[QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"]"Wah stop picking on him guys"

Y'know the good thing about opinions is that people can debate, refute them ;).

Shinobishyguy

And that's exactly what's going on here. People's reactions to his opinion is totally rashional! Refuting and debating? Please. It's past that.

It doesn't matter, though. People are going to whine and moan, and not accept, his opinion no matter what.

And people that were dead set on hating the game from the begining are going to treat his criticisms like the gospel. Works both ways.

Hm, I don't see how that applies to anyone in here, at all.

I played a few hours of Assassin's Creed 2 but it got rather boring. I am able to play Zelda and have more fun for some reason. :)

There are a lot of System Wars formuites (that will come out of the woodwork soon and do just what he said) that go out of their way to come up with any kind of specious argument to justify their irrational hatred for anything Nintendo does. Trust me, I used to be one of them.

Yes because I'm sure you were just bursting with enthusiasm during all of the demos and interviews right?

Oh wait no, you were in the "it's gonna suck because TP sucked" camp

gameplay and production values can coexist, there have been tons of those games this gen not saying Zelda doesn't have those...haven't played it.

I agree wholeheartedly with you.

Yeah, the lack of rational responses still apply. I've said it numerous times: I read the Joystiq review and thought it was a well written review. IGN's review was just laughably bad.

I'll try to put it as clear as possible to you: I. Am. Getting. The. Game.

What's that? Trying to change the subject? Yeah, I didn't like Twilight Princess. Neither did thousands of other people. I absolutely love Wind Waker. Your point?

Batman Arkam city proves you can have equally amazing presentation and gameplay.

Reviews say SS will have both as well.

I think at this point the Wii has been getting so much criticism for so many years (some extremely justified mixed in with the usual BS like "Galaxy sux, kiddie!" etc) that many Wii fans have this sort of ultra defensive midset. It's hard to logically discuss potential problems\areas for improvement cos it just goes straight to "You hate Nintendo, *** off and play Xbox and leave me alone!" a lot of the time. It sucks when you're a Nintendo fan who wants to have a bit of a chat about what could be improved, cos you just get jumped on :P

I completely agree with this. It's not that we don't like people criticizing the game, it's only that the crticism is ridiculous in this case.

Having an opinion doesn't automatically make it a valid one. "I think the sky is green" is an opinion... but that doesn't make it more valid than "I think the sky is blue."

You can't make argument for the sky being green...

The guy made valid points, he did not say everyone should feel the way he should. People's reaction to his personal opinion is hilarious.

See again I get jumped on :P I didn't say that. All I said was there is some stuff that Assassin's Creed series does better then the Zelda series (not including SS since I haven't played it). But people start going mental, saying it's 100% perfect the way it is and if you don't agree YOU HATE NINTENDO RAR!!! Don't even know or care who this guy is, it's like if I said "Bob doesn't like you Shin!" you'd be like "OK, who the hell is Bob and why should I care?"

It can...but it really doesn't need it, Zelda is about puzzles, a fairy tail, an adventure, is not about focus on cinematics, nor celebrity Voice Actors or 1000 NPCs, you play Zelda to have a Zelda experience which it is unique, you want a complex RPG, go for Skyrim, you want an onrails game, go for Uncharted, you want Zelda, go for Zelda, just because some people don't like it, doesn't mean everyone don't like it.

Zelda has ALWAYS had high production values and top of the line world and gameplay design.

It just doesnt present itself in a manner that would translate well as a summer blockuster hollywood movie. You know, the thing that single-handedly threw japanese games behind western developed titles as far as press coverage and appretiation goes.

Nowadays if you want instant coverage, go CINEMATIC!!!!

I think those are his opinions and his preferences. If he prefers modern experiences and doesn't like Zelda as much, that's what he thinks. Doesn't make him wrong, though I wish he worded it differently so it didn't sound like he was trying to make a factual statement.

Japanese games aren't cinematic? Even though JRPGs have way more cutscenes and overly dramatic storylines then WRPGs?

Even tho MGS is, well, MGS?

And even those Japanese games that are praised for their pure awesome gameplay like Vanquish have plenty of cutscenes too, with a horrible b movie plot too.

