If they weren't making much money on the PC they would have switch completly to consoles, but they are just switching to multiplatform so they could generate more income.

Kudos.
Not only did you use an anecdote to try and portray a global trend, you chose an anecdote which doesn't support your argument.
Crysis: Warhead is a PC exclusive. And Crytek never suggested they were shifting to consoles, they implied their new IPs might not be PC exclusive.

Wow, just calm down...
Seriously chill with that. Why is everyone so determined to say PC games are "dead" if you hate them don't buy them but I'm content with Crysis, WiC etc :D
Im content with stealing your exclusives, while you get our console ports. crysis? Halo 3 is better universally it's rated higher, GTA4 is rater higher then ANY PC game, Halo Wars.
you dont know the meaning of content unless you get a console.
Iwould rather play GTAIV and Halo 3 on PC with mods and FREE online and real controls.[QUOTE="insanejedi"][QUOTE="skrat_01"][QUOTE="Lonelynight"][QUOTE="falconclan"]As an avid PC gamer and lover pc gamer is slowly dying, not to say it can't be revived, but Piracy is making it near unprofitable. They never did switch :|They have console IPs in development and said that when they announced Crysis.
Crysis Warhead is a new pc exclusive from Crytek.
Crytek =/= the pc gaming industry anyway.
So in many instances no your example isnt even correct, let alone proof at all.
Counterpoints.1. Sins of a Solar Empire achieved million-seller status despite being a first game, an RTS (considered a niche genre), little publicity...and having no copy protection whatsoever.
2. Capcom must be having an interest in the PC with releases of DMC4 and Lost Planet to PC (and Street Fighter 4 pending). Not only that, they've signed up to distribute games via Steam.

Really? That's awsome.
And that was known since 2006, ever since Crytek sent the word out they were hiring PS3 programmers (and had already retained 360 programmers for a previous game). Crytek themselves said that CryEngine 2 was portable to consoles--though they never said just how well the consoles could run it.Kudos.

If you actually listened to the podcast, you'd know it was Ryan, not Jeff leveling most of the critisism, and Brad and Vinnie were sort of pushing back against it. They never said it was going to die, they just said it's in a tight spot right now.Ye Ryan was the one embarassing himself, Jeff seemed indifferent and Vinnie/Brad were arguing against him. Ryan doesn't play PC games and shouldn't be commenting tbh, he actually said "Company of Heroes could easily be done on a 360" I mean thats just moronic, Brad luckily set him straight but it just shows how little he knows about pc gaming. I usally like their show (except the sports drinks parts) but I rolled my eyes during Ryan's rant so many times it was unreal. If you don't play PC games, don't comment on them...leave it to people who ya know...have a clue.

The horror!
It's not the PC gaming itself that is dying, it's just the sales due to piracy. Sure, piracy itself may mean there are less PC games out there (or at least exclusives) but I'm sure there's a mountain of people out there playin' COD4 on the PC.

Retail sales are definitely on a down swing in the US, but people need to realize that the PC gaming platform has always been niche in it's form, at least compared to consoles, which are mass market. What's slowing down in retail is picking up in digital distro for the most part, and in Europe and Asia the PC seems to be on top of all platforms.
What's infuriating is hearing from people about PC Gaming dying when they aren't even PC Gamers to begin with. It's just a ridiculous beaten to death horse at this point. Bottom line, great games are still coming out in great numbers for the PC now and into the foreseeable future, period. Also, console gamers should want a healthy PC Gaming market to begin with, it plows the way forward. Even though it takes a bit more to be a PC gamer, there are plenty of us willing to keep advancing gaming technology forward that will eventually drive console technology. It should be a perfect synergy, but this community is so fractured with fanboys, kids, and ignorance, it's no wonder everyone is jumping on the hate train.

Consoles is where the money is at; unless you plan on making a MMO. EuroMafia
in most cases PC is where the money is at for developers, on consoles devs are screwed , it's publishers who get all the money.

It's all over the net (this is just one link). Try googling "Capcom Steam".Capcom is basically forced to do these PC ports because they are part of some PC gaming alliance thing, and probably like DMC 3, Resident Evil 4, Onimusha 3, and Lost Planet. These are going to be pretty clumsy ports considering their track record.
Crysis Warhead will be the LAST PC exclusive that they do. After this they are strictly going multi-platform, and they are doing this because they are getting burned by pirates.
Anyways, Stardock games sell and make profit by aiming at the extreame nich market and basically just catering to them. Notice they dont have any advertising for their game, no shelf space in stores, their usually in the back rooms of gamestop or something. And by going extreamly minimal they get huge profits. However that tactic usually comes at the cost of any new gamers coming to that genre. Basically their just getting the people that know exactly what their getting when they go into a gamestore, not the dude that doesin't go to Gamespot or whatever waking into the store wanting a new game.

Actually, they said franchise, one of them also commented in saying crysis would never go to the consoles if i remember correctly.
Street Fighter 4 will likely be a nice exception since it was PC-developed from the start (due to the arcade hardware--essentially a PC).Capcom is basically forced to do these PC ports because they are part of some PC gaming alliance thing, and probably like DMC 3, Resident Evil 4, Onimusha 3, and Lost Planet. 1) Capcom CHOSE to join the PC Gaming Alliance, they was forced to do nothing...
2) No, Crysis Warhead is not confirmed as the last, as far as we are all aware that the Crysis Franchise is the LAST exclusive, not this one game.

Right, because Crytek's games on consoles will be any diffrent. How exacly is it any diffrent situatuion anyway? Capcom moves to PC, Crytek moves to consoles. If Crytek's move signalizes the troubles behind PCgaming then Capcom increasingly heavy support for PC signalizes troubles with console market
They are talking about the industry as a whole. Most development firms don't see the money in PC gaming exclusivity. They see two next gen consoles with room to grow and quickly growing user bases. Signs are pointing to no on that one. Have you read the news on Kotaku and Gamespot lately? It seems that many PC devs are having massive layoffs and changing tracks to develop for 360 and PS3. Maybe small firms will develop for PC to avoid paying publishing costs. Bigger companies will stay clear of PC for it isn't where the cash is.

What about the pitable 60,000 copies of Boom Blox that were sold? That was a big game for the wii, and it was a dead flop because it was muscled out by Nintendo's big guns: SSBM and Wii Fit.
Believe me, as games like Halo and Call of Duty get more popular, people will buy more of those and ignore those which don't have the same hype or marketing campaigns.
On the other hand, an unknown developer can release his game on services like Steam

except this year there have been more console devs going bancrupt than PC ones. And the only PC one that was closed down died after they switched from PC-only development to multiplatform one.All signs point to console market quickly becoming lethal to any developer, there is a reason why almost every console developer either went bancrupt already or was bought by some publisher. And it will only get worse, next gen you will propably need 2-3 mln copies of game sold just to break even.
