come on dude, you know he meant audio.

I didn't want to assume anything lol. I don't see why audio enthusiasts wouldn't want the Ps3 though.

i know, one would actually expect better audio from a ps3 than a bog standard blu ray player, especially seeing as the audio on MGS4 is 7.1 lossless audio, if i was goin t to buy a blu-ray player i would buy a ps3, because the video/audio is hardware accelerated, how may blu-ray players come with GPU gardware acceleration

not really, you can get a 20gb HDD which is more than enough for 20 quid here in blighty, they are dirt cheap since MS phased them out in favour of the 60 gb drives, or you can just swap discs i suppose.

I already have the 20GB though. It just irks me because we should be able to buy any freaking HDD we want. But MS are pricks about it.

I don't care about swapping discs by the way, just hate what MS did with the HDD.

It's needed for AV enthusiasts too.

Yeah, but audi enthusiasts would pick another bluray player than the PS3. Not disagreeing though, just pointing out.

Sorry for the silly question, but audi means what?

haha audio, audi is a car.

i know what you mean, it would be nice if i could put a 300gb plus HDD on my 360, then i could install my entire games catalog onto it, i think what MS where worried that a normal HDD could be virused.

An enthusiast would pick something else since there's is actually something better for 7.1 sounds, however with better hardware comes a higher price. When comparing picture quality between the various bluray players they're all identical. So if you're a regular casual movie watcher just buy a PS3. Oh and the PS3 is NOT bad, it just can't supply as good a sound quality as others, more expensive bluray players can.

Well in either case it's ending up *bad*. 20GB's minus what? 6-7GB's for OS, that's not alot if the developers start making multidisc games that needs to be partly installed. Nomatter what 20GB's is not a whole lot, 40GB's for the PS3 is also somewhat too little. I've changed my 40GB into a 320GB so no problem for me anymore. :)

The only thing higher priced BD players do that Ps3 can't to my knowledge is bitstream HD codecs (which is debatable as to if there is a difference or not), 7.1 HD sound (I'm pretty sure for Ps3 it's the two back speakers are matrixed).

I've never hard other BD players outputing better quality sound though.

Otacon : Hold it, Snake. Time to change the disc. I know, I know...
It's a pain. But you need to swap Disc 1 for Disc 2. You see
the disc labeled "2"?

Snake : No.

Otacon : Huh? Oh, wait! We're on PS3 system! It's a Blu-ray Disc.
Dual-layered, too - no need to swap.

Snake : Damn it, Otacon, get a grip!

Otacon : Yeah, what an age we live in, huh, Snake? Wonder what
they'll think of next!

Reminded me of that! Anyway, good for FM3, I guess...

I'm sure they will come up with a way that it won't be too obtrusive. It would still be cool to pull into the pits and see how quick you can swap discs.

Well I'm really not that big of an enthusiast and I had a hard time hearing the difference, but there certainly was some. The rest however had no problem hearing a difference in sound. I can't come with some technical solution to why. Oh another thing about the PS3 is while it shows just a good picture quality as the rest while watching regular bluray movies, the other bluray players showed better DVD quality. Since alot of people have tons of DVD's that's also to be considered, if you are an enthusiast. However this is getting off-topic :D

Yeap 2 discs might become more of a trend for the 360. Saying that I played and loved MGS4 but some if those load times made the thought of having to get up and change a disc welcoming. I could have made a 3 course meal between some of the MGS4 load times. I'm slightly older that most being in my 30's so I'm no stranger to have to change discs for game. Not an issue as long as you don't have to be changing discs ever 10 mins.

I cant believe people are saying Blu-ray is not needed. sure disc swapping is not an issue, honestly dont see the problem with disc swapping, but still it would be nice to not have to disc swap. Just like in Star Ocean IV on 360, If you want to continue playing after you beat the game, you need to constantly swap between two disks, since one optional dungeon is in disk 2; and your ship, where you can create items and stuff, is in disk 3. imo, its like wired and wireless controller.

That's more of an issue with development team being poor than anything. In past FF games, you didn't have to switch anything when going into extra areas or past dungeons. So that's just poor development by Tri-Ace.

there wont be any disc swapping you install all the cars and tacks to your HDD. Yes DVD is becoming out dated but 360 has been out 5 years and only 1 game as of now has been multi-disc

halo odst and mass effect 2 have also been confirmed with 2 discs. I'm assuming alan wake will be as well. I sense a trend lol.

navyguy21

Since when does Mass Effect 2 have 2 discs?? Link??? The only one that does in Mass Effect 1 Platinum edition with themes, dlc, and gamerpics on it:|

they said 2 discs during the gamespot thing. The good news is there is no texture popin and load times they say are greatly improved plus ultra fast framerates. ODST is also 2 discs. They said that during the gamespot thign as well, although the second disc for that one is just all the expansion stuff from halo 3 and other stuff for multiplayer and stuff i believe.

i honestly would rather everything be on one disc. BEing forced to do huge installs is not right by microsoft. it's not that big a deal, the games will work fine, but it's still cheesy on microsofts part. it's definately not ideal. they are kind of stretching the 360 beyond it's limits at this point. which if it equals good games and 2 discs id rather than than nothing, but still... the 360 will have great games that are on par with anything else on the market that's the good thing. It's just kind of cheesy.

the disc drive in the 360 is dated

so is the processor

these are two advantages sony has. I've said this all along. Can the 360 still make great games and compete? sure but they are stretching things beyond their limit at this point. For this coming year the 360 is going to be awesome but it's going to start showing it's limitations really soon if it isn't already. They are pretty much pushing it to its limit and past at this point. I own one and actually think it's going to be better than the ps3 for the next year, but after that it really is toast.

