At around 12 at night all the dead lair threads were coming alive. Pretty funny reading them.

IGN gives it 4.9/10
EGM gives it 5.5/10
1UP gives it 6/10
your very own Playstation Magazine gives it 5/10
We don't need to wait for Gamespots late and poorly written review to know THIS GAME is TOAST. Hopefully they won't make a sequel to such a disgusting flop.

bu,bu,bu, this is gamespot!!! those reviews dont count! it is totally possible to still get AA here!!!! :(
lol, but seriously now cows, should have listend to sheep and lemmings when we said this game would blow. And, seein the roughness lately in gamespots reviews, i wouldnt be surprised to see gamespot give this game a 3/10

Please. Spare me your "throw everything until you hit something" strategy.

My best game? My best game is going to be bioshock when I get the cash to buy it. I'll sprinkle warhawk and heavenly sword into the mix. Then bang it up with some Halo 3. Thats just for starters. By the time its christmas I'll be knee deep into uncharted, guitar hero III, and maybe even a few Wii titles if I can find one.
Doesn't suck to be me. I can afford all the consoles.

as can i, i just choose not to get the bad ones. and how can you afford all consoles when you dont even have the money for bioshock?

Recent cash flow is low. What can I say. I'm not rich either. PS3 isn't a bad console. But haters and fanboys will believe what they want about a lifeless piece of metal. But I digress. Lets keep to the topic at hand.
Lairs immense flopitude.
Umm..IGN is retarded......................

I typically disagree with IGN's review because they are a fluff-fest. What does that say about Lair? Also, 1up gave this game a 6.0.

PS3 has three games come out so close together. 1/3 suck, thats not a disaster.
[QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"][QUOTE="Newnab"][QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"][QUOTE="Zeliard9"][QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"]Sooo....instead of calling them "Factor 5"...
...can we call them "Factor 4.9" now? :D

That's awesome. Yes, let's.
Win. :D
I'm all for this. Shame that Gamespot won't score it 4.9 too because that'd seal the deal...
I miss the .1 system
I'm telling you guys this new system was put in place for the casual audience. It's more simple. Even the new layout and font looks too simple and plain.
oh absolutely. creates less controversy for them as well...but they'll soon find out that this blunted system will create an equal amount of controversy.

Agreed. The Madden review is a precursor of things to come for Gamespot's review system.
as much i have seen of this game, 4.9 is WAY underrated... i always thought it wont score 8 + but 4.9? Im still getting this game. just for the fly-a-dragon-and-land-on-the-ground-and-burn-thousands-of-small-people thing.....
Anyway, i will never listen ign again, UNLESS gamespot scores under a 6Koba123
anyone else wondering how Factor 4.9 could have missed the boat so totally on this one? How do you not know your game is absolutely atrocious? :|Dreams-VisionsWell, I could think of a few reasons. Sony was pushing them and pushing them to get it released. Factor 5 saw that Lair would never be good so they took most devs off the project and let it flounder till release. It was an honest mistake. There was a serious lack of resources and Factor 5 just couldn't handle everything. etc. No one really knows.

Hmm...but they have to know releasing a game that will not sell will not only keep their project financially in the red, but also cause massive damage to their reputation. And in the world of gaming, much like in the world of movie entertainment, you have to convince people who you want/need investing in your future projects that they will see a return on their investment.
These kinds of incidents can kill a company for that reason.

They were busy with the smoke and mirrors... And also getting the game to run in 1080p... They were also busy talking up the PS3.
By the time they got the hype train moving... They made a booboo and forgot the gameplay! OOOPPPS!
Umm..IGN is retarded......................

But it was good back when Motorstorm was reviewed.
Still, all the complaints regarding Lair seem like they make sense. Of course, IGN could be blowing them all out of proportion, but several relatively reputable sources (that is, not Play) have shared complaints.
Too bad, I was actually expecting this game to be the one that smacked enough sense out of me to finally plunk $600 for a PS3...

