No.... If it's a rehash that lasts 6-8 hours, that is not good no matter how the fanboys slice it.

Really? even if it turns out to be the best time you had of your life?

How can that be if you already experienced it before?:|

Gears 1 wasn't that good dude, it just made the casuals think they were hardcore.

It was a cool game. If you actually read the link instead of what the TC cherry picked you will see they were extremely impressed with the game. I not saying Gears 1 single player was a masterpiece, but it was definately a game I enjoyed. Based on previews they sped up teh game and made it more intense. So you can bash the first Gears all you want, but Gears 2 looks to be teh real deal in terms of SP and MP.

If you are a chick, I can see why you would say that. "Omg, I actually have to do something to get his attention? Damn those videogames! Competition is bad!"

I'm still amazed that people expect a completely different game out of a sequel. Take a look at God of War 2. Basically the same game, but with a few things added, and some gameplay tweaks. That's usually what a sequel is. It's laughable that people spin "same ol', same ol'" into a negative, then crap on something when it does change. There's no winning for these developers. But I'm sure the sales and reviews will slap all negative criticism in the face.

Leejjohno

Yes but this is borderline suck. It wouldn't have been hard to improve on the length but Epic doesn't like making decent games these days.

Gears is beyond "decent", so no offense, but such petty comments mean little to me.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying life with videogames. I love gaming but that is not the highlight of my life. That goes to the great outdoors.

comparing geow 2 with a expansion pack, so i guess you also think geow 2 looks like a expansion .

and yeah warhead did feature a full multiplayer component "crysis war" and it did changed the pacing and design of the game from open-ended to the a more linear one

Indeed, it's not about to win over new fans. A few weapons and enemies aside – not to mention slight gameplay additions like the ability to use fallen foes as locust shields, and drag yourself across the ground once wounded – the core gameplay is close to a carbon copy of the original, right down to the split level design paths for co-op. If you hated GoW1, you'll hate this.

And there could still be reason to hate: we found ourselves sticking to pretty much the one gun throughoutso it looks like no new tactical depth has snuck into the arcade action - and there were a few moments that erred a little too much on the side of frustration and tedium - in particular a 'quest' to shoot incoming mortars out of the air before they crushed our ride into metal dandruff. Plus, it took approximately an hour on normal difficulty to complete the act, which would suggest a five to six hour experienceIF (and we have no confirmation)the game continues with the five act narrative seen in the original. Simply not long enough to excite fans who didn't get into the niche multiplayer component like they did Halo or Call of Duty... or who simply aren't online.

http://www.gameplayer.com.au/gp_documents/GoW-Act1.aspx?Page=4

If Epic truly hasn't changed up the core mechanics of its single-player and co-op, there's no way Gears 2 will deserve the AAAA or 9.5 status that lemmings are hyping it up to.

dgsag

how did you read that and come to that conclusion?

you really need to think about that and try again.

sure for the people that hated Gears of War, they'll still hate it. Who the hell thought Epic was interested in changing the game to suit the haters? :| :|

Imagine Valve changing Half-Life because the Unreal Tournament crowd found reasons to "hate it" that still remain in the next Half-Life game :|

You posted NOTHING to support your statement that the game is not worthy of a 9.5 or better. All you did was remind us that the game stick to the nature and formula that earned the original Game of The Year status.

Try again. Or don't.

Ask the people that are against Nintendo's games.

one sequel with similar gaming != 16 sequels with similar gaming.

just sayin.

a better example would have been Final Fantasy.

Good thing I loved the Gears SP from the first, so this is nothing but good news to me.

Hopefully they keep MP free of glitches and cheats.

Actually, in general usage, water is only the liquid form. Ice is the solid phase, and steam or water vapor is the gaseous phase.

the point is there will always be a subset of people who don't like the product. but it's not because the product is inheriently flawed; it's because the product isn't the kind of game X people are looking for.

You don't go to Gears of War looking for Rainbow 6 gameplay experiences.

You don't go to Mario Galaxy looking for Ratchet & Clank experiences.

