The comments in the IGN section are incredibly sad, and some of the posts here are too. This is what's wrong with video game reviewing - people continually bash a reviewers opinion before playing the game and complaining that their favorite series got a low score. If the reviewer thought it deserved a 3, good for him. I see people constantly complain that reviewers never have the guts to give a big game a low score, but when it actually happens, people go in an outrage.

People cite other review sites, but really, who cares what others thought of the game. It's the same with movie critics. Just because some newspaper/site thought that the movie was great doesn't mean everyone will too. You see a far more widespread, widerange of review scores for movies than you ever do for games, and this is a clear example why.

Hayashi needs to stop making games. Maybe Itgaki's Valhalla Studios will be nice enough to let him keep remaking Itagaki's games. That way he can't screw up this much.

And why the frig would they even try to focus on a story!? Yahtzee summed it best in his NG2 review ''You want a story? Demons over there, kill they arse!''... Thats the whole point of Ninja Gaiden's ''story''; You're not supposed to be a mopey, regretful, woe-is-me tormented anti hero. Ryu is a friggen Super Ninja, his narrative is there to inject as many high-octane-demon-ninja-apocalypses that we can handle into us...

Dammit...

Coyful
The other NG games didn't attempt to have real stories so they weren't a problem. Seems to me the problem is that NG3 does and fails. So if you don't want to be criticized on it then don't try so desperately to insert it into your game.

CVG: 8.0 - It's less hardcore than previous games, making solo play enjoyable, but the online mode is a misstep. Still, while it's not as accomplished as Bayonetta, it's the best Gaiden yet.

IGN: 3.0 - Ninja Gaiden 3 is a gash on the face of the franchise and one of the worst games the action genre has yet suffered. It has no consideration for its fans' wants or what a new audience may have enjoyed. It's a nightmare that's as easy as it is uninteresting, and it abandons what used to work for awful new ideas that don't work together. Under no circumstance should you ever waste your time on this self-indulgent and abysmal wreck.

OXM UK: 8 - Ninja Gaiden serves up some Hollywood setpieces with a rock-solid combat system. Forgive the hyperactive cameraman and choose the right difficulty, because the wrong one will ruin your game

OXM US: 8.0 - Given the rare and tumultuous circumstances that led to such turnover at Team Ninja, it's fair to wonder what Itagaki's Ninja Gaiden 3 would've been like. Still, this version of Ninja Gaiden 3 - the one created by Yosuke Hayashi and his crew - is what we get, and it deserves praise for being a great way an Xbox action fan can spend $60. It may not live up to the series' impossibly high standards, but it's still a gem in its own right.

Metro: 8/10 - An impressively courageous reboot that channels the hard-edged heart of the series while discarding its more antagonistic baggage.

VideoGamer: 5/10 - You can probably wring out a decent afternoon with Ninja Gaiden 3 providing you're not expecting it to be as good as its predecessors. There are the origins of a fast, exciting new combat system buried underneath all the mess, and the gorgeous animations and zippy takedowns provide an immediate buzz. Yet its problems vastly outweigh its positives, and it's hard to come away feeling anything other than disappointed. This was supposed to be a bold new beginning for the series, but ultimately Ninja Gaiden 3 feels like a false start.

yeah, i'm done with IGN, the game got a 5 at VideoGamer (a site i never heard of) but the other reviews are pretty high up there and i don't understand how a game gets a 3 but 8's from multiple sites. They did this same BS with Silent Hill Down Pour, the give games either a reallly bad score or a really high score. I'm interested in what gamespot gives it but for now, ign really is questionable to me.

infinite884

yea I dont know whats with ign. Must be mostly cause of new editors. They seem to be very very harsh.

Where does this belief come from that all scores need to be in some sort of general agreement?

