I actually did a survey in my dormitory on this subject for my pych 300 class.
Couple statements that came up multiple times:
- None of my friends play on PC.
- I don't wanna play with keyboard and mouse.
- I don't have a gaming computer.
- I never see computer games advertised on tv.
- I never see any pc games in the stores.
- I can't play halo, gears, god of war, or killzone.
Those were the top of the list I had accumolated.
Now as I am a PC gamer, I can understand some of findings. People are very advertisement focused. When none of your friends play on Pc or you don't get bombarded with ads for exclusive PC games then people come to conclusion that PC is dumb, waste, boring, to complicated, or does not have any good games. It comes with the culture we live in. I personally though try to educate people on the joys of PC gaming even if its not absolute hardcore gaming. Games for free like trackmania, mechwarrior 4, command & conquer, Combat Arms, wolfenstein, americas army, soldat etc etc of free games really helps me to start people out. Its amazing when people find out good games they can play while they are in class or at home on there laptops. It usually starts folks out rethinking PC gaming in general. I usually then show them direct2drive, impulsedriven, gamersgate, and steam and they start to enjoy 1000's of games for really cheap.
PC gaming has many great exclusives that go unknown outside the Pc fans who know whats to come. Even big name games like starcraft 2 its advertised by the fans more then by the corporate side of things (though for this game there has been many things on gaming mags etc).
