Have you looked into the game? It sounds like you're expecting a Ninja Gaiden game like the previous two, but that's not what this game delivers.
Cherokee_Jack
From what I got from the review the only thing making it different from other NG games is lower dif and lack of weapons. Everyting els seems like NG.
The combat system seems to have been simplified too.
in what way?

Seems pretty mashy, lots of QTEs. I'm not a NG expert but it didn't look as complex as the other games from what I saw.I would cry...[QUOTE="mitu123"]

This is Ninja Gaiden!!! One of my fav series ever!
Uh... you should have cried in 2008 then, bro.
Ninja Gaiden died when Team Ninja died.
Team Ninja died when Tomonobu Itagaki left.
team ninja died when team ninja left, Itagaki wasn't the only one who left Tecmo
So is this an actual legitimate review from IGN or one of those "we don't like the direction so we will punish it extra hard"? because they have a lot of those as well.
[QUOTE="nintendoboy16"]Looks like the last Team Ninja games that scored well are going to be Metroid: Other M (the most controversial Metroid to date) and DOA: Dimensions if DOA5 blows it next.charizard1605So Team Ninja is good only on Nintendo? :P
[QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"][QUOTE="Elann2008"] Divine? That's such high praise. I wouldn't go that far.getyeryayasoutThe series is pretty divine. Even the soulless Sigma versions are very good action games.I picked up Sigma 1 and 2 a while back and only recently played through 2. Soul less is a fine description, more content, but a piss poor example of what NG is about. Felt like "Baby's first Ninja Gaiden", so dissapointing. I Can't fathom how bad NG3 must be. As for the devinity of NG1 and NG2, in my opinion they both are examples of near perfect gameplay. Sterling, of the highest order, superior. :D
What's wrong with the Sigma games?
Well, you know, comparatively. More to the point, it's the third game in a big franchise.
Cherokee_Jack
When IGN starts giving Assassins Creed, Mass Effect or Halo less than a 9.0 I would be impressed.

What?There's only one weapon :?
If that alone doesn't scream simplified I don't know what does.

Well, too be honest there were no weapon mixing or integration to start with ..... some content has been taken away, that would be better to describe it.
Anyone still saying Team Ninja is fine without Itagaki?

While NG3 seems to be a massive blow in quality compared to other Ninja Gaidens, DoA: Dimensions was actually very good.

Ninja Gaiden 3 is relatively small? No. Even as the least-anticipated game of the series, it's still big.
I wouldn't be impressed if they gave it a 5, but a 3 is usually reserved for shovelware.

This is not a sign that reviews are starting to stick it to the big AAA games if they don't deliver. Mass Effect 3 still got a 9.5 there which really baffles me as it is the worst in the franchise.
That's such a shame because NGB was an amazing game, then NG2 came out and was disappointing, and now it seems the franchise has turned to complete garbage.

Itagaki mentioned that he "ran out of time" when making Ninja Gaiden 2.
The publisher forced him to release the game earlier then Itagaki wanted it to be released...that may have been a contributing factor to his departure.
Holy crap thats bad news. Their staple series was just thrown in a blender.
Wonder if theyll even bother with a 4th game....
I'm still playing Ninja Gaiden on my Xbox... Have never touched NG2 and I'm not surprised with NG3's score.. I'm sad at how low this series has fallen.
I have a very hard time believing it's that bad.
This game would have been in better hands if the reviwer had never played an NG before.
This feels like Rare after the Stamper brothers (founders of Rare, executive producers of all Rare's games and creative driving force of Rare) left the company in 2007.
It's unlikely that Team Ninja will ever recover from their loss of Itagaki and other key development staff members.
Seems the reviewer wasa bit harsh. A 4 out of 10 for graphics but it looks like low res sewage? I'm sure it's still a bad game though.

The fact is, they would likely kill to have Rare's this gen record; 1 AAA and 5 AA's  and so would 95 % of all the devs. :P
That's what happen when you make Ninja Gaiden, a series notoriously known to be brutal, easy. Having a crappy story doesn't help either. LMAO
I honestly agree witht the people in here who say that bomb these games trying to get hits, if gamespot gives NG3 a 5 or something then i will take back what i said but if they give it a pretty high score as well as other sites then IGN will lose its credibility to me.

The Stamper brothers were still there throughout some of this generation.
After they left...Rare started working on Kinect Sports and Kinect Sports: Season 2.
That's a pretty big fall from grace.
CVG: 8.0 - It's less hardcore than previous games, making solo play enjoyable, but the online mode is a misstep. Still, while it's not as accomplished as Bayonetta, it's the best Gaiden yet.
IGN: 3.0 - Ninja Gaiden 3 is a gash on the face of the franchise and one of the worst games the action genre has yet suffered. It has no consideration for its fans' wants or what a new audience may have enjoyed. It's a nightmare that's as easy as it is uninteresting, and it abandons what used to work for awful new ideas that don't work together. Under no circumstance should you ever waste your time on this self-indulgent and abysmal wreck.
OXM UK: 8 - Ninja Gaiden serves up some Hollywood setpieces with a rock-solid combat system. Forgive the hyperactive cameraman and choose the right difficulty, because the wrong one will ruin your game
OXM US: 8.0 - Given the rare and tumultuous circumstances that led to such turnover at Team Ninja, it's fair to wonder what Itagaki's Ninja Gaiden 3 would've been like. Still, this version of Ninja Gaiden 3 - the one created by Yosuke Hayashi and his crew - is what we get, and it deserves praise for being a great way an Xbox action fan can spend $60. It may not live up to the series' impossibly high standards, but it's still a gem in its own right.
Metro: 8/10 - An impressively courageous reboot that channels the hard-edged heart of the series while discarding its more antagonistic baggage.
VideoGamer: 5/10 - You can probably wring out a decent afternoon with Ninja Gaiden 3 providing you're not expecting it to be as good as its predecessors. There are the origins of a fast, exciting new combat system buried underneath all the mess, and the gorgeous animations and zippy takedowns provide an immediate buzz. Yet its problems vastly outweigh its positives, and it's hard to come away feeling anything other than disappointed. This was supposed to be a bold new beginning for the series, but ultimately Ninja Gaiden 3 feels like a false start.
yeah, i'm done with IGN, the game got a 5 at VideoGamer (a site i never heard of) but the other reviews are pretty high up there and i don't understand how a game gets a 3 but 8's from multiple sites. They did this same BS with Silent Hill Down Pour, the give games either a reallly bad score or a really high score. I'm interested in what gamespot gives it but for now, ign really is questionable to me.

KS 2 was made by Big Park and Rare was just overseeing the project. :oRare has been busy as a bee the last 2 years working on the next gen Kameo, Conker & Banjo. :P
And why the frig would they even try to focus on a story!? Yahtzee summed it best in his NG2 review ''You want a story? Demons over there, kill they arse!''... Thats the whole point of Ninja Gaiden's ''story''; You're not supposed to be a mopey, regretful, woe-is-me tormented anti hero. Ryu is a friggen Super Ninja, his narrative is there to inject as many high-octane-demon-ninja-apocalypses that we can handle into us...
Dammit...
