[QUOTE="cobrax75"]isnt this the guy that said Halo Wars will be better than Starcraft 2?Kez1984

Halo Wars seems fresh

About as fresh as 1995.

Lol yea, how typical, console fanboys think they know everything. A revolutionary RTS is not possible on consoles, simple as that.

PC is dying thread template:

The Size of the PC Gaming Userbase

  • Independant estimates put the PC gaming userbase at 263 million globally.
  • NVIDIA predicts there are 180 million gamers using their GPUs (which excludes gamers using ATI, their rival)
  • The number of GPUs sold in Q1 2007 dwarfs what consoles generally sell in an entire year.
  • Historically, the most popular GPUs sold are GPUs from between $150-$250 dollars, not workstation use or ultra cheap.

The Quality and Success of PC games

  • The most AAAE and AAEs this generation, starting from the launch of the 360 in 2005.
  • The past few months have dispelled the misconception PC games don't sell.
  • Crysis sold (EDIT) at least 1 million, despite doom and gloom publicity at launch.
  • The Witcher sold 1 million.
  • Sins of A Solar Empire Sold 1 million.
  • All these games achieved these results recently, with virtually no established fanbase, advertising or large marketing campaigns (for the Witcher and Sins, it was their developer's first game).
  • 10 million World of Warcraft users, 15 million Steam users

The changing nature of PC gaming

  • PC games are most popular with children.
  • The PC is pioneering the Digital Distribution market, shifting a sizeable amount of its sales there.

Even though that is a great post, where does it say Crysis broke 3 million in the link. It honestly just seems to be a rumor that was started here.

Hmm, you might be right. All I did to find most of this stuff was a Google search.

I guess we still have to consider it around 1 millionish.

The PC has been dying for the last 18 years, and it's still continuously dying. It will continue to die 'til the next century as well, and once we have flown to Alpha Centauri, it will still be in the process of dying.

Company of Heroes ported to consoles?

:|

The fast-pace of the game combined with the huge amount of commands you have to output all the time is too... insane for a imprecise controller.

Also, I doubt Relic is going to want to risk being the first dev to port a deep, management-heavy RTS to a system which only possesses shallow ones at best, in terms of RTS games. (CnC 3, UaW, BFME2 = not exactly the deepest RTS games around)

He didn't say it was dying. He said it was changing. And that PC exclusives are becoming increasingly rare. Everything he said was correct.

PC gaming is changing, but its a pipe dream if he thinks that PC exclusives are becomming rarer. Heck, we have the most announced exclusives and highly rated titles. We have FIVE TIMES more AAes than the 360. (Since release only) and the most AAAe titles as well. Jeff needs a reality check.

OK, I'll explain better. PC exclusives are becoming very genre specific. Most PC exclusives are Strategy games, MMOs and FPS's. And PC exclusive FPS's are becoming more rare. I don't have any statistics, but if you compare the statistics in your sig for this gen, to this time into previous generations, I suspect there will be a bigger gap between PC and consoles.

Ironically enough, out of the all the AAAE's PC has the widest range of genres so far, even over the Xbox ... so I think your wrong there, check Nerdmans spreadsheet.

Well, it really might be true, but then again, US is the weakest gaming market, so it's not surprising, really.

Um, they didn't say that you idiot. They said PC-exclusives are no longer beneficial to PC developers, citing Crytek as an example.

You fanboys always take people's words out of context.

I never understood why Halo 3 was so popular. I've played all 3, and yes, they're all good games. But they aren't THAT good. The only reason so many people play it is there aren't all that many good 360 FPS's out there.

I listend to that Podcast. They never said PC gaming was "dying". Did they? I think Jeff and Ryan do much prefer playing games on the consoles.

All this talk about PC gaming dying is so stupid. If i had a decent gaming computer i would love to be playing crysis, bioshock and some other stuff. But even if there was a multiplatform game out for console and pc i would choose console. Mainly because all my friends play on consoles etc.

260+ million gamers.

Most highly rated titles and exclusives.

Brings in more money than any console and it's not close.

How come people try to say the most profitable platform and the most popular platform is dying? I don't get it.

Those staements are completely untrue. I don't even thin there is A PC game in the top 5 on Gamerankings. Oh yeah, 260 million plus gamers, yeah right. That is maybe the number of time their Mom's have asked them to move out of the basement. Or it could be the number of girls that they have not slept with , but not the amount of gamers.

You do realize that Jeff Gertsman is a console fanboy. He's never been a fan of PC gaming, so your point is moot.

With that said. Giant Bomb is nothing more then a blog site made by two people who got fired.

That's like going:

Doctor: I have some bad news.
Person: What is it doctor?

This whole thing is dumb. PC dying? No it is not.

To all PC owners... We get it. PC will always have better graphics, framerate and all that stuff. But who cares. For me: That stuff gets outweighed by the fact that i dont have the money to by a half decent gaming PC, all my friends play COD4 on the PS3 and i prefer sitting in a comfy chair in front of a 50 inch HD tv.

[QUOTE="elektrixxx"]It's not the PC gaming itself that is dying, it's just the sales due to piracy. Sure, piracy itself may mean there are less PC games out there (or at least exclusives) but I'm sure there's a mountain of people out there playin' COD4 on the PC.
CherryShooter

yes, cod4 is one of PC's biggest games and more people in XBL play it. Hermits are just jealous saying it sucks and everything because they are sad that it beat out stupid-strike.

