IGN reviews blue dragon

it does make sense...whether it was on SW or not alot of people have been hyping this game like it would be some final fantasy killer...until the demo came out that is....blazinpuertoroc

I don't see why this is such a suprise. It's a game with a 10 year old battle system, and childish, shallow characters. Eternal Sonata and Lost Odyssey seem much more promising. I think it was hyped so much becuase people WANTED it to be good, so 360 could have a great JRPG, when the truth is, JRPG's are becoming a really stale genre, and there's a reason they aren't as popular in the US, because they mostly are just not that great a product.

I still think it will get AA because the cinematics and the combat depth will impress fans of the genre, but after the demo, definite no-buy for me.

I distinctly remember people either:

a) hyping this game alone as a FF killer

b) people hyping Lost Odyssey as a FF killer

c) hyping that both a & b together would kill FF.

it's one of the 3. I honestly can't remember which...but it was one of them. their arguing point was primarially that we were getting these games made by the father of the Final Fantasy series itself. And that he'd deliver on a scope and scale commensurate with Final Fantasy.

This was for sure when they were debuting the game in Japan 1.5 years ago or so.

Funny how time makes people forget. Or maybe you just weren't around then. But after Sakaguchi-san's 2 games were announced at the 360 Japanese press conferences, people hyped them against FF. Again, the arguing point being that Sakaguchi-san was the brain behind the best of the FF games...and as such, he would deliver similar greatness in these new IPs.

It is Lost Odyssey that a lot of people(including myself) believe could be a game that could be as great as an experience as those older FF's. I actually still think Im going to enjoy Blue Dragon a lot, because I'm a sucker for classic style JRPG's.

I still expect AA here at GS.

I wonder if certain people here will be prepared to eat a big fat slice of humble pie if it does get AA? Personally I couldn't give a crap about any JRPG but it riles me when I see anyone saying "all of you were hyping this AAA" when they clearly weren't. Especially after the cows backed away from Lair after a year of hyping the damned thing.

I find it amazing how some posters in this thread were telling everyone to not judge Lair by EGM's review (Dualshockin), then they act like Blue Dragon is crap when it gets an outside review or reviews. I expected this though. Afterall, it's a game exclusive to MS's platform.

I am going with 7.5 here. Big flop. Since it was hyped AA generally.
Lost Odyssey will follow the same path. Like said these games only got graphics going for them. Predicting 8.0 for LO at best.

dude hype changes, its like people who are hyping Kilzone 2 as a halo killer based on the one trailer we saw two years ago at e3 and now we know more stuff people dont hype it that much(or at least thats my perception). Same thing with bluedragon premier 1.5 years ago is a long time i dont know remember anyone except maybe Xjet making it sound like a FF killer, but i dont remember him saying that he was just hyped in general about the game.

The general consciences has always been its a good traditional game with traditional jrpg to the core elements nothing earth shattering to say the least...

I loved Final Fantasy 12... I beat it with 72 hours and I still have some hunts and Side Quests to Go do(Not Just some... Mabye another 20+ hours worth)... I think Final Fantasy 12 was the Best so far...
