[QUOTE="Makari"][QUOTE="mangas"]Thanks for sharing your knowledge... And you can do those things in Forza? Forza's difficulty does not translate into realism, but hey, opinions aren't meant to be right or wrong.Makari

Actually, yeah, I can. If you flip around what you say, it's pretty true - Forza's realism translates into difficulty. When someone says that GT is closer to reality on driving physics than Forza, you can usually assume that they're either a fanboy, haven't played Forza much, and/or have never tracked a car. So far that's been a good bet to be able to make.

As I said, I can't say an opinion is wrong. Yours is just different from mine. My opinion about GT5 is formed by the way the bmw Z4 handles on a track, I have one in real life, and IMO it is as close to real as it gets.

oh.. and forza didn't bother putting the z-cars in, did they?

To be honest, I don't know... I tend to drive only the "dream machines" in games, but since my experience with this particular car in GT5p is so close to reality and based on real life driving, I cannot imagine that "OMG teh forza 2 handling pwnz GT5"

uh, I said it, and I'm not a fanboy, have played both series and have been racing for many many years. This is why you should never assume, and you would lose that bet.

I'd be so far up from winning bets on the rest of the fanboys that post on this that the very few of you that are educated on the subject would hardly make a dent in my winnings. :D Between you and mazdero (props for being informed to both of you, though!), that's two people in this thread, and you're both well aware that most of the people doing the talking haven't even paid for their own first car yet.

Its fairly close

I think that if you were to subtract pure fanboy votes and leave just the "educated posts" (people that have genuinly spent alot of time with both game series) forza would come out on top.

As people were talking about how much GT5 will sell, I thought about this poll I did.

As over 40% of people went with forza, do you think this will reflect in the GT5 sales? In the past GT had pretty much nothingin competition, so all car fans would just buy it withot question.

I think what's going to affect it even more is simple install base. GT no longer enjoys a 100+ million userbase. The Wii has garned the most users and the PS3 trails even the 360. Since Forza and GT are both exclusive on their respective platforms, I don't see how Forza could NOT eat into GT's previous sales as several past GT purchasers have likely moved to the 360.

GT is an absolute joke when it comes to realism, or features, all it has for it is its big car roster and number of tracks, and niether does it do well with paper physics and 2D backgrounds.

Are you implying Forza is better when it comes to physics? It's more arcade like than any Sim out there, all it has going for it is the customization.

I can understand why Gt is so popular but this thread is full of GT fans that have never spent any time with either Forza game (if any at all) claiming GT has more realistic physics :| I can't talk about the PS3 demo but if we are going on GT4 compared to FM2 that is a joke in all honesty.

Dammit I hate thread revival

Forza 2 just came out (in 2006) and GT5 is due in late 2009/early 2010 I think forza 3 will be out by 2009.

He may not be fully aware of the amount of programming involved in the games, but most people would tell you that they prefered GT because the physics felt spot on. Forza may have advanced physics, but that doesn't mean anything if most people don't 'feel' it. I sure don't.

Forza feels Arcade-like, it has that look like it's trying to be cool and new and hip. While Gran Turismo just reeks of pure professionalism when it comes to racing, and I like that better then the former.

This takes denial, guilt transference, and revisionist history to unprecendented heights - or lows depending on how you look at it. The GT fans are so incapable of bearing the reality of the situation, they have to try to shift the blame to the competitor to be able to feel good about their title. "No no, it's not our title that lacks any collision physics, it's them, yeah it's them, we're still number one". They base their assessments of GT on a standard that's 13 years out of date, living in the past, not the present.

Sorry, but NO, Forza is the far more sim racing experience than GT, and absolutely NO amount of your propoganda will change that. At least not until Polyphony finally pulls themselves out of their 13 year old formula.

The GT series!!! Try sitting in a nice chair or a racing seat while using a steering wheel. OMG...I could never have played GT series with a pad...the game just is'nt the same. I mean...try hooking your pad up to your car and then race....GOOD LUCK!!! Arcade games are fun in the short run...but.....if you want realism and a game you can play for a long time, there just is'nt any competition.

