -Bad story, characters -Extremely repetitive -Shallow combat, barely in control over AI party members -Poor pacing -Leveling system -No towns Sure was pretty, though. So, like Final Fantasy X then. Why do people hate FFXIII so much? It's a good game.

FF's brand?
Let me put it this way. I haven't played the games. Judging by my impressions, if I were to start playing the games I would want FF6. The impression I get from everything afterwards is not good. A lot of people say FF7 is the appex of the series, but from my impartial view it was the problem. You got to divorce the series from the anime sensibility. It is not appealing for a game that is supposed to be immersive. I know Japanese culture is different from ours, but the previous FF games were successful and weren't trying to be Akira.
A lot of people make a big deal of western vs. japanese preference. I agree that that is true, but a lot of what is western vs japanese has devolved into substance vs style. A lot of people just say things like 'japanese just like it like that', but japanese games weren't always like that and back then gaming in japan was much bigger and japanese games were more popular over here. Coincidence? imo, japanese devs just don't listen to the customer. You can track the rise of Bethesda to them doing nothing else but listening to the customer.
So why won't Bethesda listen to me when I say they should make something fun? :(FF's brand?

Kitase and Nomura are overrated...and in fact Kitase gave director's credit to Sakaguchi for FFVI. Kitase is good at big moments, but can't put a story together properly. Nomura has less than half the talent Amano did and turned the series into a scifi anime. FFVII, VIII, X, and XIII really aren't Final FANTASY games....they are bad anime sci-fi. FFIX was the most true post FFVI...FINAL FANTASY game. The series needs a reboot, even a Western team to do it, and to go back to its roots without being cliched in its plot. FFIX easily kills the Kitase/Toryiama FF's...........the only bad thing about FFIX is the cliched main plot, however, it styas true to the series roots. The cluelessness of square is amazing... Just blame everything on FF14.
bad_fur_day
What do you mean the cluelessness? From a business standpoint previous Final Fantasy titles sold well.

FFX did not have AI controlled party members, the combat was way ahead of the auto attack rubbish in FF XIII was not as poorly paced as FF XIII ( 25 hour tourtorial WTF square) Characters some were annoying but at least you had the option of completey ignoring the rubbish ones( I"m looking at you Kimari and Wakka) as opposed to being forced to play as the unholy hell spawns known as Vanille Hope And Snow. And finally FF X was not as linear as FF XIII
