I can't tell if this is a real Tom McShea love thread, or someone wanted to talk about how much they wanted gangsters and planes and terrible polish back over GTA IV.
Probably the latter.

GS standards. Personally I don't like numbers
GS standards means no standards at all. To have standards they'd have to reveiw all games, even ones that aren't popular, but they don't. They're a joke and always have been. Hell all review scores are a joke. I agree with you, I don't like numbers. Reviews would hold much more credibility without scores being attatched. I know it's fun and all to have them on SW but they really have no value what so ever.Thank god theres more people like you. Quick lets form a secret society. "No Numbers"
I think scores don't work so well in reviewing things, considering the amount of different opinions. Or maybe they do work, but people have to realize who the scores are for.
If someone gives Call of Duty consistently high scores, those scores are for people that like military FPS games. So when someone who hates FPS games and multiplayer whines about its score, its a massive facepalm moment for me because the score isn't for you. You don't like those type of games anyways, its like someone who hates racing games complaining about Forza getting a high score when he is bored by racing games.
McShea I think had a noble intent. His score was a 7.5 because to him, its not as memorable as other games. For a Zelda fan they'll love it, but you have to stack it up to other Zelda games and other great hack n slash games or Nintendo games. How does it stack up? How better or worse is it?
Scores to me, just don't make as much sense as someone telling us the pros and cons and about the game, and people reading it and deciding for themselves whether they'd like it. It just doesn't seem like there is a universal measuring system or grading curve, and unlike with movies games seem more stuck on a 7-10 scale, which undermines the whole thing.
It's his opinion. Nobody has to agree with it. If he wants to give Skyward Sword a 7.5, more power to him for having the balls to do so.

Tom's a pretentious prick He states the controls aren't responsive. Gives interview saying how important controls are, in fact the most important part of a game. Goes on the hotspot and says the score would have been the same even if the controls were perfect:roll:
He knows he wanted to flop this game and be the lone realist that doesn't inflate scores and only gives "real" reviews and to do this he made a bunch of bulls***t claims so he damage controlled and started whining "Zelda formula doens't change no innovation" then goes on "I want Zelda 1, I want a game like Zelda 1" Everything he says he contadicts himself. I like Vanord and Chris Watters but I can't read Tom's reviews anymore he's a DUMBASS:P

He's actually a nice guy just because he has to give a novice chef position as head chef at a fancy restaurant who barely know s*** about cooking doesn't make him a brat. Some of those contestants aren't worthy to be able to use a microwave let alone run a kitchen, and anyone who knows anything about the restaurant business knows that yelling goes on 99% of the time.
And Tom's just crappy reviewer.

If he didn't care he wouldn't scream, he'd just let the show take it's course and let the winning jackass lose his job in a couple weeks. I've seen someone falter when his job was to boil water!
All I'll say about McShea is I HIGHLY disagree with his Skyward Sword review. I think Skyward Sword is abosultley amazing. It just feels so fresh and original, and the controls work great. 10/10 for me so far.
Tom McShea fell into the gigantic void of reviewer irrelevence after his Infamous 2 review. The only credible reviewers for me are Kevin Van Ord, Chris Watters, Carolyn Petit, and the Giant Bomb crew.

[QUOTE="romans828_2002"] It depends on how you define that much. Like I said, they are annoying to me, but the game is quality enough to make up for it in my mind, but I value more than combat in a game such as this.romans828_2002
is it bothering you to the point where as you find it a 7.5 game?
I can't really say as I tend to reserve judgment until I've finished a game, or at least come close (or decide the game sucks too bad to finish). I'll dodge your question completely and say "maybe." Keep in mind, though, that I don't really delve too deeply into the whole numbers game. There are games that I dislike, ones that I like, and ones that I absolutely love. Right now, SS is somewhere between like and love.
alrite fair enough lets see how you feel when you are done
[QUOTE="Mario1331"][QUOTE="shakmaster13"] Valve with Portal(granted they just picked up the guys developing it), DICE with Mirror's Edge, From Software with Demons Souls, Obsidian with the way factions were set up in New Vegas, Relic with Company of Heroes with the focus on small squad tactics, Creative Assembly with Shogun 2 because of the huge RPG elements intertwined with the RTS, TBS, and RTT elements. That's just off the top of my head.shakmaster13
everybody gets their ideas from something so eh.
just because you dont like nintendo much doesnt mean they arent innovative you kow
I don't hate them or anything, I'm just not a huge fan of their games. My feelings(that I don't particularly even have) towards Nintendo don't affect my views on their lack of innovation in games. Nintendo barely innovated in gameplay in the past 10 or so years. Feel free to disagree but that won't change the facts.you havent provided any facts just an opinion. if we talking about innovated gameplay then yea SMG defutes your arguement about 10 years because theres as much innovation in one level of that game then majority of games out this gen combined.
but i dont get your idea of innovation you named games that to me just added elements to gameplay mechanics to make them different if thats what it is then no nintendo keeps a formula for each ip they have BUT they do change each game up in every iteration of said series.
Is that innovated? probably not but nobody really innovates that much anymore just copy and refine an old mechanic to make it feel different which is what i believe you feel is innovated granted everybody on here has their own meaning of the word so ill agree to an extent but i do believe nintendo is the MOST innovated out of the three companies.

