I totally agree. I cannot see how anyone but sci-fi nerds can think Halo 3 has an even remotely redeemable story. The campaign was so bad that I literally had zero motivation to finish it and I probably wouldn't have if not for the hidden skulls to unlock the Hyabusa armor. The campaign's gameplay is great and action-packed, don't get me wrong, but if there's one thing I can't stand, it's a story in which the main character is completely flat, devoid of emotion or depth, also lacking any sort of character development throughout the entire series. The entirestory is full of weak points. There are no compelling characters, the enemies have almost no depth to them, and the general setting is horribly unoriginal.
And NO, don't tell me to read the goddamn novels. I've read them and they do add depth to the story, but when it comes to judging a game's story, I base it on its own merits, not those of a novel, which requires a good story.
[QUOTE="Verge_6"][QUOTE="Ninja-Vox"]I think it's awesome. The only level on the game which was any less than fantastic was Cortana.skrat_01
EVERY game has that one level that is just nightmare-inducing. Half Life 2 had Sandtrap, HL:E2 had the Strider defense level, the previous Halos had the libraries, Bioshock had the park level, GRAW had Chapultapec...the list goes on.
The Strider defense level is known for being freaking awesome - one of the best in the HL series :shock:How is it nightmare inducing??!?!?
For me, it was due to those Hunters hitting the explosive device each and EVERY time.
[QUOTE="Bansheesdie"]I loved those two missions, same with Tsavo Highway.the single players best aspect was the story, which was marvelous, and then backed up by good level design. The Ark and The Covenant stand out the most for me.

Tvaso Highway, The Ark, and The Covenant levels were all my personal favorites, including the The Storm. Can't say I agree about the story being marvelous though.
halo 3's story sucks because its the last one and it leaves the same amount of doors open (if not more) and closed.
what do u know about mastercheif? is he human, alien? is it a male or femal? how old is IT?
YES.... you play as "him" the whole game but hes as lifeless as a peice of cardboardd, bearing no characteristic traits. which makes the storyline downright boring. i have the game and multiplayer barely keeps being fun until the 3rd or 4rth game until i want to blow my brains out with 12 gauge. everyones entitled to their own opinion. IMO

I loved every level except Cartana. *sigh* I feel like playing it all over again for the 8th time.
I have one more complaint about Halo 3 and thats Legendary, its not hard but its difficulty is not very well scalled. Example: Your this 1000lb genetically enhanced, warthog flipping, 20 foot jumping super soldier yet you die in one shot from the jackles? Its hard in areas that SHOULD be a cake walk. It felt out of place and repetion is not a great way to make a game challenging in the sense that you die many times before you complete a checkpoint. Heroic is the perfect setting and provides the perfect balance of bodily damage and enemy smarts and inflicting damage upon you.
I found the SP to be good, story is garbage compared to other stories(I don't care about the books or about any of that other crap). The mp though... I hated it and that was supposed to be the best part of the game. I guess that's what PC gaming does, you hate all FPS Mps on console.
And I hated the levels where you had to get that woman. Those were SO Annoying. Poor design imo.

actually i own it. and FYI i have a little yellow post-it on it that says retired. im NOT KIDDING.i refuse to trade it because of the amount of money i would lose and its just not worth it. i went through the story nearly 3 times already once for the uninterupted story, twice for the skulls (found all) and 1 more time on legendary with some friends but didnt finish though (not interested in picking up where i left off.

Okay. I personally loved the gameplay. The plot had major potential but ended up being a huge let down. Good thing people don't play FPS games for plot -- they have great gameplay to keep the player going. If Halo 3 were SP only, I'd have given it an 8.5. If it had Single Player, Co-Op, and online co-op with 4 people but no versus, I'd had given it a 9.0. With MP it's a 9.5.

Yeah, that was wierd. Something that bothered me when playing Halo 2 on Outskirts. But something that really irriated me was that the enemy A.I. would use equipment that would be completely useless like the regenerator. Even though the bubble shied is useful to them, they get out, and never go back in, even when they're close to it while I'm firing at them. And the radar jammer was very useless for you since it did nothing to distract or confuse the enemy.

Omg.... for some reason, I can't even be bothered to finish with HL2. Shouldn't have played the other two installments before straight moving onto that one -winces-.
One thing that really sticks out like a sore thumb for me are the level designs. Damn are they extremely artificial. It's HL's bread and butter, and although they make for interesting things, it's just so ridiculous.
I think Valve needs to hire Adam Foster. His work on Minerva is absolutely amazing.

I play the Half Life games for their story. :P Halo 3 had good potential for an amazing story but the plots were completely obvious. A good example was that everyone thought Cortona was infected, it turned out she was okay the whole time. Nothing was new in the story, except for the legendary ending.

Not really because in the case of SC if you even if you remove zerg, there are still things that linger around that make the story interesting. I.E the internal conflicts with the terrans, the protoss dealings with the dark templars etc etc.

Halo has one of the most interesting sci fi stories of modern times. It's a refreshing military sci fi romp. If you want me to explain it to you in comparison to science fiction over the years, then just ask.
Oh, and I won't tell you to read the novels. But really, it seems like you haven't at all. It doesn't add depth to the story at all. Epic fail there bud.
Starcraft has an interesting story. Remove flood and halo has another run of the mill super soldier story(Even though that's the current situation even WITH the flood)
That's like suggesting to remove the Zerg from Starcraft and then claiming it's just your run of the mill humans vs aliens RTS.
Really? I suggest you play starcraft and go through the story, it's basically everyone vs zerg but nice try though.
SPOILERS
Humans come into contact with Zerg. Protoss are following Zerg destroying any planet they infest. Run into humans, watch war commence. Xel Naga created protoss and zerg. Zerg Overmind destroys Xel Naga. Black guy from campaign (forgot his name) is most likely a Xel Naga, making a protoss-zerg hybrid. Throw in some Kerrigan and some humans killing themselves, and then some criminals modified to be soldiers and you have Starcraft!
Now remove the Zerg from that. Now we have Xel Naga = Forunners, Protoss = Covenant, and Terran =.... Terran =P Well, not really, but you get the idea.
OMFG... is it actually inconceivable that i really hate the story.... it SUCKSSUCKSSUCKSSKSSUCKSSUCKSSUCKSSUCKSSUCKSSUCKS its just so horriblethe story left me feeling cheated. oh yea how come when you get to the end of a level all of a sudden u are forced to backtrack????? was that because of the limited space on the disc???? what??? i thought making it SUB-HIDEF would free up space but i guess not!!!! please send your FAKEBOY/FANBOY/HATE mail to Adesire4killin on XBL and ill reply with 1 word and 1 word onlymclovin401
You know,
It's also not inconceivable to own a 360 and Halo 3 and be biased against it.

It's inconcievable that you're so blatantly ignorant of even the most basic and trivial matters of the story. You don't even know the Construct's NAME, and it is mentioned repeatedly in the prior games, and in the first two levels, which you claimed to have followed. :|
