[QUOTE="Redgarl"][QUOTE="MadExponent"]All I can tell you is that some of my friends that play console games are absolutely blown away when they play my PC. They are in the worst kind of envy. Course I have a very very nice machine, but their delight is through the roof.MadExponent

You know that if you use a 32 bits OS, you are limited to 4gig of memory over all your hardware?

Thats why I have been using Vista x64 Ultimate. It is FARRRRRR superior in every way to the 32-bit version. I have no clue why more people aren't using it.

What does Ultimate offer that Home Premium doesnt thats fun/interesting for home use? just out of curiosity.

I heard you could use Videos as Desktop backrounds? I dont know much else however.

My CPU and motherboard both FULLY support EM64T. I have no clue where you are trying to go with this. Jesus.MadExponent

orly. care to link that the board supports it? not even Abit says it does.

i'm honestly just curious - i can find no information supporting your argument. no need to insult - i'm not the one claiming to be teeming with knowledge of all things PC.

The Witcher is defeantly an aquired taste for more hardcore RPG fans. I didn't really enjoy it as much.

You have to try a few other games before you just give up on it. Games like Sins of a Solar Empire, Medieval 2 Total War, Crysis, Company of Heroes, and mmos like WoW really show that the PC is in a league of its own. They are so much more deep and involved than any console game. Ontop of that, console games like CoD 4 that are on the PC work even better and are a much more enjoyable experiance.

The PC isn't perfect. It really doesn't have that nice relaxing feeling you get playing a causal console game. Though it makes it up with its amazing ability to suck you in until the wee hours of the morning.

There is more network security functionality as well as some neat encryption tools. I got my copy because I am MCSE certified and I get all new MS software for free when I beta test for them. There isn't a whole lot more in Ultimate, but somehow I enventually find use out of it.

there is encryption - but no differences in network security functionality.

i mean the encryption does make things safer - but it requires a bitlocker mobo. but you said 'as well as'. there are no additional network security features that i'm aware of, and i beta test for MS too :D

like i said, i just base things on what you post. you posted some lies in another thread - or some 'misunderstandings'. no need to get all offended. i don't trust people over the internet generally, especially people that feel the need to boast and brag about certifications and their jobs to try to establish credit / trust. ;)

sorry, you say you beta test for them and you get it free because of your MCSE certification and you were wrong. i apologize for correcting you. but if you try to assert yourself as a self-proclaimed expert and try to bring up certifications and whatnot expect people to scrutinize you - you are in system wars ;)

no need to take offense or make it personal.

I just want to mention just for the record that pretty much every Intel motherboard since the P4 got EM64T support has supported EM64T. When I saw you reply with that I did a double take, but then it was apparent to me that only one of us knew what we were talking about.

i just want to mention for the record that i'm not the self-proclaimed PC expert and don't purport to know everything like you - and that even Abit's official page for the product doesn't mention EM64T :)

misundertandings regarding CUDA implementation of Ageia Physx instruction sets in the thread about the CryTek2 Engine demo from GDC. misunderstandings regarding the proprietary nature of the CryTek2 engine and the difficulty of porting physics code (you said it would take one line to code, lmao). there are other threads too - but it's not a big deal. there are plenty of people who are self-proclaimed experts on these boards that don't fully know what they're talking about. they were mainly conceptual errors anyways, no biggy.

and to be fair those misunderstandings were related to coding and engines, not PC hardware.

either way - sorry for offending, i like to fact check what many people say on these boards - not just yourself. so no need to make it personal, as i've said many times before.

In other thread I even said that I was speculating. That was not lying. I was taking the information already known plus new information just learned, and then I applied what I saw in a video and tried to comment on what I was seeing based on the information known. You blew it out of proportion saying I was lying about some kind of "experimental Aegia" technology. That is not what I was saying at all. I was saying that very very soon nVidia will be releasing Forceware drivers for 8800+ series cards that enable hardware based Aegia physics without a PhysX card. All I was saying is that I thought that it could be possible that Crytek and nVidia could be working on porting the physics to the Aegia engine. Despite what you said about it be proprietary I think it could very easily be done. I have seen MUCH more difficult tasks be accomplished in my lifetime. As far as you saying that Crytek already said that they will never use a third party physics engine like Aegia. That may very well play out and be true, but it is not the end of the world if it comes to pass and they do end up using Aegia. Not that big of a deal. To you it seemed like a big deal. It was almost as if you might be the guy that would be doing the porting of the code and it pissed you off that I brought it up.

