darkguy_101,

What's your point? We know Halo >>>> HL in scores on major sites and on GR/MC. I posted these facts on OP.

"Many game magazines have praised Halo as one of the best and most important games of all time. The game's popularity has led to labels such as "Halo clone" and "Halo killer", applied respectively to games either similar to or anticipated to be better than it."

darkguy_101

My point is that they are pretty much the same. Also, you seem to forget:

GameSpot inducted Half-Life into their "Greatest Games of All Time" list in May 2007. In 2004, GameSpy held a Title Fight, in which readers voted on what they thought was the "greatest game of all time", and Half-Life was the overall winner of the survey. In the November 1999, October 2001, and April 2005 issues of PC Gamer, Half-Life was named "Best Game of All Time"/"Best PC Game Ever." Allgame said "It isn't everyday that you come across a game that totally revolutionizes an entire genre, but Half-Life has done just that." Hot Games commented on the realness of the game, and how the environment "all adds up to a totally immersive gaming experience that makes everything else look quite shoddy in comparison." Gamers Depot found the game engaging, stating that they have "yet to play a more immersive game period."

Guinness World Records awarded Half-Life with the world record for "Best-Selling First-Person Shooter of All Time (PC)" in the Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2008.

..

CoD4 has sold 13M so that is just BS.

And you don't need to post comments from different critics because I know they prasied Half-Life, just like others praised Halo. Gaming Age said "The game most easily comparable would be "Half-Life," but even that just pales to the overall scope and vision of Halo." NGM said "One of the best games you'll ever play. Period." Voodoo X : one of the most engrossing games I've ever played

Half-Life is on consoles and has been reviewed, it scored lower.

And it was good of Ce to score such high since stndards were raised

A massively inferior version of Half Life was on consoles. Why not compare the PC versions? Both games are best on PC, so why not compare the versions that offer the full experience of both games? Oh wait, I know why, because Halo loses and that destroys your entire argument.

Halo is best on consoles and most groundbreaking on consoles. That's why it scored high there. It made FPS controls on consoles perfect and didn't make you sought after a keyboard or mouse, like GS said.

I would say it's very important. It had huge mainstream appeal to the console audience who were starved of good FPS. It sold a lot from lack of options, and many companies tried to clone it so they could make money too. Quality, it's good, but not Half Life or Half Life 2 good.

the original hl is the best shooter ever, but imo halo ce is better then hl2. hl2 had such bad enemy a.i. it's not even funny, it was far too easy, the story sucked, the vehicle play while good is not as good as halo's ect. im probably in the minority here but thats how i feel.

So why don't compare HL's most best version to Halo's most best version? Oh, wait, because you lose then.

I'd like to describe it as one critic did: "Fans of the FPS genre are a finicky bunch. With fierce competition, the PC has always been leaps and bounds above consoles for this type of game... until now."

It was much popular on consoles because it was the only console FPS with actually decent controls, so it was popular by default. M&KB is always better than controller because it's MUCH more accurate and responsive. Halo was much much much better on PC. In no area was it inferior.

It was inferior and terrible and poor in every way.

Most console shooters' controls aren't so good compared to the majroity of PC shooters, but Halo is one of the few games that have excellent controls as a whole.

The controls on the PC version were inferior, in my opinion. Bungie created them in such a way that they were only well-playable on consoles.

You just obviuosly suck at the game.

And Halo's MP being swallow or what you said is your opinion. It's known as one of the best, actually. GS said this, regardless of platform.

SODRChief

You're right, I quit playing because I was so bad I only came in first place in half my games. So terrible. And yes, it is shallow. The game consists of rushes for power weapons, and then the spamming of said power weapons. Compare that to the depth and complexity of Team Fortress 2.

Too bad GS called Halo's MP "one the best multiplayer action experiences available on any platform" and too bad Halo's online MP is one of the most played on the planet.

Halo CE online MP was on PC which makes it the better version yet it scored lower. HMMMM

Review's opinions = facts?