Well if he did talk to you like that you're probably a terrible chef. He deosn't act like that most of the time, he's a passionate guy and when someone is f*****g up, they need to learn that it's not acceptable at all as a head chef. Just because it's on t.v. doesn't mean that this doesn't happen in kitchens across the world, it's a very hectic lifestyle.

No he goes too far, nobody with any self respect should have to put up with crap like that. It goes well beyond dramatic criticism.
When I worked in a pub (as a barman) the 2nd chef was scottish and talked to people in exactly the same way regardless of their job, getting a lot of people very upset. The boss never did anything because he worked 80 hours a week on low wage and never complained. Eventually it boiled over and the assistant manager took him outside then smashed his head against the car park 6 times, he spent 2 months in hospital and has never pressed charges because he admitted he deserved it. They're actually friends now believe it or not.
When Jeff gave twilight princess an 8.8 it slightly annoyed me cause I respect him(and also cause I was younger then), but 8.8 is still a great score
Who cares who this Tom Mcshea is? Anybody at Giantbomb is 10x better then almost anybody at gamespot. OnlyKevin Vanord is near the calibre of the giantbomb crew.
I have played Skyward Sword and I disagree about the controls with the sword. So far, I have had no problems with Link following my movements when I use the sword. Its above the quality of the sword controls in Twilight Princess, and I'm enjoying it more then pushing buttons to do the same thing. As far as I can tell, its not unresponsive and I have yet to have Link stand there ignoring my movements.
As far as the camera goes, its no worse then most other games that I've played. It's not perfect, but I can't say that I've taken any damage or made mistakes because of bad camera angles.
Ultimately, I would say that this game should be higher then a 7.5.
But I think the hatred and worship of Tom McShea is going too far. He's a reviewer that gets payed money to express opinions on video games. For whatever reason, Skyward Sword did not impress him enough to warrant a higher score. I respect that he does have an opinion, and its not my place to judge him or attack him for doing his job.
Reviewers all over the place gave Super Mario Galaxy 2 a perfect 10. Personally, I felt the score was too high for a game that felt like the 3D equivalent of the Japanese Super Mario Brothers 2. But I respect the fact that those reviewers voiced their opinions and gave the game a 10.
I feel Skyward Sword is underrated here at Gamespot and I personally disagree with many of the points that were brought up in the review. But I'm not going to attack Tom McShea for offering his opinion on the game. Just like he thought SS was a 7.5, I feel SMG2 should have been a 8.5 or 9.0.
People are blowing this out of purportion. Does his review really destroy your enjoyment of Skyward Sword? Is it worth gloating about it on the Internet when the game still holds a Metacritic score that is higher then both Uncharted 3 and Gears of War 3?
Maybe some prespective is needed for both sides.

For someone who doesn't need defense he sure did defend himself a lot. I'm playing the game and the controls work perfectly but I could easily see them messing up with him. This is a game you HAVE to be in the mood to have fun, it doesn't do all the work for you, you got to put the patience and time into it (which isn't hard I mean the controls are very easy to use)
but my gripe about him is is backtracking. Says controls matter, then says they don't. Says he want's it to change, then says he want's a game like Zelda 1. Says Majoras Mask took the formula and made it fresh and changed, then said every game after Ocarinca didn't deserve anything above an 8.5 because they are all the same after the guy said it got an 8.3 or 8.2.
He would have looked better if he kept his trap zipped and let it end with the review.

Yeah probably, but with backlash like this people tend to get defensive, and others will pick that sh*t apart. I mean, the forums were bad enough, I can't even imagine how flooded his PM inbox is.
Tom McShea and the rest of the gamespot review team must be sitting somewhere pissing themselves laughing at all these threads being created and the hatred towards him and how he is not relevant anymorebecause he gave Infamous 2 & Skyward Sword 7.5! What does it really matter what he scored the game?
Actually just yesterday I was on the toilet playing Star Fox 64 3D and decided Falco Lombardi is Tom Mcshea in game form.
lol When he gave Infamous 2 a 7.5 i was shocked however i didnt blindly start bashing the guy. I waited for the game to release i beat it myself and i strongly disagree with the score.Yet i still didnt go on the forums bashing tom for his review, ppl just need to let it go if you know the game deserves a better score in your mind that should be enough. You dont have to come on the site and spew hatred at the guy for doing his job because his opinion doesnt match yours
And sheep wonder why people don't like them very much and hope their games flop.are people still raging about zelda? Come on.
