I won't be glad because that means for consoles all I will have is nintendo. I refuse to buy another xbox until that thing is out for years and is proven to not break on you just by looking at it and if they are still cheaply made, then I just will never own it. You clearly are a young gamer, that knows NOTHING about gaming. Sony released the first playstation after Nintendo trew away the idea of a CD 32bit SNES expansion. Sony made a market for the adult and adolescent gamer that didn't like to get stuck with very expensive PC's (we are talking the late '90 here) in a time when internet was something most of us could only enjoy in cybercafé's. It was a leap in technology that gave us a beautiful 1998, 1999 and 2000. The PS2 was the world's first DVD player on the market, again a major leap in technology, and brought great new games and ideas. With PS3, Sony made a daring move. While I agree that it wasn't the most tactical move, PS3 still brought us many new IP's and ideas, while the opposition brought nothing but sequels to a few original IP's, yes, I'm even talking about PC gaming. If Sony stops the gaming brand, I'll stop gaming. Simple as that.

I still have a sony gdm-fw900 24 inch monitor hooked up to my gaming pc and I have yet to see a better picture on the new led monitors at any price. The only bad thing about sony is the price other than that every sony product I ever brought has been kick ass.

Right now, Sony has the most diverse platform, especially exclusive IPs. They are taking the most risks between the 3 companies and most of those risks have paid off. The last thing console gaming needs is to have to rely on the ultra safe mode business models of MS and Nintendo. You'd basically have an entire industry relying on milking 5 annual IPs...Halo, Mario, Zelda, Forza, COD. Maybe EA throws their hat in with more Battlefield. Either way, someone like Sega would have to step up, get back in the HW game, and break the mold of monotony.

Maybe Valve takes Sony's place. Who knows. All i know is we need at least one risk taker in the game. If Sony was out with no one to take their place, I would move on to PC gaming exlusively.

I'm not a MS apologist and while I agree that they haven't brought much beyond what you mentioned to console gaming; you also must give them credit for DirectX and the Windows OS. These are both staples of PC gaming. I do not like their practices though.

Sony gave me some of the best gaming fun in these years.. I have all systems PS1,PS2,PS3,PSP & PSV and I honestly think all are great.. I'd be highly disappointed should Sony get out of the gaming sector in the same way i was when SEGA moved out..

As I have said previously in this thread I'm not a fan of MS or their current direction either. However, I cannot help but give them credit for designing and supporting DirectX in Win95 and keeping PC gaming alive because of it.

As regards the Live subs, I'd say it's a point of contention. They did bring the best service, they have forced Sony to up their game in that regards and it IS part of what is making the 360 profitable. Without the profit MS could be in Sony's position. If you don't care about online gaming you can choose not to pay and use all of the other features for free so it isn't like a subscription service to use the console.

Good father of heaven, did you just compare Xbox Live to PS+?, also what with all this Sony online being weaker BS i keep hearing. Im not an avid online gamer but i game online alot and so far i have not experienced anything different with both, yea my friend has an Xbox where i played Halo4 n MW3 on.

Also keep in mind, the PS2 had an avid online fanbase with SOCOM series, honestly im of the opinion you are not well versed on the points you are trying to validate. In a recap, you would want Sony to leave gaming and just Nintendo and Microsoft has the only competitors, i duno bout you but i would invest in a Japanese made electronic device over an American one anyday, yea it sounds biased but its a COO (country of origin effect, google it), especially given the Xbox360 red ring fiasco which forced me to not buy anymore of their systems, id say the COO was on the money. Also theres something bout American firms capitalist brains that disgust me n perhaps thats why its not suprising when Microsoft can charge for a component of the game that should be free as written on the box worth $60

Console gaming as a whole has done nothing but hold back gaming in general, but between all the consoles I'd say that Sony inovated the most in terms of the game quality.

Uncharted 2, Demon's souls, Metal Gear Solid and a few others all very much provided a standard for games now.

Microsoft did more but last generation with Halo, they haven't changed much this generation.

Also theyre very much over priced, their accessories and online interations is ridiculous.