I didn't say that it would only take one line of code. I said that they would have to program another codepath for Aegia. It would not be one line. It would more than likely be pretty lengthy infact, but it can be done. If Crytek wants their engine to be the best it can be then they should upgrade it like Epic does to UE3.

let's just bury this. you've obviously taken way too much personal offense to my questioning of your 'supreme' knowledge. you've resorted to insulting me on several different occasions just because i question you and ask for clarification. i never personally attacked you, or even thought about it. and let me add you're not special, i question many people - but actually you are special in one sense, you took it very personally and insulted my intelligence among many other things. and i'm sorry i brought you to that with questions.

i'm just glad i'm not one of your employees. you must be a hard person to deal with professionaly if you lash out at everyone who questions your judgement and views / interpretations. you seem more focussed on protecting your e-reputation than answering people who even preface their questions with 'i'm just curious'.. you throw out your accompishments and qualifications, and lords knows what instead of answering and linking me to the answer i seek. i told you i'm not a master of all things PC - i do however know lots about the graphical end (that's where i work fyi. and i'm not bringing it up to defend myself).

so yeah - i'll just avoid you from now on i guess, sorry for the trouble.

You came at me in a sarcastic manner if that is even possible on the interwebs and you insulted my intelligence on a subject I feel extremely strong in. You came at me in the same way some stupid console fanboy does on some crusade to kill PC gaming. You also caught me at a bad time. I am currently moving to a new house and it is quite stressful right now. I have never spent so much money and time on anything in my life.

any tone you read in to internet text is in YOUR head. i didn't preface with sarcasm, i didn't follow with sarcastic smileys - and i made it blatantly clear i was curious and didn't know a lot about PC hardware.

how am i insulting intelligence by fact checking? someone who values intelligence should support that line of thinking - it's a way of learning new things and trying to sort out the FUD, which there is plenty of in system wars. i said it was nothing personal in the least, i do it to many people - and i'm truly sorry you took it personally.

i appreciate you're going through tough times - but try not to take it out on faceless people on the internet. we have baggage too.

no worries - happens to all of us from time to time.

FYI I'm a PC enthusiast too, not a console fanboy. my system doesn't hold much of a candle to yours, but it does well. Dual Core AMD 64X2, 8800GTX BFG OC (no sli yet too much money - i bought the card when it came out @ 900$CDN), 4g ram OCZ Platinum Vista, Vista x64 Ultimate.

mobo and hd are kinda garbage though right now. had to buy an asus m2nbp-cvsm (business platform) because it was all they had when my last system failed - and haven't had the cash to buy what i want since.

anyways. sorry for coming off like a fanboy. i was honestly just questioning you and was curious about your rig - and if i was right about your board not being compatible it would have helped you out

by the way, your ram is clocked at 1000 isn't it? the board lists as 800 max, do you OC the board or downclock the ram?

My board is not an easy overclock. 680i boards are the devil. My memory is capable of 1000Mhz and that is what I run it at give or take 5Mhz. The board is also very capable of running with the memory @ 1000Mhz just fine. When I bought the board they claimed it could do 1200Mhz if you had memory capable of running at that speed. No go. I went through 4 680i motherboards and 6 kits of memory. The 680i has a history of killing memory and burning out even without being overclocked. Funny thing is that I should be mad, but I'm not. I finally settled on this board after trying all the others. Without watercooling this setup would be unstable as hell and more than likely I wouldn't even be able to keep Windows running for more than 5 minutes. Like I said 680i is the devil. My upgrade to an X48 is more about peace of mind than having the newest and greatest.

My Wife used to do residential and ccommerical loans back in the day, she was miserable all the time. She's now a "struggling" Realtor, but much happier. Being in Real Estate is like being an Artist, ups and downs like crazy.

Good PC talk though, any of you read CPU magazine? One of the best power user mags around ..

Sorry about the slow reply. I was trying to talk to a customer that was not getting good customer service from one of my commercial loan officers. Ugh.MadExponent

heh, i used to have to do that - worked as a call centre manager for a couple years to get me through school. not fun.

well hopefully your new rig gives you more stability. you should look in to the OCZ Vista ram if you're planning on getting new ram with the new rig - I don't know a hell of a lot about it, but i've had good experience with OCZ and it personally gave me a big bump in OS speed (boot up times, click responses, explorer, etc.) and with Crysis it bumped me up over 10fps from my previous ram. I'm not sure what makes it 'vista' ram though *shrugs*.

anyways, i have to head out. good luck with the move - and the new system. i'll keep an eye out in pc hardware when you get it together and can post some benchmarks ;)