I honestly don't get this "cinematic" thing people complain about. In Gears I'm blowing up alien **** same as I did in Red Faction on PS2, Turok on N64, Super Probotector (contra) on SNES, yet it's suddenly a bad thing? And only Nintendo with it's last gen tech is doing it right? Please explain, I wish to be enlightened.

Define what "go CINEMATIC" means, please :)

He said that the motion controls works 80% of the time and that it can be frustrating to die because of them. Also he said we should like to relax on the couch to play the game but with the motion controls you have to sit upright at attention to throw/roll bombs.Which can be very uncomfortable for a long game like Zelda. He also point out that the game is severely padded to stretch game time which has also be stated by other reviews. So he want s to cut the padding in the game to make shorter and he wants button controls for better accuracy, these complaints are not unwarranted to me

That's a joke, right? I though SW was past the "graphics are everything" phase. That's really the only thing Skyward Sword doesn't have over PS3/360 games.

His complaint is that half of Skyward Sword feels like filler quests like the Cat at the beginning of Twilight Princess. I'd rather have a 20 hour game with high production values too if the alternative is a bunch of stupid minigames padding the playtime.

Did you find it as odd as I did that GT was the only site to complain about the motion controls not working? Every other review said they were great. It sounds to me like they just don't like motion controls. Sitting up right comes with the motion controls and the game shouldn't be penalized for that. If he didn't like motion controls, he shouldn't have reviewed the game. As for the game time. What does he mean by padded? That comment is useless without an example.

A game who's pacing is a string of multiple scripted explosions and or events until the end credits roll. One that only hints at complex and detailed worlds but in fact frames all the action for the gamer because once you stop to look the other way, there is nothing there.

The most popular game this year is a great example. Its called Modern Warfare 3

Thats just his opinion, which I think is completely wrong. I don't see why we can't have a cinematic presentation AND a game over 50 hours.

[QUOTE="locopatho"]Define what "go CINEMATIC" means, please :)

Thunderdrone

A game who's pacing is a string of multiple scripted explosions and or events until the end credits roll. One that only hints at complex and detailed worlds but in fact frames all the action for the gamer because once you stop to look the other way, there is nothing there.

The most popular game this year is a great example. Its called Modern Warfare 3

Ok, that's what I understood it to mean. But then why apply it to Assassin#s Creed? That's a completely open and free roaming game with tons of stuff to do and see, side missions and collectables. Wouldn't sandbox games like that, Dead Rising, Saint's Row, RDR, etc, and WRPGs such as Skyrim, be the polar opposite of "cinematic" gaming? To be honest apart from some shooters (of which some were always done that way) I'm finding it hard to think of many more games to fit that description? Again, I don't see the issue. No one, not even dumbass fanboys, want Zelda to be linear and scripted into 8 hours :?

Other games manage it.

Those were just some of those complaints. He also mentioned that he feels like there's a lot of filler (there's a section where you have to play hide and seek with a bunch of chickens) between dungeons. He feels the game gives the illusion that it's different but it's still the same as all the other Zeldas. He felt the dowsing mechanic was frustrating and boring. Bomb controls don't work properly.

I played the Gamestop demo and I agree that the graphics are unpleasant and the bombs do take time to get used to. It is still great fun though. All his criticisms seem fair.

[QUOTE="EPaul"]

[QUOTE="SF_KiLLaMaN"] He wants the game to be shorter with button combat so he can lay down and play. Please explain how that is legitimate criticism. SF_KiLLaMaN

"Padded" means adding useless, unnecessary stuff like having to use the dousing mechanic to find chickens before you can progress in the game. Basically he says that they force you to do boring, unnecessary things before you progress further into the game. This point has been supported by other reviews. The motion control one point i havent heard about yet but i've only read a few reviews so far for Zelda. However i feel people should listen the Zelda segment of the podcast before they go bashing the guy because he gave his opinion on a game he has played already and many haven't.

Wait, the editor-in-chief of Game Trailers likes short and crappy movie wannabe games with no substance? So, you're surprised why exactly?
