And you honestly think God of War is flawless? Because there isn't a single con listed in there. They love Zelda and Mario, they think it's a 10. Some people don't think they're great. Others think they're shit. These are opinions and you can't call someone out for having an opinion no matter how much you disagree with it.

Scores are the definitive way in which we rank the quality of video games except all the time where they aren't. Scores are extremely important!... Except when I don't agree with them, then they are bias and opinionated when they should be objective because they conform to my tastes - er I mean... objective standards... ;)

Or, alternatively, scores are just broken down, high level versions of opinions and it doesn't matter if you disagree. God of War is a 10/10 game if it resonates with you in all the places that matter to you as an individual living, breathing and existing on this earth.

So, what do we have in gameplay department? Climbing, check. Solving light puzzles, check. Long walks meanwhile two characters conversing, check. So basically the same repeated gameplay as Last of Us and Uncharted. So what is different? Narrative, drama based on exploring the relationship between father and son. But wait, didn't we explore relationship of father-daughter in Last of Us. Or brother-brother relationship plus marital issues in Uncharted 4. So much for IGN's "we have never had such a fusion of gameplay and narrative".

@deeph Again, you have a different opinion, that's all you've been doing. It's fine to have different tastes, nobody likes all the same things which is normal. You're basically arguing there is an industry-wide bias towards Nintendo games. You know what it's called when big corporations and people team up behind the shadows for nefarious or deceitful purposes? It's called a conspiracy. This is simply a case of a bunch of opinionated people thinking something is nigh perfect when you don't think it is. I have some friends at work who swear BOTW is by far the best game they've ever played and is near flawless. Surprisingly some people DO think this game deserves a 10. The problem comes from you being unable to grasp that others may just love the game that much which honestly shouldn't be that hard to understand.

Oh you mean that battle mechanic that they copied from Witcher 3 ? Dodge, attack, parry thing. That has never be done before. But it has a respawning ax. So basically it's a third person shooter too.

I think for those concerned about the Gamespot review score or any biases in the medium; They should put less stock in game reviews (especially scores) and look forward to the game regardless. Put all your energy into something positive and look at the situation as it stands, God of War is a game that you get to play soon that you're more than likely going to love.

They seems to have wrap a cinematic game in a full on action rpg with a modern wide linear level design. You could finish the game and not have the entire map unlocked. Places you have missed with enemies and bosses you have never fought. Side missions you have not done. Perhaps even fight with a different character build style second time around. Seems like its a movie as they say in SW but someone must have told what if you also make a game ass game. I don't know those are the vibes I'm getting from reviews seems surprising but maybe they were on to something when they were saying 30+ hours. The ign reviewer says hes going back to do those optional stuff because they are all there after the game is completed. Of course this is not on the level of BOTW though.

@calvincfb: well to be fair GOW just like all of Sony’s first party games. They are Trend followers not trend setters. Which isn’t really that bad cause they take good things that work from other games. But they are very far from original or innovative.

@xxyetixx: most games are not innovative, and being innovative doesn't matter, what matters is making things work.

GOW made an excellent job at fusing combat, exploration, story, character development and polishing. How many devs do that? Not many.

@deeph A review is by its very nature biased. Our very own @Ghost4ever here is biased towards FPS. Others are biased towards RPG's. The Nintendo "bias" is just like any other kind of bias which may as well be irrelevant because if everyone is biased towards something, why single out Nintendo?

"Professional reviewers" this gave me a chuckle. These guys are simply regular Joes who have a big enough platform to be heard by other regular Joes. They don't have a Ph.D in game review lol.

Literally any kind of discussion thread on other websites would have plenty of people talking about the worries they have with BotW before release. The game press's job is to hype up games and produce things that'll attract website traffic. People in general would rather talk about what they're excited for with the game rather than the perceived negatives.

IMO, use websites for news. Use forums and such for a more critical look at various things with whatever game. Users are more likely to catch those things because we can freely talk to each other and we want to discuss this stuff.

So then if everyone is biased, what's the point of bringing out the Nintendo bias in particular? The Nintendo bias isn't any more prevalent than any other which is what you're implying. If the Nintendo bias is as prevalent as any other, what more harm does it do to the point of singling out?

IDK, I loved the GoW trilogy on PS2/3, I even loved the PSP titles, Ascension was fine too. But I'm just not sold on this one.

For starters I'm sick of gaming's sudden need to have me babysit kids. I'm also just overall disappointed with how toned down everything looks compared to the older games, oh and don't get me started on just how stupid Kratos looks with that damn beard.

It doesn't help that is really does look like yet another movie-game from Sony. If you like that great, but God of War was one of the few PS IP's that focused on real gameplay instead, and to see that gone in favour of making it be like every other 1st party release they have honestly makes me feel sad.

@ivangrozny: I think what they are getting at is take narrative style of those games but fuse it on an action rpg game. So tactical action combat check. Character and weapon stats build check. Strong exploration for loot check. Side quests check. etc... That is the vibes I'm getting.

Im not implying. Im straight out saying it is more prevalent. The reason I bring it up is because someone brought up Nintendos two 97 games as if thats any way to indicate the quality of games.

I don’t care about a different or similar story lines or arch of a game. I care about the game play and there is no point in playing the same thing over and over and over when we’ve already played that type of game when it came out was fresh and innovative the first time around.

Take Quantum Break for example, I didn’t need to play that game I’ve played Max Payne.

Why do I have to provide evidence when nobody is even trying to hide their abnormal love for Nintendo? Watch some podcasts.

Some people are still in here crying being jealous and salty over another great PS4 exclusive LOL. The reviews are great and comparing it to other great games is irrelevant. Both Sony and Nintendo have critically acclaimed games while Xbox One has none that are exclusive. At this point it does not matter what anyone thinks. The game is great, it will sell millions, fanboys will keep hating and I (like millions of others) can't wait to play it.
