[QUOTE="crimsonsabre"]

last time i saw it was about 100 on a catalogue.

anyways, here's the current price:

http://www.ebgames.com.au/search?title=xbox+live

there's no need to be bitter about that.

crimsonsabre

So wait. You don't even have XBL? Then what the hell are you complaining about? The same goes for all of the PS3 fanboys endlessly griping about it; What the hell do you care?

you're complaining about sony overpricing their hardware."What the hell do you care?"
my answer is probably the same as yours.;)

No, your answer is not the same. I happen to own a PS3 and a Bravia television. When I'm critical of something, I, at least have the decency to have had some experience with it. It's a pretty big difference.

[QUOTE="musicalmac"][QUOTE="Locutus_Picard"] Paying $10 more for a service that's already stretching it at $50 yearly, for features not everyone uses and for features you need an additional subscription fee for, while the $10 price hike is not explained and what features they'lll be adding is also unknown... ...is INDEED overreacting.

I've never been more amazed and disappointed in SW before. That thread tops all others. I wonder why you're not being told to stay on topic...

I was going to stay on topic untill GameSpot decided to mess up my post. $50 a yearly (inb4youcanfinditcheaper) accumulates, however you bring it (84 cents a month or whatever), to a whopping $250. You MUST factore that in for next-gen. Am I going to buy a cheap nextbox720 but with stealth expenses like XBL, propiatary hardware galore and break-downs every 6 months? Or am I going to buy a little more expensive but reliable PS4 that has a full range of options I can save money on, like the accessoiries and free online? TOUGH decision man! And I excluded the games from my comparison since I don't want to give Sony anymore advantage then they already have.

this is the most logical response.

PC's get a better service for free and so does PS3 and Wii.

So are you arguing that paying for a quality service is not bad?

Well then this thread doesn't apply to you. It specifically addresses 360 owners. You couldn't have stayed on topic if you'd tried.

Why are you ignoring the fact that you can get it cheaper and then still complaining about a 250 dollar price point that can be completely circumvented by a simple Google search?

The fact that you say "inb4youcanfinditcheaper" Clearly shows that your entire argument is completely disingenuous.

Like I said earlier, why do you care? You are clearly in the Sony camp and have no intention on getting a 360. This is ok, just spare us the fake indignation.

Because we use official pricing on almost EVERYTHING here on SW but when it comes to XBL-subs we must use the lowest prices available? Well whatever, consider me gone from this topic.

Im coming from this as a PC gamer, laughing a people trying to bash each others sytems and jsut pointing out the faults. TC is bashingon Live when he has paid for a system that cant run games past 720p. He is trying to bas on people "OMG 250 DOLLARS AHAHAHAAAA" assuming that everyone that has a 360 has had live for 5 years. real smart huh?

heretrix

Ah well yeah, I got your point now :D But it still doesen't change the fact that Xbox Live Gold is a ripoff... The 600$ price tag of the launch PS3 was just a fluke on the part of Sony.

Sony ALWAYS overprices their hardware. In all of their divisions.

No it hasn't, if they would, they wouldn't have been loosing money for the Playstation 3 for 4-5 years... The Playstation 3 when it was made was worth alot more then what they were wanting for it (Blu Ray, Home Console, Wi-Fi, Card reader etc.) Sony was just dumb to put all of that in the console. They could have just sold the PS3 for 300-400$ without the Blu-Ray and nobody would be complaining.

And they wouldn't have won the format war (that was the reason the BR player was put in the first place).

all in all, if people enjoy xbl and paying for it, then good for you.

my pc, ps3 and wii are way enough for me.

i recently bought a 360 just so i could play halo 3. i really wanted to try halo 3 online because i loved playing the first one online(on pc).
but i was put off paying for an expensive wireless adapter and for online.

in the future if the 360 lowers in price or the online becomes cheaper (through sales) then i'll be inclined to try out xbl.

crimsonsabre

If you just recently bought it, why didn't you buy a slim? It comes with a wireless adapter built in.

I'm not against people getting involved that really care about a certain subject. What I object to is people getting involved in something and have ulteriormotives behind what they are doing. Such as the rampant gloating that's going on. Gloat if you will but spare me the BS indignation. Just be honest dammit.

Who knows... But its almost certain the PS3 would be in a way better position then it is right now. The problem was that very few actualy wanted both a PS3 and a Blu-Ray player. People that wanted a Blu-Ray player only, got a dedicated one for like 400$, and people that wanted a HD console got a 360 for 300-400$. Only a few people actualy went and chipped out the 600$ for both. Atleast thats my theory.

the discount cards are available ALL THE TIME. You can't get more official than that. The bottom line is it is very easy to skirt the "official" sub price. The point is you can get a sub of up to 50 percent of pretty much any time you wanted, why would that be ignored?

How do people feel about paying thousands of dollars every few years for cable TV?

heretrix

i dunno. but that doesn't relate to system wars or this thread.

i would game on xbl if it was cheaper. its $100 bucks over here in Australia and that's a complete rip.
i'll stick to my pc, ps3 and wii.

XBL is a subscription service, So is cable TV. Does anyone add up the total amount of money over the course of a few years of paying for cable?

Probably. but in the long run if you want cable that's what you'll do. Or you'll be busting out the antenna and rocking good ol OTA TV.

