Now this is a question for people who have ACTUALLY played the game. It's been half a year now. And a lot of us have been wowed and disapointed in Killzone 2 But for those who have playd it, do you think guerilla achieved what it was trying to reach? As far as Graphics/Gameplay go?

They should have, given the amount of money and time they were given. I for one was really impressed with the look and sound and I enjoyed the gameplay which to me felt more realistic than any other shooter I've played.

i still play it online occasionally. Im not sure what exactly guerillas goals were, but if they were to create the best console shooter out there or a console graphics king, id say they failed on both accounts.

Best looking console game right now, and it's a very competent FPS, so I'd say yes. It's incredibly fun online.

What exactly was their goal? :S

To release a game that receives good reviews? I think they did that.

Killzone 2 is a AAA title and I'm sure they like that. Whether the hype of sales got into their head or not, I am not sure. Killzone 2 didn't burst in sales like hyped, so I suppose it fails there.

It's a solid game which I occassionally play online.

The game turned out to be a great and fun game and it owned all the haters who predicted that a sequel to a flop would be a flop. It's not the game of the gen but it is a great game in it's own right.

I think just a good well rounded FPS was what their goal was. And It was great I really enjoy it and hope there is a killzone 3.

Well, it's not like they could really make a game worse than the first Killzone. I think they did reach their goal.

It's a great game, I still play it.

It's going to be a building block franchise for them, which takes time.

If their goal was to make a solid game, I must say they've done it. I don't think anyone expected good scores after seeing the first game do terrible.

I'd say yes, it's sold over a million copies, is the current console graphic king and is a AAA title.

It succeeded in some areas but not in others.

Gameplay and graphics wise its a very good game. And the online is brilliant.

Though the story could have been better, its an epic game which needed more epic characters really, and whilst the onlne is as good as COD4, maybe better, I find myself playing COD4 online more often.

Yeah, Killzone 2 was meant for failure with Killzone 1's score. I guess people forgot about Killzone (PSP) which indicated GG's was doing good.

Though I agree with you on the story, I do feel FPS is the genre that gets away easiest with a crappy story. Whether that's a good thing is a different discussion.

I thought they delivered a great conventional shooter overall.

Now if they could bring something else to the table with KZ3 or whatever they want to work on.

I mean imagine that powerful engine with tropical island setting, or another sci-fi setting like in Mass Effect, that'd awesome.

Or places like the Vekta ship.

I'm not sure what the pre-defined "goal" for the game was. All I know is that I still enjoy it. Resistance is still higher on my pecking order mind you, but KZ2's installment has insured that it will remain as one of the few FPSs I'll invest in.

As far as "goals" go, I felt they met their target-render's standards as far as gameplay and atmosphere is concerned.

Its true and imo is pretty sad. I mean a good story can make a game so much better. Its what sorts the 10/10 games from the 9/10 games for me. The thing is thoguh it had the makings of a great story. If you search the story of KZ on wiki theres a lot there to use, for one the ISA for me seemed to eb the real evil ones, not the helghast and thats so obvious when you find out the real story. But it got forgotten...

Not much to complain about.

  • AI was really good , difficulty was tuned pretty well
  • Shooting was fun , lots of great weapons - Boltgun , Electricity gun , Flamethrower , Sniper rifle , etc.
  • Beautifulgame , good setting , and cool looking enemies to kill
  • It sounded great , music was good too
  • Great cover system , I'd like to see more shooters adopt something similar
  • Multiplayer is good

Every game has its faultsand omissions , but overall I think they did really well. With the tech and exprience gained , I'm looking forward to Killzone 3 while still enjoying this one.

True, I also enjoy a good story in any game; really adds to the experience. That's why Bioshock and System Shock are my faavo FPS's.

That would be amazing, I want to see the KZ2 engine on brighter worlds, I want to see how they would do it with trees and rocks, vegetation, they should do something like that.

or going inside a volcano mountain, I want to experience new settings.

This engine should be exploited :D

KZ2 is a great game and it did reach its goal which was being graphically impressive (for a console game), have solid gameplay, an interesting story and great online.. It did deliver on all aspects..

However GG should now focus a bit more on its story in sequels, as others said the KZ universe/story is intriguing and there is so much more to it than just 2 sides fighting eachother..

At being an above average shooter, yes, it succeeded.

At being a showpiece for graphical fidelity and animation. Yes.

At being a blockbuster hit. No. In its current state, it's not a bankable franchise. It's building, that's for sure, but KZ2 just isn't there yet.

At becoming the definitive shooter on the platform. No. It has a ways to go yet before it can be the iconic title synonymous with the PS3 brand.

Honestly, I did enjoy Killzone 2. I played multiplayer for a little while, it wasnt really difficult, and I really didnt like the controls. For me, the game is just any other FPS with a fancy coat of paint. The story was meh, the gameplay was meh, and the controls were meh. I think that without those fancy graphics youve got just any other mediocre shooter like FEAR 2, Timeshift, Quake 4 whatever. Id much rather play any Valve game, halo 3, call of duty, battlefield, or gears. Its still a good game, but like I said without the fancy graphics youve got one generic shooter on your hands.

I think so, i read somewhere this engine is going to be used in other games, I don't really remember though if that was about the uncharted 2 engine or KZ2 engine but I think Sony parties share alot of tech.

In the god of war 3 trailer, the sky looks somehow the same as in KZ2 so I think they learned to do that from GG.

look at the first moments in the trailer.

And once uncharted 2 comes out, Killzone 2 will be a faded memory. Uncharted 2 has everything Killzone 2 has and more (yes I know theyre not both FPS's but theyre still shooters with MP) and I strongly believe it will be a better game in every category.

I have to admit though the consoles are very similar. The in house devs with PS3 know how to work it.

Dangit well I'm in a bit of a hurry, I have work in a little bit but in short yes they did. The single player campaign was a heck of a lot of fun, one of the few FPSs that I've enjoyed and the multiplayer even though starts off slow is addictive and extremely fun.

It's a AAA title plain and simple.

I have only played the demo in fairness. gameplay? sure. they made a more enjoyable game. i dont think they were even trying to make a revolution in FPSs...just a fun and intense run and gun FPS. job done in that department. graphics? well if they were aiming for that CGI seen in 06....then no.....no they didnt. however that was a "target render". the game isnt a million miles off and i think the dev certainly achieved the goal of making the PS3 flex its muscle and show off a bit. personally i dont like the art direction....but thats just me. for what they were aiming for in art direction, i think they nailed it.

i think they made the best FPS this gen so far. i alos think the payoff wasnt worth it in sales when you think about how much time and money went into it.

Te money that went in also was a strategic choice by Sony. Guerilla was mandated to check out what the PS3 hardware is capable of and received funding accordingly.

One can probably say, they're goal was to beat HALO 3, in every department especially in the wow department which HALO combat evolved got when it was released on the original Xbox, sony wanted to turn the tables and dumped millions of dollars on a group of 150 team members, sony's plan din't go to well, I doubt they'll dump money into killzone 3, enjoy it cows the series ain't gonna get any better than this.

Considering what Guerilla had to achieve with Killzone2 to make the media and the haters happy I think they succeeded.

Sony won't need to "dump" much money on Killzone 3 development. The money went into creating a new engine. --- Killzone 2 is the best looking game on consoles and it comes with amazing gameplay. Very few genre innovations, but the entire package is AAA no doubt.

sony's goal was to beat HALO, it was evident with killzone 1 how they said it was going to be a HALO killer, I must admitt guerilla din't say that, but sony wanted it to be the HALO killer, hence they pumped millions of dollars into this 4 year project of 150 developers, is it not evident ?