I think most developers honestly believe they're making a great game. They're like parents who don't realise that their kids aren't so great.
Expect to see Lair & Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire in one of those crappy game double packs at Costco in the VERY near future :) I would say "FLOPPAGE CONFIRMED", but gamespot could still theoretically scored it with an 8 somehow. Maybe Jeff will do the review right after happy hour :o
4.9 LOL. Wasn't this game hyped AAA? I was expecting better.
Anyway, mods, go ahead and lock this if there is already another thread on it that I didn't see.

I hyped it as "AA", but not sure what the official hype was. In any case, it looks like another FLOP for the PS3 to me. It flopped harder then Blue Dragon. I'll have to read the review to get some laughs. I hope Heavenly Sword scores better, as I still plan on getting that game one day.

It doesn't matter how great a game they want to make. The game is bound to sell bad on the PS3 and there is no reason to invest more money into its development.
tsk tsk tsk
Factor5 should have stayed with nintendo... ah well
R4gn4r0k
Factor 5 should have played the game before releasing it.
so basically the game is bad because the IGN reviewer isn't good at it?Zero5000X
No. That's a terrible way of thinking.
Lair sucks (according to IGN) because:
1.- You can't actually select who you want to target. This in itself is a dealbreaker here, especially considering there are two buttons for targeting. Couldn't they've made it one of targeting, one for cycling? It's one of the dumbest gameplay decisions you can make.
2.- The dragons are not precise. This is not a function of skill, but of input response. Even someone who has never driven well gets behind a bus will notice the thing is not as precise as a Ferrari.
3.- Poor gameplay design (kill bulls.... then kill rhinos exactly the same)
4.- Lame dragon-to-dragon battles. This would be another dealbreaker. A dragon game with unsatisfying dragon killin'? C'mon, the concept of "dragons fighting" by itself should be satisfying... F5 must've botched it pretty badly.
Saying "because the IGN reviewer isn't good at it" will only make you sound like a rabid fanboy in manic damage control mode. Don't.
Factor 5 should have played the game before releasing it.
madvalocity5
I think they did, and I'm sure they did find it enjoyable, for two reasons. First off, it's like watching your kid play football. Yeah, he fumbled and even made a safety... but you're seeing it through rose-colored glasses. It's your kid. Second, they're well accustomed to the gameplay, and know full well how the game works. So I'm guessing they aren't fighting through the flaws to enjoy it, but rather fully expect and have internalized those flaws to the point where they don't really think of them as flaws, but an inherent part of the game.
It's not that they're poor designers or poor testers. It's just that they're human. We're all like that. We justify the oversteer in our new car and call it feisty. We justify our new girlfriend's (or boyfriend's) flaws as cute quirks. We claim the **** who's using the machine we made should really RTFM, irrespective of if it's a valid design oversight or not.

I think most developers honestly believe they're making a great game. They're like parents who don't realise that their kids aren't so great.
while I agree that devs--like artists--get emotionally attached like mothers to children, the difference in the industry is that the "mothers" don't run the business. That's why they have quality control testers, investors, project managers and Boards of Directors who are there to make sure that big-budget games aren't so easily mis-produced.
in theory, anyway. there are (or should be) several checks and balances to keep the "moms" from running the show.
What are you going on about? Are you so blind to Son that you cant seem to grasp that this game turned out horrible. 3 other sources have already scored this game under a 6. If gamespot give it a 6.5 and u come back and be like well im never going to ign again, cause they suck or whatever, well good riddence, your arrogance blinds you. Now personnaly i was very much looking foward to this game and would still like to renrt it atleast but it seems that this one sadly wont be a buy(atleast not until its in the bargin bin) esepically in a xmas that is chocked full of high quality titles for all the consoles, this one simply on merit didnt stand up to the test. But heres the best part, this game will still probably sell half a million copies based on its "cool" factor and marketing alone. This game has been pushed, and the "idea" behind it will be widly accepted by alot of peopleLove_Hina_Lover