But what if you could get all the same channels/ hd channels like your cable company aswell as a channel guide all for free? Also cable companys aren't locking anything that I have already purchased.

PS3 is not as good service as Live though, having never used Live you would not know this. but playing online with a group of friends is a real ball ache on PSN with out any cross game communication or party chat. PC ok il give you that although i still think communication on live is better on the 360 due to being able to have voice and in game sound split between headset and speakers something i have never managed to be able to do on the PC

Maybe people motives are that they don't like the idea of people having to pay for something that is already part of a purchase. Heck it could be that someone motive is a purchase of a 360 but aren't going to cause of the added expense. And it is a added expense.

Try ventrilo on pc. Also I rarely if any time at all except some titles have issues meeting up with friends on psn. I send a invite or accept a invite, or use a follow feature. How again does xbl do this that is better or any different than psn that is worth $60 a year for?

i would game on xbl if it was cheaper. its $100 bucks over here in Australia and that's a complete rip.
i'll stick to my pc, ps3 and wii.

GreyFoXX4

XBL is a subscription service, So is cable TV. Does anyone add up the total amount of money over the course of a few years of paying for cable?

Probably. but in the long run if you want cable that's what you'll do. Or you'll be busting out the antenna and rocking good ol OTA TV.

But what if you could get all the same channels/ hd channels like your cable company aswell as a channel guide all for free? Also cable companys aren't locking anything that I have already purchased.

I think thats the point, you don't get all that stuff for free, you just get the bare minimum.

But PSN isnt the same. anyone who uses both knows that PSN is just not as good. once PSN has parity with live then you have complete ownage until then you have a service that i not as good.

[QUOTE="heretrix"]No, your answer is not the same. I happen to own a PS3 and a Bravia television. When I'm critical of something, I, at least have the decency to have had some experience with it. It's a pretty big difference.

heretrix

The world would be a very bad place if people didn't get involved just because something didn't directly effect them. We see something wrong, we fight back. That's the basis of a kind caring human being. Why are you against that?

I'm not against people getting involved that really care about a certain subject. What I object to is people getting involved in something and have ulteriormotives behind what they are doing. Such as the rampant gloating that's going on. Gloat if you will but spare me the BS indignation. Just be honest dammit.

The gloating is ugly but it's caused by the ones blindly defending things that shouldn't be defended. I understand what you mean though.

i've paid zero cents playing online on pc and ps3.

GreyFoXX4

PS3 is not as good service as Live though, having never used Live you would not know this. but laying online with a group of friends is a real ball ache on PSN. PC ok il give you that although i still think communication on live is better on the 360 due to being able to have voice and in game sound split between headset and speakers something i have never managed to be able to do on the PC

Try ventrilo on pc. Also I rarely if any time at all except some titles have issues meeting up with friends on psn. I send a invite or accept a invite, or use a follow feature. How again does xbl do this that is better or any different than psn that is worth $60 a year for?

i just start a party send a bunch of invites all my friends join no matter what they are playing or watching we can all then chat and comunicate until we are ready to play the game at no point are we take out of that party. for me and the group of friends then play most evenings yeah its well worth it. we even use it when we play on PS3 and just switch TV inputs.

I do that a lot also. And I have a PS3 mic.

In the UK it works out to like 8p a day for me that like 15c or something, the price is nothing less than a phone call im ok with it to tell you the truth, me and my partner have family in australia and its good to chat on the weekend while playing Left for Dead or Gears of War, or just watching a film or what ever so it well worth it.

On a side note if you shop around for 12 month live cards you can get them a lot cheaper, I get mine roughly 25% cheaper than on the high street with a month free so 13 months.

Of course I would like more for my money who wouldn't but thats the way things go.

AS a PS3 Fanboy (I'll admit it, unlike many of you, who are too immature to admit it), I'll try to say this from an unbiased as I can get. Yes, XBL is better as its had more time to grow, but the $60 dollar difference in prices easily makes up for the gap there. Personally, I think PSN is gainng ground on XBL, but thats an opinion I guess (possibly fact if you want)

It's annoying. The price increase made it more annoying. The 360 does offer a better overall service though. If they switched online play to silver and gave away 400MS points($5) a month to use as you wish within that month and added that to Gold I would still pay for gold.

[QUOTE="AiurProtoss"]How does it feel to play your games in sub-HD to 720p with little to no AA and had to dish out 600 dollars for your system??ItsBriskBaby
Do you know how stupid you sound? PS3 has many games that are not sub 720p and they have plenty of AA titles and I certainly did not dish out $600, I paid $300, but I only bought one system unlike lemmings who bought more then one.

By AA he meant anti-aliasing which has to do with graphics.

Yep I bought more than one system. I bought a 360 and a PS3. I've never had to pay to have a 360 fixed due to its superior warranty(albeit forced on MS due to lawsuits) and the day MS tells me I am out of warranty and asks me for $99 to have one fixed is probably the day I don't have a 360 anymore.

People going out and buying a new 360 becasue they cant live without a game console for 2 weeks when they can get their broken one fixed for free is their fault. Not MSs or anyone elses.

Microsofts warranty was forced on them by law suits? um no...There hasn't been a single successful lawsuit against microsoft over the 360, there hasn't been a single lawsuit that made it past a preliminary.
