[QUOTE="Iantheone"][QUOTE="VoodooHak"]So what you're saying is that it takes 3 whole games and two expansions to beat out a single game. Nice. Thank you for helping prove how awesome Reach is.VoodooHak

If you were to compare Reach SP to HL2, HL2 wins. Compare MP to TF2, TF2 wins. You mad that the OB has 5 games, all better than Reach for the same price (Less now actually)

And yet you're cherry-picking.

HL2 loses in MP, TF2 loses in SP.

Even with your criteria, it's still highly debateable that HL2 wins in SP. It has a great story, yes, but lacks 4 player co-op, a competitive/co-op point system while adding yet another level of replayability with skulls.

TF2 has great basic gameplay to be sure, but it loses in that it lacks the customizabilty of game sessions a ranking system and the level of stat tracking that keep people coming back for more.

HL2 doesn't have co-op? Maybe you should open steam and search for Synergy? Yes, it's a mod which allows players do join a server like any other and play through the story together, being limited only by the server cap.

TF2 lacks ustomizability? Guess all of those unlockable items are just there for nothing.

It also has achievements and stat tracking, yes the type that keeps people coming back for more.

Also, MP games on PC aren't limited to the gametypes and maps created by the developers. We have a modding community for that.

It's a shame this is going to cause hate because it's actually a plausible opinion. It's Halo and it's probably the best one. But there are other great ones as well.

It's my favorite game of all time but yet it's undeniable that the story itself is pretty crap. It's the story telling that is amazing.

Secondly Co-op is more multi than anything.

True. TF2 doesn't really have a ranking system or stat tracking like Halo. It doesn't need it. The gameplay is so good people come back just for that. I assure you if Halo didn't have all that ranking/commendments/challenges/etc, a lot of people would stop after a while. And Forge doesn't even compare to map making on TF2.

Omg quit it with the TF2 is the bestzz!!1 remarks. I hear nothing of the game out side of these forums. It's so overrated by SW'ers On topic, I agree. It's a complete polished and tremendously epic package

I hear a lot more about TF2 and CS in the real world than Halo as far as MP is concerned.

You could say it has co-op, but it won't be near as refined as in halo reach.

Seriously, people that make this claim most likely never played Killzone 2 or Resistance 2 because those games have better graphics, bigger online (16 vs 16 and 30 vs 30), they're darker and grittier, have better AI, better story, etc. I swear that Halo is like the Justin Bieber of FPS. I tried to play Halo 3 and I hadn't even played other said games and still thought it was terrible. I have a 360 and the only FPS I have is L4D. Halo is bad but that's just my opinion.

I found it to be boring, the story was boring, the shooting wasn't as good as other FPS at the time (though granted it was old).sts106mat

The shooting is just about the weakest part of HL2. The physics, level design, and storytelling were all way ahead of their time and are still very impressive today.

[QUOTE="campzor"]..oh do tellEggimannd

Both require aiming and dodging simultaneously... both require more hits to earn a kill meaning a noob cant kill an experienced player just because he managed to get the drop on them... and both require controlling and timing powerup respawns.

counterstrike... you point your gun at a corner and wait for someone to walk around.... very much like modern warfare 2.

Ya... CS is a little more than that. I might agree with Quake and UT taking more skill but CS takes more skill than Halo. That's for sure.

This part made me lol.

i knew while i was playing it that it would be dated, and in fairness it did feel it, i stopped playing because of the lack of excitement. sorry i dont mean to offend anyone. same thing with metro 2033, i did finish it, before i found it quite boring and a bit of a drag, definitely not fun.sts106mat
Half Life is a brand of shooter that is very different to the more traditional 'run and gun' field of game design. Doom/Quake/Halo/COD etc, which is why I'd say people tend to find it un-exiting. Not to say it isn't exactly a rare breed, Metro as you pointed out, Bioshock, STALKER; even Crysis's sandbox gameplay offer a completely different experience to the much more structured paced combat of the others. HL2 is essentially almost made up of meta-games, which keeps it varied and interesting.. something rare in shooters. Pity the Episodes did nothing to really put a twist on that (aside from Ep2's finale).

i have to say that i think reach is incredible, cant say for sure about best FPS, certainly the most fun for a long time. i dont get all this orange box stuff though. I didn't play the original half-life so i probably was missing something when i played the orange box on 360, but when i played it, I found it to be boring, the story was boring, the shooting wasn't as good as other FPS at the time (though granted it was old). TF2, i thought was fun for an hour or so, but nothing that kept me wanting to play. the community wasn't huge either. and as for Portal, well that was worth the price of the orange box alone. i do think Orange box is good value, but over-rated if your not into the series (probably like many peoples opinion of halo). sts106mat
You were playing it on a console valve games should be played on PC

Portal was fantastic on 360, I've got Still Alive. I'm not a huge fan of HL2....I've played it on Xbox 1, PC, Xbox 360 and PC again and never finished it.

Its a great FPS but theres been better tbh Halo 1 was the one that is the best from an innovation and wow for its time POV and its still better than most shooters released nowadays im not joking CE on the PC is a strong game and could go toe to toe with the likes of MW2,TF2.

Personally i think Unreal Tourney 04 is probably the best it was simplistic yet deep, there was an endless supply of things to do and mutators could rapidly change a gametype from a mundane cap the point to a balls out evil game where you snooze you loose. No FPS from a multiplayer standpoints come that close but Halo 1 and CoD4 werent far behind it.

I'd say that has more to do with your personal taste than with any inherent flaw of the game. To me, it does not feel dated at all. The gunplay and AI might be a bit crappy, but the same could be said for CoD single player. I had tons of fun in Half-Life 2 (bar the later levels in City 17, whichI felt were too action-oriented) and Metro 2033, yet I couldn't even bring myself to finish Halo: Combat Evolved back in the day. If anything, that just says something about what kind of FPS we prefer rather than the quality of the respective games.

Of course I played HL2. On PC when it first came out and again on the 360 in Orange Box. Feel free to check my gamertag history.

I just don't consider it a strength of the game itself that it requires user-created mods to match the features that Reach has.

Like I said, it's less a strength of the game itself and more the nature of the platform. It's not something I'm going to give Valve credit for. On the flipside of that, the features I mentioned are in Reach right out of the box.

but that is the nature of the platform and its games...for the users to enhance the experience...its always been like that and thats what valve probably expect aswell. Its easy to praise reach for having all these features right out of the box, but when playing a pc game..u are expected to try out all the mods and enhancements out and its not even that hard or take that long to do it either.

I agree with all of these thoughts on The Orange Box. I got it on PS3 and the only thing I really loved on there was Portal, what a fantastic, albeit short, game. HL2 had some really creepy moments, but all in all I found the game mostly boring, so I didn't finish it and never played the episodes.

I think when people are talking about TF2, they are referring to the PC version, as the console versions aren't very popular and never got some key updates.
