I thought he at least gets a bow too? I remember seeing some gameplay that he was using a bow along with a sword.
Yea, if you count ranged weapons there is actually the shurikens as well as the bow. Two ranged and only one melee, the sword. In contrast to NG2 which had 8 melee weapons and 4 ranged.
But seriously, how do you go from 8 to 1 and expect people to be pleased? If this is a sequel it should have added more. This game should have had 10-12 melee and 6 ranged weapons just to meet expectations. NG3 is a joke.
[QUOTE="DarkLink77"]Pretty much. I still can't believe that they launched the game with only 1 weapon. What a joke Itagaki is probably laughing his ass off somewhere. The dude who reviewed it at IGN was clearly a fan of the series.

when did I say the souls games were easy? I just said I know games that are more difficult. why do "invisible" games not count if it proves my point...and trust me, if you didn't play the asian version of demon's souls - than you haven't experienced demon's souls when it was most difficult. anyways, as for shmups that you can play (not region locked): dodonpachi resurrection releases in the US this year - retail xbox 360 release already released in Japan, espgaluda II (region-free), mushihime-sama futari (region-free), pink sweets (region-free), crimzon clover not to mention two non-shmup games I listed before...baroque and dwarf fortress. I probably wouldn't consider these the most hardcore games of this gen either. I just find it hilarious that you consider demon's souls the most hardcore game this gen - which you really didn't define what hardcore was - but I figured you probably meant because of its difficulty. glad I hit it on the head.[QUOTE="4dr1el"][QUOTE="Some-Mist"]I can think of a handful of shmups that are 5 x as difficult as the souls games. More so Sengoku Basara. Which is a pretty deep warriors style game with (as of Utage) 30 extremely different characters. Capcoms last great franchise.
The games are good, this is not debate-able.
I personally had more fun with fotns: ken's rage than sengoku basara. then again...I've only played samurai heroes. I think I might've had more fun with the gundam musou series too.Some-Mist
Ken's Rage is hilariously broken, but fairly fun. It was the first platinum I've ever earned. I just enjoy SB more because it's an ongoing series with hours of replayability, and I see all the characters as fairly deep (as of 3 and Utage.) With over 5 normal skill and 3 selectable ones, the jump/roll/dash cancels, the individual nuances, everything....the games are too good. I enjoy the Gundam Musou games too, but I'm going to wait before getting too in depth with GM3 until I know more about Gundam in general.
Wow, I haven't read the review yet but for a Great series to score that low, you know something went wrong during the development cycle.

[QUOTE="DarkLink77"]Itagaki is probably laughing his ass off somewhere.travisstaggsor drunk off his ass because they ruined a series that he loved and put a lot of time into.
Itagaki is thorough with his games, working on them from start to release, and even post release to correct what he feels are deficiencies, and polish them up to their full potential. He has shown this in his project developments, such as pushing back the release of Dead or Alive 4 just to polish the game based on feedback of top Japanese Dead or Alive players recruited to test it out. For Ninja Gaiden, he wanted to leave the best and the ultimate action game on the Xbox before moving on to the Xbox 360, thus he reworked the game and integrated the additional downloadable content to produce Ninja Gaiden Black. With Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, he chose to patch an easy-cash exploit rather than leaving it alone and ruminating over the consequences.
Itagaki creates his game characters by immersing himself in their roles and the games. This is a reason why he objects to the suggestion of Kasumi in the Ninja Gaiden universe, saying her 'soft' nature is conflicting with the 'hard-edged' nature of the game whereas Ayane perfectly fits in. It is this role immersion which helps him to develop and exclude guns from the moveset of the Spartan named Nicole in Dead or Alive 4.
Wikipedia
It's such a shame he had to quit Ninja Gaiden.
At least he's working with another publisher on a new title, though.

Yeah, it's sad to see Ninja Gaiden going down in quality. I've never considered it the top of its genre (I've always liked DMC a little more) but the first two titles and Black are amazing games. I hope NG3 gets at least a 7 here, but from what I've read and seen, I don't think it will.oh my. i guess we're done with the action games. havent been a truly good one this entire generation. luckily dmc3 HD will come soonlloveLampI thought Bayonetta was almost as good as the greats from last gen.
what are you trying to say, that you covered the scale from the 3 it got all the way to 8 and came close?I bet that this game will get a 5.5 on GS.

I bet itagaki is pleased and throwing himself a party. I can see it getting a 7.5 on GS and I really didn't have any intrerest in this NG. NG Black will always be the best 3D NG peroid.

A lot of people are saying that and it makes complete sense. If you didn't play the previous games then you will judge it as the standard action game full of scripted events and QTEs that doesn't pose much of a challenge but still might be fun. You won't notice all the stuff that got removed.
On the other hand, if you were a fan of NG you would realize what huge step back it is for the series because of how much they removed for apparently no good reason.
Basically, NG3 is maybe a good 8/10 action game but an abysmal 3/10 wreck as an NG game.

Well I cant judge the game cause I have yet to play it as well as most of the people here, but since ign says it crap I guess its fact. Me personly from what I heard about the weapons I dont expect to be the same level as previous games but I wont condem it right away as others. I want to give it a fair shake. ALso I think a 3 is to harsh mainly cause i feel a game shouldint score that low unless it has some serious tec problems that effect gameplay and is close to a broken game. Ya know something like ff14.

I actually agree 3 is too harsh. What IGN the reviewer did (while it might slightly help put Team Ninja in place) is a bit unprofessional. He shouldn't have only reviewed the game as an NG game but also as an action game, especially since lots of people who aren't NG fans will probably read his review.
But then again I also understand why the reviewer is pissed after one of the franchises he loved has gone to hell.
No i don't, it just shows you IGN's mentality of scoring for popularity. Even if it is bad, it is NO way a 3/10 bad. 5-6/10 would have made more sense. Considering everyone else seems to score it a 7-8/10.Wow, I haven't read the review yet but for a Great series to score that low, you know something went wrong during the development cycle.

No, it should be judged by the standards of both its genre and the previous games in the series. Even by action game standards, its seems like this game falls short. No other weapons by default, toned down difficulty, bosses that get repeated constantly throughout and a general lack of polish.
And by NG standards, it tosses away things that have been in the series since NGI on the Xbox. Pointless changes that make no sense and don't enhance the game in anyway. From the looks of it, NGIII really brings nothing to the table and makes changes for the sake of "trying something new"
I'm not against changes in sequels, but I hate when they randomly toss away things that worked in previous entries. I'll play NG III to see how bad it really is, but the reviews are not reassuring.
