You have only 1GB RAM, thats your problem right there :P get 2x 1 GB sticks and make it 3GB, you will be maxing those games easily ... but right now ... with only 1GB ram, your system wont play much at all within the last 3 years well.
3GB slaughters everything... and its easy to put in yourself.
Until you do that, your PC is not even "capable".
[QUOTE="Newsboy"][QUOTE="shsonline"][QUOTE="TrailorParkBoy"][QUOTE="shsonline"][QUOTE="Franko_3"][QUOTE="shsonline"]So recently I upgraded my PC to a "capable" current gen gaming PC. GeForce 8800, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HD, Athlon dual core, etc. etc. I decided to get the games that I thought would be most appealing to a longtime console gamer.
My experience was mixed. I enjoyed the multiplayer aspect of SC, but did not enjoy the lack of communication between me and the other competitors. I enjoyed the graphics, but was by no means blown away by either games visuals on medium settings. I have played these games for a total of 11 days. Since then I have decided that PC gaming is not for me. I have gone back to playing COD4 and DMC4 on my 360. I'm sorry but I don't understand the appeal of PC games, and I don't know if its just me or if PC gaming is missing something. My 2 year old son would come around and watch as I played 360, but he doesn't do that with PC. My best friend thinks I'm going to become a nerd soon. Does anybody else who has TRIED to get into PC gaming felt like this?
shsonline
I don't actually believe you played a pc game
Its not my job to try to convince you. You sound like a Wii supporter. Its possible to actually try something new and not like it.
There is a difference between trying some thing new, and well buying a brand new computer. So what happened exactly, were you one day playing your 360, then suddenly realize that you wanted to blow God knows how much on a new computer just to play Sup com and now your telling us Sup com isn't the game for you? Did you ever try PC gaming before you bought this expensive computer, or was this all out of the blue because I find it unlikely you decided to spend all that money with out first trying Sup com to begin with. It's called a Tax Return. And I really didn't spend that much. The graphics card was 75 on newegg. I got the Gateway with the processor and OS for 600 through Geeks.com (refurb) and the rest I already had from my old PC.
You got an 8800 for $75? Get outta here!Ebay.
Okay, so let me come clean with a couple of things. I lied about the 8800 and the new egg thing. And yes i added a gig on the RAM count so you guys would say Noob or whatever because you hermits are very critical of your specs. So I thought I would pad them a tad to fit in. But that's your fault not mine for creating that kind of peer pressure.shsonlineIf you had told the truth from the begining we wouldn't have jumped on you. We can easily tell when someone is lying or not.

That still doesn't change the fact that I didn't get into the games that I had gotten. Yes it could have run more optimal with some more RAM but the occasional slowdown I had had nothing to do with my lackluster experience playing the games.

Better graphics and a smoother/faster framerate can do wonders for the experience you can get. Try playing Crysis on low settings, and then on Very High settings. I bet you'll be more immersed and have more fun playing crysis on Very High.I used to be hardcore PC gamer, but since '05 switched to the 360, it has a lot of the things I loved about the PC minus the things I hated about having a PC (upgrading costs for a little more draw distace and nicer textures).
But I will never deny this, my true love for PC is the Mod community and I will always go back to it for games like Oblvion, NWN, etc. But right now I love my LIVE friends, and it gets lonely on the PC compared to my 360.

I SWEAR I have the full Witcher game. Okay I have to come clean about something else. I've only played the demo of SC. But I didn't like it. I've tried to FORCE myself to get into Witcher. It's like a Baldur's gate clone if you ask me. I haven't got far into it but if you ask me a question about some of the nuances of the early part of the game I'll do my best to anser. I'm at the point in the game where I'm with Leo in the cathedral mowing down tons of enemies. It's not even real combat to me because it is so easy you don't even have to rely on stringing attacks together. We're hunting down the sorcerer guy and his frightling or whatever.
[You should try other games dude. How about FPS's? You can try single player FPS's. Have you tried RTS's? Those can very fun. Have you tried flight simulator type games? Have you tried MMORPG's? There are many things to try on the PC. Don't give it up just yet, especailly when your hardware is taking a lot of the experience away.I SWEAR I have the full Witcher game. I don't understand why you are playing on medium settings with the graphic card you have. Of course medium settings with those games won't be as impressive as max settings with AA and AF on. And judging by you description of your gaming experience on PC, I hardly doubt you know what AA and AF is and how to enable them. This is the best guide I can find for you: http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/video/fw90.html
In some games AA and AF can be enabled in game, while some you must force it via control panel. You didn't say what model your Athlon X2 cpu was, so I'm going to give you a guess of what levels of AA and AF you can run without dropping the FPS significantly. Try 4x AA and 4x AF settings. If its smooth, move AF to 8x and if thats smooth move it to 16x AF which is max.
Now about the games you tried. To make it simple PC gaming is vastly different than console gaming. I don't expect your 2 year old son to be fascinated with PC gaming since it requires a individual with a long attention span instead of a individual who has a very short attention span. Children have short attention spans and are attracted to things that stimulate that their short attention. Witcher is a PC type rpg, which is a lot different from console rpgs like FF, DQ and so forth. And requires you to actually appreciate the depth to like the game. You may or may not appreciate this type of depth so it might not be your thing. The same as with SC, this is why you don't see these type of games come to consoles since console players are very different from PC ones. Personally, I think you are better off with a console(no disrespect intended) since the games tend to suit you better. And by no means does a console ever and I mean ever have better graphics than a PC game unless: The port was crappy or you aren't running max settings(with AA and AF turned one).
Hope this helps you.