Actually, as I play consoles more, I would inform you that COD4 is a game with one of the easiest difficulty curves I have ever played. Games like BF2 are far more tactical, especially when not just in infantry matches.

Playing low resolution games on a large HDTV isn't all it's cracked up to be. A 30 inch monitor 40 centimetres away from your head playing games at resolutions higher than 1080 is more satisfying. Also note that consoles don't have stalker.

When a Nintendo console has more variety than PC, yes it is dying. *in a grandpa voice* Back in the good ol' DOS days of years past, the PC had the most diverse range of games period. The PC was the ONLY place to get FPS, Sierra provided hundreds of excellent adventure games (which, on all systems are nearly extinct), had plenty of platformers (Jazz Jackrabbit, Commander Keen, Duke Nukem 1 and 2, etc), a good amount of RPG's, thousands of simulators (from planes to tanks to cars), and lots of space shooters (including the master and commander of all, Tyrian). Pretty much every genre you can think of is on the PC. In the Win98 era we had some of the BEST RPG's and RTS's like starcraft and Diablo. Not only that, every single game on the PC was exclusive. Now, When I walk into wal-mart and go into their PC games section, 90% of what is there are FPS (most of which have a console counterpart), RTS, and MMO garbage. Yes, it is never going to completely die, but it is a mere shadow of its former self.

Yeah nintendo variety, right... If I wanted to play the best multiplatforme games, Nintendo is really no were to be find. To tell you the truth i'm tired of some old mario, metroid and zelda. Same caracteres from 80's... and that's not even counting the milkage of many games with mario and compagnie.

Well PC is still pretty much the only place to get traditional adventure games, and i dont see alot of FPS RTS and MMO's on nintendo consoles, PC still has alot of simulators from flight to commerce/management, good selection of racers and non american sport and sport management games, rpg's in general have been a little slow in making it out this gen (other than jrpg's on DS). I don't see where Nintendo has a diversity advantage really, I mean PC is even scooping fighting, action and action adventure games from the consoles like SFIV, Assassins Creed and DMC 4.

[QUOTE="CherryShooter"]I listened to their podcast and they say that PC gaming is dying, you hermits are over your head in denial but thankfully giantbomb is giving the message to you up straight. :lol:VladTheImpaler

Wrong, go look them up. PCGA and DFC if you need to know where they come from.

Stop posting on subjects in which you have zero knowledge about, it's annoying having to prove people like you wrong time and time again.

Using Walmart as your 'evidence' of the selection of PC games = HUGE FAILURE.

One more thing, PC has the widest variety of games, there's not really anything that's even close to it.

Good thing then, seeing as Nintendo console doesn't have more variety it means PC gaming is far from dying :)

For the the people complaining out there I would actually listen to the podcast. The GiantBomb crew delivers both criticisms and supporting comments for PC gaming.

Here's some knocks I heard Ryan Davis say about PC gaming.

Setup costs: True, it's going to be more then buying a console

Installing games: He complained about this a lot, but MGS4 requires an 8 minute install, this is pretty quick though compared to most PC game installs.

Windows Live for game sucks: agreed, good idea bad implementation

The crew also talked about piracy, this is a huge problem with PC gaming, there's a lot of people doing it.

Supporting comments.

Steam is driving PC gaming: I agree, it may be the last stronghold for PC gaming, thank you Valve!

Still the best for MMO's and RTS's: agree, yet like Jeff said in time these game will become more common on consoles.

So there you have it, there is no "PC gaming sucks!", its a good conversation between 4 of the greatest former Gamespot editors and now owners of there own gaming website company.

1. Set up costs are alot better now than a few years back

2. Installs don't take that long and has the tradeoff of faster loading (not just levels but textures etc, see GeoW)

3. GFWL is a bad idea with worse implementation

4. Piracy is a problem but it gets blown out of proportion, and is much more rampant for music, film and TV

5. yea steam is very good

6. Still best for FPS too (esp multiplayer, faster pace, higher player count)

As an avid PC gamer and lover pc gamer is slowly dying, not to say it can't be revived, but Piracy is making it near unprofitable. It ain't right, as PC has the best games IMO, especially in the RTS and FPS category.

I agree, however I would blame this on consoles getting alittle closer technology wise and the xbrick trying to be a pc. It's also having an effect on our games, oblivion, rainbow 6, bio-shock, all dumbed down, UnrealTournament III was rubbish, because of multiplat the graphics are being limited also, I mean, look at project origin, in some screen-shots, F.E.A.R a 3 year old game looks better. If RTS catches on, you can bet your hats the pc will start getting more simplified games to appeal to the mainstream. I don't think it is as bad as people make out though, pc gaming really cant "die" it can take bumps and change, but it's not a dreamcast.

Crytek is switching to consoles? Proof enough?

They never did switch :|

They have console IPs in development and said that when they announced Crysis.

Crysis Warhead is a new pc exclusive from Crytek.

Crytek =/= the pc gaming industry anyway.

So in many instances no your example isnt even correct, let alone proof at all.