That's strange. Also, as much as I love Halo, the series will never touch the feel and personality that the characters of Half-Life and Half-Life 2 have.

Alyx = a little. But it's be nicer if she'd look more like Megan Fox. Other than that, in my opinion, there wasn't much wrong with her. She was a trustwrothy character that you cared about and so on.

It is best. Best resolution, best controller, better textures, better performance. The screen has nothing to do with it. Why? Because it was released on the xbox, not on PC, and when it was ported to the PC there were more and better shooters out there. Nothing special.

really? I was unaware -_-. I should maybe do more research before running my mouth, however, is there any specific reason it scored lower? Didn't look as good? bad controls? I could understand bad controls because I think it actually requires you to need more stuff bound to keys.

also, I think what the TC was trying to show is that, even though half-life was made 3+ years before halo: combat evolved it barely got outscored. 3 years is a long time.

half-life came out in 98. The PC version of halo came out 5+ years later and scored even worse. that's pretty bad if you ask me. FPS games (IMO) are way better on PC than on console because they aren't as watered down. There's a lot more room for customization and they have bigger learning curves.

Halo did do one thing right though, and that was making the FPS genre easy and watered down enough for everyone to play.

Some-Mist

Half-Life is on consoles and has been reviewed, it scored lower.

And it was good of Ce to score such high since stndards were raised

really? I was unaware -_-. I should maybe do more research before running my mouth, however, is there any specific reason it scored lower? Didn't look as good? bad controls? I could understand bad controls because I think it actually requires you to need more stuff bound to keys.

Because it wasn't groundbreaking, of course. which its earlier may have been..?

I didn't find the HL characters that engrossing. Boring with a main character not saying a word.

I like Halo more than Half-Life but come on, how did you not care for Alyx and Dog?

Dog = no.

Alyx = a little. But it's be nicer if she'd look more like Megan Fox. Other than that, in my opinion, there wasn't much wrong with her. She was a trustwrothy character that you cared about and so on.

SODR, come now. You can't have super models in every game. I don't want to see dirty Alyx threads like there are so often for Zoey from L4D.

You gotta admit though Megan transcends Alyx in every beauty detail.

The fact is that Halo outscored Half-Life on MetaCritic despite having way more reviews.

SODRChief

Really? Because now you are outright lying.

Halo: 83%

Half Life: 96%

Half-Life: 96 with 26 reviews

Halo: 97 with 68 reviews

You're the one lying...

Dude you need to chill, take a deep breath, and stop comparing apples to oranges. I don't think anyone is arguing that Halo was an amazing, outstanding, FPS, FOR consoles. But, General consensus among PC gamers: Halo was mediocre in the PC FPS department. Instead of posting a bunch of opinions, why don't you give us some facts, why do you think Halo changed PC FPS gaming? What did it bring to the table, that hadn't been done before in PC gaming? What if anything made it stand out from all the other PC Shooters? You probably weren't there for the quake 3 arena, unreal tournament, CS, Tribes, etc. days, were you? You were probably stuck playing what, goldeneye, on your N64? My point is this, consoles have great shooters now, that's great, but the idea that Halo somehow had a profound influence on anything other than console gaming, is absolutely ridiculous.

Halo 1 on XBOX is revolutionary, because it was one of the first console shooters to dictate what all console shooters after it would be like. the PC version is mediocore in that sense because the PC already had so many great FPS games to choose from. It's just what system your looking at halo being played on at the time.

Gamespot scores

Halo PC: 9.0

Halo 2 PC: 7.0

Half Life PC: 9.2

Half Life 2 PC: 9.2

Just throwing scores out from gamespot, PC versions of half life scored higher than the PC halos.

WTF? Have you ever heard of this thing called an opinion? Your half arsed quantitative analysis means nothing! Trying to prove something to be fact when it is completely subjective = FAIL!

You may as WELL had tried to prove that chess is a better game than golf. I simply CANNOT think of how these two games DIFFER any more than they already do. Stick to games that are at least SIMILAR in some respect.

the 'critics' scores are all based on opinions too, claiming them as facts is lulz worthy
