IPAD Pro and Surface Pro 4 Narrow Graphical Gap w/ Consoles

Granted most die hard console or PC fanboys detest this topic but it is more and more apparent.

I've played games on my IPAD Pro that are very close in graphical performance as my PS4 or my son's Xbone.

Now although the touch screen control scheme is not the preferred controls of most gamers, they do have dual analog controllers that work with tablets, and I'll admit the sheer size of game selections in the App Store, be it for free or between $1.99 to $9.99 is mind blowing.

So I ask myself, why make return trips to the game store and toil through the shelves trying to decide which PS4 game to buy costing between $19.99 to $59.99, when I can get a nearly identical fun gaming experience for either free or a fraction of the cost ?

I couldn't really justify it, especially when there hasn't been much to choose from lately in the console section, once again I'm left waiting for upcoming console releases......whereas I just peruse the App Store and get instant satisfaction.

Well I know most PC or console boys will dismiss this as a non viable topic or utter waste of time but I always weigh pros and cons and nowadays the tablet gaming world is more graphically impressive and always more affordable.

Tablet Graphical advances search YouTube for these titles:

Afterpulse ( Call of Duty clone )

Orc Vengeance ( Diablo 3 clone )

These are not new titles but they do run at 60fps and 1080p.....and impressed the heck out of me.

If you find phone/tablet games to be as fun as console/pc games, more power to you. You get to save money. Most people don't like the lack of quality of phone games versus console/pc games. At least with the surface pro you can play real PC games as it has a real OS unlike the iPad Pro.

As far as it looking close to ps4/xbox one, I call BS. PS3 and 360 maybe, but not ps4 and xbox one.

Because both depth and creativity both exist in much higher quantities on non-mobile devices than the shitty money making scheme that is mobile gaming.

I'm a video game enthusiast, growing up is not an option.

I disagree, I think all gaming hardware has their share of shovel ware, that being said the App Store does have the most I grant you, but if someone takes the time to research reviews of what's available you will be able to sift through the crap to find the gold.

After paying for my IPAD Pro I now have a total of 46 games and the ones I paid for amount to $14.00.

I enjoy them all as much as any of my PS4 games, not to mention the full charge on my IPAD lasts a heck of a lot longer than the full charge of my PS4 controller.

As time goes on you will, if you haven't done it already, be blowing more money on PSN or Live and $60 per game, that on top of a $400 console will easily blow past the cost of any model IPAD or Surface Pro.

Show us a game that looks close to Battlefront, Quantum Break or Uncharted 4 on iPad OP. We shall be waiting.

@Slimmin360: Very few games have I paid full price, I usually wait for sales. And I mostly play games that take 100hr or more to finish, I'm not interested in pay to continue or pay to win games, oh I'm not into the touch screen controls either.

Aralon or Ravensword easily has 100 plus hours of gameplay, and they have controllers with the exact same buttons and analog sticks as consoles for tablets, and these games do not have ad pop ups or pay to continue requirements.

Good thing there is Steam, GOG, Origin, Uplay and others. Windows is just there so the computer works. You don't have to deal with it most of the time.

You make it sound like such a chore to find a game on a dedicated system, yet I've done whole school assignments that took less research than it takes to know if any given mobile game is worth my time or just a fucking money grab,

1700e for the i7 model is pretty damn steep and the graphical performance isn't exactly great, I can run some older titles with 900p but that's about it

And they'll never come remotely close to the fun provided by even the very cheap 360, PS3 or Wii.

For the price of those Ipads I could duct tape 4 PS4s together, or preorder NX and probably all launch games when they're announced. I just don't see the appeal Especially since its outta date a year later.

I love my iPad, best thing Apple ever made second only to the iPhone but I can't think of anything less appealing than gaming on it. For me, my iPad excels in having everything I could want for wasting time in one place. Its got a very good browser, the Apple ecosystem means stuff I do on my iPad gets transfered over to the Macbook Pro and my iPhone as well as my iMac but I no longer use that as I've given to my parents. Its a wonderful video player, the build quialty is second to none and the support is amazing but as a gaming device? It flat out sucks.

If I'm playing games that were designed for touch screen then its ok, I like that game where you are a virus that infects the world etc but trying to play GTA3 with a touch screen was an exercise in frustration. Using the iPhone my thumbs would take up a large portion of the screen and I don't have that big thumbs. The lack of physical feedback was another major annoyance. With a traditional controller I can feel a button being pressed so I know its going to do what its supposed to do. With a touch screen I have no physical feedback, I don't know if I've pressed the right area of the screen etc. If I'm playing on the iPad then it presents a whole host of new problems. The first being the weight, its not a light device so holding it for long periods gets tiring. There is a reason why nearly all iOS games are designed to be played in short bursts....

Being a tablet to be a dedicated gaming device is stupid quite frankly. The negatives far out weigh the positives. The 128GB with Wifi only is £800! I could buy a PS4 and an X1 and still have change left over for a 3DS.

You're suggesting I play cheap knock-offs of popular games with shit touch controls? Yeah, I'd rather spend my time trying to bite off my own earlobes.

So buy a controller that's made for the tablets and that will solve your touch screen control issues, next fold your iPad cover into a stand and prop it up on a table, and there you have it, your playing games exactly how you would on your console.