You don't go to NFL Blitz for a madden experience.

and you don't complain about that either. all the TCs article did was whine about the things that people who bought the game really don't care about anyway. it will sell millions. people will love it. the end.

maybe thats why people think its better optomized, they had to sacrifice something....and this isnt helping you, you clearly said not everyone liked those changes, most people loved gears, i fail to see why an overhaul would be a good thing

i think some people are taking this the wrong way. i agree a game doens't have to be completely different then it's predecessor but you can't make a copy of a game. yes the gears 1 formate was great(atleast singleplayer) but if they truely didn't add much of anything to the gameplay and they didn't make a attempt to make it longer or atleast have a better story then that really is bad. again this is just one persons view and without actually playing it i'm not gonna stand here and say gear 2 WILL be a flop; just that if it doesn't change something here or there then it could be a flop

from TC's link:

"The same characters, the same grey walls, the same weapons… you would be forgiven for thinking that there has been no evolution at all. That it is merely an expansion pack to the original. But your thoughts will soon change."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"'Epic'. That is the first word that crept awestruck from our mouths when we had the Xbox 360 controller pried from our clenched hands and were pushed out a security door somewhere deep in the middle of Microsoft's Sydney headquarters."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"You'll watch in horror as a Corpser appears upon a hill-top and launches itself in your direction. Chilling stuff, and few games have ever rivalled this half hour of gameplay for sheer scope. You're going to bloody love it!"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"With Gears of War 2, it is like Epic Games grabbed every knob on their gameboard (which we just made up, but think of it like the gaming alternative of the soundboard) and cranked it up a few notches. Everything from the first game is there, it is just that much better. Sound effects are twice as robust, animations twice as fluid, the range of visual effects that more in-depth and you better believe there's gallons more gore. They've even found a few more colours. Unreal Engine 2.0 is not a new beast and doesn't deliver a different experience. It is instead an evolution of the middleware comparable to the way sport games like FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer move forward each year. It's heaps better"

I'm pretty sure everyone will properly working eyes could see that in the beginning.

I mean come on. Marcus is stil wearing the same exact armor as the first game, even after six months pass in the game. Seriously Epic? They couldn't find any new suits to look fresh? Lame.

SW choice 1: OMG!! Lame!!! it's exactly teh same!!!

SW choice 2: OMG!! Lame!! They haz changed my favorite game!!!!

Riverwolf007

SW choice 3: Good. I wanted more of the same, with reasonable improvements to the gameplay, netcode and mode feature set.

If Epic truly hasn't changed up the core mechanics of its single-player and co-op, there's no way Gears 2 will deserve the AAAA or 9.5 status that lemmings are hyping it up to.

Yet another COW who is upset they get to miss out on the best game of this year.

[QUOTE="SmartGuy2211"]^ i think Halo 1 to Halo 2 is a good example. A true sequel but very differentStevo_the_gamer
Actually, all three Halo games are very different to one anther. Funny how people call them "More of the same". Something that is extremely inaccurate.

you clearly mis-interpeted what they mean... its just more of the same mediocraty(i think thats how you spell it); not gameplay.

Skipping three pages of positive preview to post the conclusive paragraphs outlying some of the negatives = classic system wars.

[QUOTE="killzowned24"]the game looks the same, even the cars are still glued to the ground with no physis like the 1st.:lol:killzowned24

vehivle physics are what games are all about.

How's HAZE treating you?

what? so blowing up a car like cod4 or Resistance looks dumb?...get real, cars glued to the ground look dumb.

Who said something about CoD4 or Resistance?

Wanna try that one again? My point was that worrying about car physics in this game completely sidesteps the premise or purpose of the gameplay in it.

Then again, your purpose was to denigrate Gears of War for any possible reason. So of all reasons, you chose...cars. :|

Enjoy Resistance man. Enjoy Call of Duty 4. I sure do.

And never forget that Gears of War outscored them both. And there's nothing you can do to change it.

Gears is the type of game that's interesting once, and if it isn't different the second time,it's no longer as good.