I was expecting it to be a watered down departure from the series, but 3/10? I doubt it will be that bad for me, despite how much of a betrayal it actually is. Looking forward to seeing for myself once I finally get it from Gamefly.

never said that. Just pointing out that ign scores seem more harsh now mainly cause of new editors. Most of the people I liked from the site are gone with like 2 or 3 people left that I would give thier thoughts on something a shot.

I think it all depends on how much you liked the previous games. If you played lots of NG2, this game is such a huge step back its not even funny.

It removes so much content and instead adds lots of QTEs and scripted events and focuses more on story.

gameplay wise I cant judge 3 since I havent played it,but I will say a big step back is lack of weapons. It was fun trying a bunch of different weapons.

I do have one question. Shouldint a game get something like a 3 or lower if theres tons of tech problems. Like freezing, restarting, corrupted data and so forth. I mean from what iv seen the game does still look functional and I havent heard of many tec issues.

Lol @ the people here taking IGN reviews seriously. The reviewer clearly had a clouded judgement of hate. The majority of reviews are from 7-8. Stop using IGN scores in system wars.

I'm still going to play it, hell, I even gave Amy a chance (I hated it but that's another topic XD ). Plus, the scores are all over the place, it's the Deadly Premonition case repeated again.

Also, it's so sad to see nothing but whining in every gaming site nowadays. Being a gamer makes me ashamed nowadays becomes the community is full of self entitled elitists.

Its not just the weapons. They also removed all the ninpo spells except for one. (NG2 had 4) Also, they removed dismemberment which worked great in NG2. From what I heard, they also greatly reduced enemy variety and the number of bosses. There are pretty much no fiend enemies in this game, all because it "wouldn't fit into the story".

In this game it appears you pretty much fight the same enemies, with the same melee weapon and realease the same ninpo every time, all without much of a challenge. Its almost the complete opposite of past NG games.

to be honest ninpo wise while im sure some used all of them I used just 1 since hte other didint feel helpful at all. My weapons were more helpful. Also dismemeberment gone doesint bug me since it wasint a real staple of the series so that was just subject to change in my eyes. I hope what you heard about enimies aint true cause I liked running into new types of enimies in each level in past NG games.

I disagree, that is hardly NG3's problem. This game could've been good if it worked on what made the previous games great and expanded on it, regardless of the hardware it was on. Sadly, not only do they not do that but they actually REMOVE entirely what made the previous games so great.

No! Then we wouldn't have Awesome Valhalla studios and Devil's Third. I am glad Itagaki left, that way we can continue getting NG/DOA games and Itagaki's new contribution to the action genre. Also I feel Team Ninja will only grow from this experience, the only thing that saddens me is that the BeachVolleyBall games are done, I mean they were Itagaki's hobby project and I don't see Team Ninja continuing it.

I'm really surprised, The director who quit (forget his name) hand picked all his employees, I thought they'd do a decent job on their own.

Guess not.

Biggest dissapointment 2012?

A 3.0 is the kind of score I would give to something like X-Blades. I am not saying this is going to be a great game and it sure as hell is not the Ninja Gaiden we have come to love. That much was obvious straight away. But there is no way that I think it is X-Blades level of bad, just no way.

I agree. The 360 hardware has nothing to do with a game being made badly. I guess it's the ps3's fault that skyrim ran crappy on it then, not devs.

Either over rate or under rate. IGN

Though it looks crap, 3.0 is very low for IGN and the game doesn't look that bad.

However, I will say this: it is not in the league of Ninja Gaidens past. Exercise caution.

And so with Ninja Gaiden no longer the go-to series for challenging action, and who-knows-what happening with Devil May Cry...

...all my hopes are with whatever Platinum Games and From Software do next.

GS reviewer on the game, I wonder why he mentions from software in regards to games like DMC and NG. This guy sounds like that master shake dude rofl.

its actually the 360's fault if games run bad on PC or PS3. do you see any ps3 exclusives that have bug problems?? No. because 360 is not in the design of them.

If only Itagaki owned the NG rights. Disappointing how my once favorite character and franchise got butchered. I knew the game was going to be bad, but didn't think it would score that bad.