I am a GT fan and the way I see it, neither developer has done anything wrong, it's just Forza fanboys decided that there is some kind of rule that a game cannot be a sim if it does not have damage, which is a lie. In other words the problem is closer to home than you think.

Well I'm not going to get into another debate about which is more realistic but to say Forza 2 is arcade-like is just wrong. And come on, most people? I highly doubt it's "most". I don't debate semantics or personal opinions. I debate the facts and the fact of the matter is, Forza 2 is a very realistic racing sim.

gt is the only ''game'' actually its not a game but a real life simulatorthat comes close to how people brake, gas, hadnbrake, steer, make a turn, spin, drag etc in real life

in short if you wanna have fun race win the race you take forza..

if you wanna have a feel how a real ife car react you take GT...

legalize3
those who say that GT is the series that is closer to a sim really need to ACTUALLY drive a car in real life. GT's physics and handling are an absolute joke and calling that series a sim racer is a bigger insult to those of us who actually have had time with real cars. I'm not even saying that Forza is a full blown sim racer, but it's FAR closer in EVERY aspect that matters in terms of how cars handle and behave in diverse environments.

What GT does well, it does very well. But it just doesn't move the series forward. When i stuck prologue in it looked great, it even races well, but I couldn't help feeling that I had ben here before....five times.

GT5 has been in development now for soo long time now and I am almost certain now that they are probably spending that time in the wrong area.

I thought Forza 2 felt a bit rushed - it seemed like forza 1, but the 360 version, but even in that short space of time they still managed to add some cool new additions that I don't believe were in the original, like the auction house.

Yeah, they don't change a whole lot from game to game, but GT5p is very different in the handling and physics. I can understand you don't feel that using a pad, but using a steering wheel changes everything. And what most people don't realize is that there is a lot you can change in the difficulty settings, steering wheel settings and so on. When changing to those cheap tires the car suddenly feel a lot more realistic.

I find physics one of those things that people can argue about, but at the end of the day don't know what they are saying. There are just too many variables for anyone to even try say that one is more accurate than the other. My car is in the GT games and even I can't say if its accurate to real life or not. As games, they are both very good though.

My problem with GT is that they don't address the most basic issues - issues that started in GT1 - the competition feels like it is on rails. The don't interact with you, you don't really feel like you are racing against them. They just end up feeling like something that is in your way. Bumper car physics add to this 10 fold.

It needs a damage/crash engine. It doesn't need to be cosmetic, it just needs to make crashing a bad thing. the competition need to know this as well. They need to be aware of you and avoid hitting you.

the title for this thread is totally dumb it says Gran Turismo 5's Forza (big roman numeral V) that was misleading. anyways, Gran Turismo 5 can't be touched by Forza, although Forza 3 will be excellent (and i played the hell out of Forza 1 on xbox), just GT5 will blow it away. Just look at the major support it gets! It even has Top Gear on board! Thats huge man.

Please, before piping up on issues like this, do some research first...

He may not be fully aware of the amount of programming involved in the games, but most people would tell you that they prefered GT because the physics felt spot on. Forza may have advanced physics, but that doesn't mean anything if most people don't 'feel' it. I sure don't.

Well i am fine with that. It is realistic, I never said it wasn't.

Forza is better imo. I own GT3, and played a lot of GT4, and Forza 2 beats them. Mainly, the customisation, the physics, the damage and the AI. I don't know how people can think bumper cars following their own line and ignoring you beats Forza....

Forza 2 is this generation, GT3/4 is PS2 era. It's logical that forza 2 is the better game for now when you compare them, this campirson has always been stupid cause we still don't have a true next gen GT, comparing modern games to last gen games isn't really fair. And for the record Poliphony is EXTREMELY talented, they put soul in the GT series, GT5 will be an amazing game.
