[QUOTE="m3Boarder32"] Why would it not be valid if the word "peasant" was used, and I've been told directly by a mod that using the word "peasant" is against the rules and will get one moderated?

Context is key.

Ive been here since 2002, and the unequal moderation is worse than it's ever been. m3Boarder32
You can blame that on the latest TOU update. I agree that back in the day it was easier to see where moderations were needed.

That is not what I was told by another moderator Frankly, "Context is key" is a very convenient way for moderators to bend the rules for one poster and not bend them for another poster

Wasdie told you not to use the term peasant as an insult to other users or groups on the forums. That does not mean the word itself is against the Terms of Use. Again, context is key.

Or it's a way for you to understand that this isn't black and white. It's easy to have bright-line rules about racism and the use of pejorative terms, but you're not going to get a full list of terms that won't be used under any occasion like Cake stated earlier. The best advice that can levied out, time and time again, is "don't be a jerk." If you have trouble with handling such a means, then perhaps these forums aren't for you.

Oh please...4 days after Wasdie was lecturing me he was actively posting in a thread in which the word peasant was used like 20 times. Hell he was even quoted with the word, and not a damn thing was done about it...But yah im sure he missed it, (wink wink) Let me guess, this was acceptable context?

I get the feeling the forums won't be for quite a few of us, hell they arent for us now.

Holding the forums to the same standard of fanatical moderation as the cess pool comments section just seems asinine.  We all know the worst of the worst collide there, it's like Youtube.

We need a guide on how to insult a moderator's intelligence without getting moderated, now that would be useful.

I feel the problem is well with this terms of use is that it's highly subject. With moderator discretion as typical with alot of gaming forums, certian moderators tend to overright objective moderating with personal distian. Since the TOS, the moderators here seem decent for the most part but this is a walking advertisement for Napoleon complex to take effect.

The problem as well (imo) is that system wars actively encurages exactly what this TOS is suppose to combat. It's actively going to be a magnet and effect user attitudes and behavour. It's... dumb.

If you really care about creating a better place in which users can hold hands on a hill skipping around in a circle while Nina Samone sings "here comes he sun" you will remove system wars entirely.

What's the problem with being a jerk (as long as you stay away from the more extreme forms of hate speech), and why jerks shouldn't be allowed in a forum that was never meant to be a friendly environment?

I'm not going to debate why users should be able to be asshats because it won't change anything. You have two options here; a) accept the change, b) find another forum.

This is not going to be an avenue where you list what you have reported and what hasn't come to pass. If you have questions about items you have reported, take it to Moderation Clarification Station. I can tell you items reported take time to be handled as a lot of items get reported. Just because they a) aren't handled right away doesn't mean they won't be handled, b) just because you didn't get a notification that action was made doesn't mean the action wasn't executed.

There's two possible scenarios; 1) the post was deemed acceptable and no action was taken, 2) the report hasn't been seen yet and hasn't been acted upon.

If the TOU is making a change, then I'd like to see the following taken care of...

1. Pics and sigs that are sexual in nature.

Seriously, at times this site could be mistaken for a dating/porn site when scrolling pages. I won't even read the users responses with pics of women and have disabled them.

2. Elaborate on what curse words are acceptable.

Some users frequently use the F-bomb without a warning. But selective moderation makes it a "didn't see it" scenario.

3. Better reasons than obvious console bias to close a thread. Some threads have been closed for stupid reasons while there are loads of threads open that are flame bait and offer nothing.

I see absolutely zero problem with this, as long as the gifs are not so big in size that they would slow down my browsing. Why so uptight? It's not porn when there's no genitals/intercourse showing. Lord forbids people just want to have some fun.

On the other hand some of you might see this as an unrealistic request and to those individual Id like to remind them that there are plenty of vestibules in the online space that would welcome your closed minded views.

I do see this as an unrealistic request, and more importantly, a very inefficient attempt at solving the idiocy present in the comment section, a part of GS rarely visited by SW posters.

According to GS, that makes me... guess what?

There are racists, there are sexists, there are homophobes, and there's... Nameless_One, previously (un)known as Rocker6, a poor kid who just wouldn't shut up! :P

I thought most of your recent moderations were for forum invasion, not calling people peasants

lostrib

No it's calling people peasants or even "plebs" which is "the common people" And btw according to the rules "Forum Invasion" means a low level account is spamming to get his post count up.

no it doesn't read the TOU

Fair enough. Funny how I can honestly say Ive never broken this rule when they get specific on what constitutes as forum invasion. " This includes, but is not limited to: messages or topic titles that force browsers to scroll horizontally; large blank or content-free messages; "rick rolls" (posting misleading or disruptive links); posting identical or near-identical messages or topics; or nonsensical messages in a single or multiple topics. Flooding a board as a group with topics or messages; instigating, participating in, or retaliating in an invasion of a message board or any other online service; announcing or inciting a "war" or any conflict with the regular members of another board. Posting a link to a third-party site where an invasion is even remotely will be considered an invasion. This rule set will not be enforced on GameSpot Fuse or any blogs and unions within GameSpot, unless the conduct would otherwise violate the rules regarding Offensive Material and Illegal Activity." But of course, you leave it to the discretion of mods, and pretty much anything can constitute as "forum invasion"

Actually... [QUOTE="Verbtex"]Forum invasion is the term we use for posts which are disruptive, only intend to annoy / call out users, or are repetitive.Stevo_the_gamer

Man, that is probably the best way I have ever summed that up. Where did I post that?

And why does System Wars have it's own "Rules Thread" if these rules are contradicted by the Superseding Gamespot TOU? It makes no sense at all. If the System Wars rule say you can call somebody a dumbass, why wouldnt you also be able to call somebody a peasant?

So GS forums are only for nice boring ol' postahs, huh? Kinda lame.ManInFlames

I bet if they actually put it for vote the vast majority of the community wouldn't want it changed at all.

Look at posts counts and views of each section, it's not some huge coincidence system wars is by far the most popular.