I don't see how it is needed for this.

Sure it makes it so you don't have to load the extra content, but you can still play the game.

And I won't be getting Forza 3. Don't like racing games.

You can't see how it's needed for this?? Maybe so they can actually fit the game on 1 disc???

Anyway a quick google search backs up what I'm saying:

Results 1 - 10 of about 145,000,000 for blu ray is needed. (0.18 seconds)
Results 1 - 10 of about 20,500,000 for blu ray is not needed. (0.50 seconds)

Using Google results to back up stupid claims? That's such a PS_John thing to do ;)

Anyway, it's no big deal for me if I can install the second disc to my hard drive.

Wow space must be getting pretty tight for the 360 if a racing game needs 2 disc. He says "Disc two includes a lot of extra cars, even a handful of tracks." So if i want to play with "x" car i have to change disc ?? then if i want to use a different track or car thats not on disc 2 i have to swap again ??

no, most games developed for the 360 now, are built with HDD installs in mind, all you do is install both discs, then you only have to put disc one in the drive (for security reasons) to play the game, it's only a problem if you don't have a HDD

Yeah...it sounds a bit odd!

I think it could work better the way GT2 did. 1 disc for career mode and the other for arcade, multiplayer, etc

That seems like a really weird split... How the **** will that even work? Those cars and tracks have to be omitted from the career mode, or treated seperately somehow. You will only be able to race disc 2 cars on disc 2 tracks. How will multiplayer work with that stuff? Sounds immensely stupid.

This was expected to happen some time. Now I guess it's time for X360 owners to support MS even more by buying the overpriced hdd's from them..LOL. While PS3 owners can buy one from anyone and anywhere. I have said it all along, BD is needed.

Some people here have talked about the sound quality in games, and the winner here is the PS3. The reason for this is mainly because of the higher bitrate on the sound sampling it can have because of BD, not the 7.1 compared to 5.1. To get more space available on each disc on the X360, they sacrifice the bitrate and the amount of sound, because this takes up a lot of space. Remember, X360 only have 6.8GB available on each disc. Try out the first Uncharted game which supports DTS and PCM surround, this game have every game beat in the sound department. Most PS3 exclusives has better sound than other games.

Expect GT5 to be at least 30GB!!!

Wow space must be getting pretty tight for the 360 if a racing game needs 2 disc. He says "Disc two includes a lot of extra cars, even a handful of tracks." So if i want to play with "x" car i have to change disc ?? then if i want to use a different track or car thats not on disc 2 i have to swap again ?? micky4889

I hope not... hopefully devs are working on the best solution in having least possible disk swapping..

Still though that wont keep me from getting the game, Forza is a great racing franchise & Forza3 will surely be an amazing title..

[QUOTE="horgen123"][QUOTE="DJ_Lae"]Sounds kind of like expanding Rock Band 2 with content from the Rock Band disc. Kind of annoying (I only have a 20GB drive), but given how much Turn 10 I can fit in my mouth, I'm all over it.

I have 20gb drive to... Maybe time for an upgrade?

i though i was the only one who hadn't upgraded, i am rather fond of my 20gb HDD it's been with e since the beginning, oh well, times move on i suppose, can i transfer my profile via a memory card to a new HDD?

people with small harddrives or no harddrive at all are going to get squeezed.

The data could not be all that massive, but yes, people who bought the gimpy 360 are going to get a gimpy experience. Sucks for them, maybe they should have taken MS up on that $20 HDD.

no, most games developed for the 360 now, are built with HDD installs in mind, all you do is install both discs, then you only have to put disc one in the drive (for security reasons) to play the game, it's only a problem if you don't have a HDD

Ya thats what i'm going to do but i feel bad for the arcade owners if this is how the game is going to work.

I think you can transfer everything with it. You can also "recover profile" if I remember right.

Yeah...it sounds a bit odd!

I think it could work better the way GT2 did. 1 disc for career mode and the other for arcade, multiplayer, etc

Thats the way i thought they would have done it, 1 disc for single player and 1 for multiplayer but by the sound of it they're going to split up the cars and tracks.

It's laughable how people say that blu-ray is not needed. I guess those people will have to eat their words nowPS_John

Blu-Ray is the reason the PS3 is in last place, don't forget that when you're mocking the disc swapping.

Thing is though GT Mobile is on psp which means the textures wont be as high-res than on Forza3. Plus you also gotta count sound
