Switching disks in-game is so last gen.

Gxgear

Good thing you don't have to do that with Forza 3.

How does that work with the $200 dollar 360 arcade version that lemmings seems to own? I say this because the 200 dollar figure is being used in EVERY PS3/360 comparison threads.

Ugh. You're trying too hard. The fact that you can buy a 360 for $200 doesn't mean everyone on this forum has the Arcade model. It's just an option, nothing more.

I still don't see how this means Blu-Ray is needed since this game is still gonna be released not on Blu-Ray.waynehead895
Well, technicaly you don't need dvd either; multiple cd's would probably work.

Blu-ray isn't needed, it was said that the full game experience can be played, but disc two will be EXTRA content that I'm quite sure would've just been released as DLC at a later date anyway.

You either don't use the content or download it onto the internal memory of the arcade version (if it fits). As far as I know, the second disc is only a download disc. There would be no reason to switch to it.

I highly doubt 512mb of memory can accomodate anything else other than save files/updates. Nice try though.

If they own an Arcade, they can head on over to Ebay and get a 20 GB HDD for between 20 and 30 bucks or a 120 GB HDD for $70. :|

That means you have to buy the overpriced hdd.

Or go to MS's website and apply for a free 256MB memory card or $20 20GB HDD.

Well, ps1 had cd, ps2 dvd, and ps3 bd. So, it's been progress every gen. Xbox dvd, 360 dvd....No progression with the storage medium. That's what I think the whole thing is about.

Blu-Ray is the reason the PS3 is in last place, don't forget that when you're mocking the disc swapping.

The_Game21x

Am I meant to care that the PS3 is in last place sales wise? It doesn't affect me at all :S

PS3 has the best games library now and no one can argue with that. The exclusive games like MGS4 let devs take advantage of bluray and the cell.

Games > Sales

I've noticed how Sheep and Leemings never boast about their games when comparing them to the PS3, it's always sales.. I wonder why???

And yet, the Xbox 360 still has the highest rated exclusives this gen, second only to the PC. :|

PS3 as more than twice the amount of AAA exclusives the 360 has. And yes, PC games don't count as exclusives.

No it doesn't. It's tied with the 360 in terms of AAA exclusives and the 360 has several more AA and A rated exclusives.

And no, I'm not counting PC/360 games in those numbers.

Shopping around for deals? This is stuff I looked up on my own, weeks before this argument even began.

The Arcade is a perfectly valid argument because it exists. The fact of the matter is, if a prospective customer is in a store looking to buy a new console, they can buy an Xbox 360 Arcade for $200. There's no debating that.

Would I buy one? Sure. I'd buy it before I bought a Pro console because I know I can get a 120GB HDD to go with my Arcade, getting double the space the Pro system offers for less than the price of the Pro.

I know it probably has been mentioned already but...

Gran Turismo 2, two discs. One for Arcade Mode and one for Simulation Mode.

And I have no problem installing a game. I always have room for one on my HDD and it takes 5 minutes and blasts load times away.

Still no release date for GT5 though. At least we're getting a game. You know, one with more than 76 cars, 6 tracks and 720p racing. 400 cars, 100 tracks and 60fps 1080p racing.

foxhound_fox

Ehm....GT5p has a lot more details and better graphics than any other racer to date. It's great that you finally are getting a next gen racer, but don't assume too much. Forza 3 will probably be 60 fps, but don't assume it will be 1080p. It will probably be 980x1080p native, just like GT5p. It only upscales the 980 part. And by the looks of it, GT5 will be a lot bigger than Forza 3. With Nascar, Rally, pikes peak races, and all the other stuff.

no it's not needed, i will just install both discs to my hard drive, then i won't have to do ANY disc swapping whatsoever, PC gamers have been getting games on multiple discs and installing there games to HDD for years, you only need to keep disc 1 in the drive, it also has the added bonus of saving wear and tear on the drive cos it's not spinning all the time, besides, it's faster to change a disc than wait for a mandatory install, and if bluray is so needed, how come the hermits have not all moved over to blu-ray drives?oh yeah thats right, PC devs don't use blu ray discs.

Pc gamers aren't limited to a maximum HDD size of 120GB. You will reach a point were you will have to install and delete between games when you run out of space. Face it Micro$oft really screwed the arcade users, i can see them releasing a bigger HDD and slugging everyone money to buy it

You work for Turn 10?

And I hope GT5 is bigger than Forza 3... its been in development for over 5 years and still doesn't have a release date. Forza 2 came out May 29, 2007. Since the last proper Gran Turismo game, GT4 (January 2005), THREE Forza Motorsports will have been released. Two of them AAA and one still up for review.

And if anyone wants NASCAR and rally, they can buy proper NASCAR and rally games designed for those specific types of racing already. Like DiRT (June 2007 on 360), its sequel DiRT 2 (September 2009), NASCAR 09 (June 2008 on 360) and NASCAR 08 (July 2007 on 360). All GT-fans are doing is waiting... while anyone who owns a 360 can own the two best NASCAR games, the two best console Rally games and three of the best console racing sims (Forza 2, Race Pro and Forza 3) before Playstation owners even get the full release in the main entry to their most favourite racing series.

I'm pretty sure you were being sarcastic (and by pretty sure, I mean 100% positive) with that statement but you're right. Blu-Ray isn't needed and the fact that Forza 2 is shipping with two discs doesn't change that.

I was being a little bit of both

Most games have trouble filling up a DVD9, but saying it is completely useless is wrong. It is needed for those few games that are that large and ambitious.

Saying it is useless is entirely wrong, I agree 100%.

Same. And the opposite is true. It's not needed. It's just a convenience. I don't understand how people can say Blu-Ray is needed about a game that is most likely not going to be released on Blu-Ray format.

Yeah, I feel the same way. The fact that Forza 3 hasn't been canceled because the 360 doesn't have a Blu-Ray drive is proof enough that Blu-Ray is not needed.

This looks kind of bad, unless you have a HDD, then it's hardly an issue.

It won't as Microsoft competes with Sony and Bluray was developed by Sony; just as Sony uses its own proprietary formats instead of Microsofts. Anyways I don't really care about the matter as long as I don't have to change the disk mid-game.

I think the fact that a racing game is coming on 2 discs if proof that it is needed for some games, you can keep trying to downplay it by saying you can just install but face it the arcade owners are screwed.

According to this interview the cars and tracks are going to be split between disc 1 and disc 2 this means arcade owner that want to use a car from disc 2 he/she has to swap disc then he/she wants to use a track/car from disc 1, swap again, after that race is over they want a track from disc 2, swap again.

It's going to be a serious swap fest for the poor arcade owners.

Except for the poor Arcade owners who took advantage of MS's $20 20GB HDD offer.
