but some of go to college(or about to go to college in my case) and need a laptop what do you suggest carry the PC you suggested to our classes and back? If you put that in laptop terms we are talking about at least $200-$300 more. Also some of cant build pcs on our own so we need to buy store brand items(adding probably at least $150 more to your pc)

so with that in mind your $622 now turns to $1000 to $1100 which is way too much. And yah sure if you add in live, a screen with vga cables, the extra game costs it will even out but at least with 360 route you dont have to come up with $1000 upfront you can take the hit over the course of three years which for me is a lot better.

Tactis

But if you don't buy a 360 then you could buy the laptop you need for college with the stuff you want in it. Either way you need a laptop, so there will always be an upfront cost.

I completely agree with this thread. I built a comp that had a:

680i SLI ATX motherboard

8800 GTX

700W PSU

Thermaltake Armour full-tower case with built-in fans for overclocking

2GB Dual Channel RAM

C2D E6750

320GB HDD

Xi-Fi deluxe sound

For about $1,510. I use my 1080p HDTV as the screen. It blazes through damn near anything I throw at it @ 2500x1600, save Supreme Commander.

dlp21

Nice rig but how can you play 2560x1600 on a 1080p TV?

It doesn't matter what resolution the screen itself is running at; it can output a higher resolution. It's just 1080p native.

Umm, that makes no sense, the screen can only display 1080 vertical lines, it can't all of a sudden display more because you want it too.

Huh... I guess you're right. I guess the fact that I could do 1920x1080 on a 1680x1050 monitor doesn't prove anything at all...

;)

And really, I don't care what you say, as I'm doing 2560x1600 on games like Company of Heroes on my 61" HDTV (bliss) so... argue all you want. You're arguing something you don't know about.

The beauty of PC gaming is you can spend what you want on the hardware you want. If you desire a cheap gaming PC, you can build it. If you want a balls to the walls rig with liquid cooling and enough ornamental lights to remind you of Christmas, you can do it.

There is no right or wrong. Make what you want and enjoy it. Building a PC is simple and there are plenty of tutorial on how to do it. You can be competitive in your PC, or you can be prudent, logical, fickle, lavish, whatever.....just do what you want.

Or you can buy a professionally builtPC with unlimited selection. If money is no object, do it. Enjoy it and don't let anyone tell you you overpaid. It doesn't matter because you like it and it screams performance.

PC > all others.

Huh, that's funny because I have my PC hooked to my HDTV as well and it's Max Res is 1920x1080. Real weird that you can claim to have all this infinite wisdom too, I mean I am prolly just some punk kid that has mommy and daddy buy him everything.

lol, no your not. If it is a 1080p tv the maximum it can do is 1920x1080. Its probably upscaling or something, either that or yoiur breaking the laws of physics :|

And you have a crappy power supply. There's no way I'd put a garbage supply in a gaming rig.

Bottom line is consoles are so much better in terms of cost, convenience, and games.

WildTurkey00

Cost? Don't think so. Consoles are riddled with hidden costs. Do you think console manufacturers really give all that hardware away for free?

Convenience? Don't think so. I can do so much more from my PC than anyone could ever do on their console. And I don't have to move to another specialized hardware device. Console are limitedand inconvenient.

Games? Don't think so. No console can match PC library. None.

Jesus Christ people, even ****ing Call of Duty 2 allows you to run the game @ 1920x1200 on a 1680x1050 22" monitor (I used to own one; I should know)!

NT its impossible, your 1080p res is 1920x1080. No HDTV can do 2650x1600.

If an HDTV could do more then 1080p don't you think someone would have slapped a bigger number on it and someone else would be making a DVD format that supports that resolution.

Hmm... then why is it that when I switch from 1900x1200 to 2560x1600, there's a VERY noticeable improvement? Explain that.

When I run a game, I can put it at a higher resolution (at the expense of FPS). When I exit the game, it reverts back to the resolution it was running at before I ran the game. Hello, people; why don't you go and try it? try running a game at 1900x1200 or 1920x1080 on a 1680x1050 monitor... it will work.

Unless you can prove that those parts will break in 6 months, 2 years or even 10 years..what your saying is pure speculation! According to top end PC's what I listed is obviously inferior but it more than works againts the claims laid againts PCs in general and that was the whole point of it.

Datheron

Uh - it's pretty common knowledge that greatly discounted pieces of hardware aren't discounted b/c they're quality - it's because the manufacturer skimped on the parts and the QA, and competes solely on the price. Even supposing that the components will continue to work 5 years down the line, anybody w/ $8 speakers and a $10 keyboard/mouse combo waste a perfectly good video card with crappy game input + audio output.

And I don't think it ever makes sense to compare PC's to consoles in terms of cost or functionality b/c they do such different things. Yes, you could build a PC that matches a console in price, but why would you ever when there's much more superior hardware which conform with modern standards and provide upgradeability? Your point is an obtuse one, if that.

To keep the performance above the consoles, not until a new console comes out, then you would have to upgrade, so about 5 or 6 years, not 6 months, you.......................FAIL!!!!!!!!

l-_-l

No, b/c consoles can be optimized as the generation matures whereas PC's have to be upgraded hardware-wise to get the same performance. Try to build a $120 PC which matches the specs of a PS2 and can run Gran Turismo 4 or God of War 2. 1.5-2 years is about right for minor hardware upgrades (by minor I mean a graphics card change, maybe more RAM or a new processor) if you want to keep everything running smoothly at your current resolution and AA/AF/detail settings.

A PC that is more powerful that a PS3 is still going to be more powerful 5 years down the road. There is no way around that fact. Your logic fails (suprise). My girls own PC was 5 years old before it couldn't play games. Even at low setting, it would still look better than a console if it is more powerful. Deal with it and move on, this isn't open for debate.

[QUOTE="a_ratchet_fan"]LOL, I really don't feel like posting a youtube video just to show y'all that I am in fact running Company of Heroes at 2560x1600 on a 1080p 61" HDTV, but if it comes down to it...a_ratchet_fan

you and the game may think you are, but you are not, fact.

go read up on how resolutions work.

You've gotta be kidding me.....

Wow... looks like I'm really going to have to youtube this. So sad...

Just for the record, my youtube ID is weirdguy112358.

I'll do a wager with y'all. I'll youtube this video within a week (this week, of course) as I need to find a decent camera/camcorder. I'll record myself switching from 1680x1050 to 1920x1080 on a 1680x1050 monitor on the game Call of Duty 2 just to prove that I am in fact telling the truth. I'll record the game running in both resolutions to prove that there is in fact a difference. Fair enough?

Obviously you can't change the resolution that windows itself is running at. However, the games themselves can run at higher resolutions. I realize that this sounds like I'm making an ass out of myself, but it happens to be true. Again, I'll youtube this within a week and link it.

Obviously you dont understand how resolutions are raited, its the amount of pixels that are on the screen, you cant magically add pixels onto the screen. And the max res i can run is 1680x1050 nothing higher.

I know. However, for some reason the image manages to look sharper/smaller/more detailed, as it has an actual option to up the resolution to 2560x1600. For all intents and purposes, it works; the image instantly looks sharper.

I guess so... and the guy who mentioned FRAPS... does it record in a format compatible with Youtube, or do you have to convert it? If it isn't, then I need some converting software...

I thought that was only possible if you made it yourself? There are actual retailers that are selling it that cheaply? Damn, I should've gotten it premade then...