Maybe because of the Otogi games? Also I remember Kev liking Ninja Blade.

Plus with the Souls series they have proved they can do challening third person combat while avoided going down the path of cheapness.

I'm a big big NG fan and wow...I'm shocked The gameplay and trailers while it wasn't exactly great but it didn't look like 3.0 material I mean I didn't expect a 9.0 or 10 but I never expected this to score a 3.0 either. What have they done to NG? Why did they release this game in this state? Looks like I'll be skipping this one.

[QUOTE="GD1551"]

I wonder why he mentions from software in regards to games like DMC and NG. This guy sounds like that master shake dude rofl.

Maybe because of the Otogi games? Also I remember Kev liking Ninja Blade.

Plus with the Souls series they have proved they can do challening third person combat while avoided going down the path of cheapness.

Ninja Blade is a very bad, very repetitive game though and the combat in the souls games is a bit too simple for an action game.

Not surprised at all.

The Ninja Gaiden creator left after NG2, anyone with a brain would tell you this would be trouble!!
Getting Taem Ninja to make a WHOLE NEW GAME from scratch?? hahaha, ya right.

You all know who the Ninja Gaiden OG creator is, they made a HUGE HUGE HUGE mixtake letting him leave.

You cannot have Ninja Gaiden without the OG MASTER AT THE HELM!

So many people said Team Ninja would be fine, that they could make an original new NG game with no problem!! haah, look at this crap! This is not a true NG game! This is what happens when you fire an original person and let new people make a masterpeice series.

NG1 and NG2 >>> NG3 as I expected

Team Ninja are hacks, they cannot make a godo NG game unless Itagaki makes it first and they are just copying what hes done, slap in the face to true NG fans!!

WE WANT Itagaki back!!!!!

User's in here need to stop prasingItgaki like he's some god.I will admit NG Black was one the best games on X-box in the day.I also played NG2 for 360 and that game was trash, rushed or not.The guy looks like someone who would say anything to please his followers.

Promised_Trini

Itagaki is a god, stop it with the non sense.

How else can you explain teh NG series going to complete $h&t after he left? Give me a break!
NG1 and NG2 are fantastic games, NG 3 is complete and utter garbage. Ohh wait! Thats right! Itagaki did the good NG games and when Team Ninja finally had a chance to make an ORIGINAL NG game they screwed it up royaly!!! Somewhere Itagaki is alughing like crazy!!!!

Itagaki = The Man! As soon as he leaves the great NG series goes to crap!

duuuude................he "IS" god

ng2 was rushed because of the conflict between itagaki and tecmo, blame ps3 because tecmo wants ng2 to be released early

so they could work on the ps3 version (ninja dog edition) that is sigma

lol! Same here.

But unlike NG3, the new DMC actually looks pretty good -- even a little better than the previous ones in some ways.

That might be so. I'm just providing reasons as to why he, the reviewer might be excited about their future projects.

Thanks, PlayStation.

waltefmoney

Why is everyone acting like this is playstation's fault for a wonderful series to take a plunge??!?!!!

This may be the 1st NG to have a "simultaneous" release for the 360 and the ps3, but this isn't the 1st NG that was a multiplat, and what's even funnier is that the last iteration actually scored higher on the ps3 than it did on the 360. Go figure!!!!

[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"][QUOTE="BPoole96"][QUOTE="jg4xchamp"] Worse. At least DMC2s initial ideas became a blue print on building the DMC3 battle system. In between all the garbage there was a good idea. This sounds like pure crap.

That's true. It's pretty crazy that despite me spending hundreds of hours on the past NG games that I am not even considering buying this

Even with the balance issues in the 2nd game(rush job) that combat was still arguably the best battle system in the genre.

definitely arguable. I think Kamiya has always been the king of the genre, and bayonetta has one of the best battle systems in the genre - wicked weaving in itself is one of the best beat-em-up/hack-n-slash game mechanics ever.