wow you are forever lying. Basically all your arguements about your "attempt" to get into PC gaming is BS. Especially your arguement about the community not talking in SC.....you dont even own the game and I highly doubt you have the witcher(probably just played the demo if even that). Now tell me, what was your point in making this thread when you haven't even gamed on the PC(even if you did play the witcher that is 1 game)? You are full of crap if you ask me.

You aren't even past the prologue. There are 5 chapters plus the epilogue. The game is probably 100hrs+ if you do everything. Like I wrote in my initial reply, I don't believe you have the attention span required to sit down and play PC games. You are probably 20mins within a 100hr+ game and you are already stating you don't like it.

You only have one game! Are you jokeing! How on earth can you only play one game and throw it all away. I'm sure there was atleast one 360 game you didn't like. Did you stop playing your 360? No. Read reviews, find games you like. There is something for everyone.
LAWL, the guy says he didn't enjoy PC as much as console and the jealous Hermits tear him a new one. Talk about insecure the hermits are.wok7This guy doesn't even play PC games. Don't you have some HD games to play? Why do you still post here? You're like the laughing stock of SW's/

your not even past the tutorial level of the Witcher and you are complaining about it?
And, you said you played the MP in SupCom and there wasn't any communication... The Demo doesn't have MP... You have screwed up too many times. Just leave.
Its not my fault the witcher is not engaging enough that I'm still in the tutorial stage. I didn't know that.
Your not even past the tutorial! What on earth is wrong with you. Do you not have a attention span past 5 secounds? So you played 10 minuets on one games and decide you don't like PC gaming. Is this thread going anywhere.
Just leave the thread TC. You have lied too much for anyone to believe you. Your story is full of holes that don't make sense. Get out of here, just go and don't reply to anyone here.
karasill
Cool. I'm going to play some XBOX360!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS. Just kidding. Seriously I am TRYING to get into PC gaming but the games that are popular don't tickle my fancy. Anyway, lighten up guys. Way to scare away a n00b from PC gaming.

listen... PC games take some time to get into. The Witcher is THE best RPG of 2007, better than even Mass Effect. The game is 120+ hours long and once you get deeper into it everything starts clicking. The combat takes time to get used to but it is great. With the different stances, different weapons, etc. it is a really deep combat system that requires strategy. Not only that but later on, THEN the moral choices enter into the game. Choices that make a real difference.
Still, you have already been exposed as a fakeboy. Too many inconsistancies between your posts.

Yes, he has the attention span of a fish. Which is why console games suit him better.

Ah, another post from Wok7. Making sig worthy quotes post after post. Keep it up man and something you say may just end up as my sig. At least being a idiot is great for something here.

Maybe if you weren't a bold face liar ;)It would be easier if you guys didn't act so cocky about PC gaming and snub your noses up at newcomers. I blame myself partially for lying, but not completely.

Yeah, I've been phishing for a good sig from him too, but regretably, Wok7 is not what he used to be anymore :( There are no more instant c l a s s i c s like "PC not doing HD", I guess there really is a limit to a human stupidity...

But I came with good intentions. To see what really is the hype about with PC gaming. I can get any game I want on PC. But its an issue of WANT. There aren't many games that I find myself WANTING on PC and that's the problem. So maybe its just that I don't know what games to look for and that's what I needed help with.

Now why didn't we start out with that? You like CoD4 so maybe some FPS games are for you. Could trying counter-strike? Thats a popular game. Orange Box would be the thing to get if you like FPS games.
