[QUOTE="killzowned24"]um, PS3 is $300. and lol at the hermits not including windows that which cost more than the cards they have listed.foxhound_fox

You can't play a console without a television. And those cost at least $100-150 for a 13" CRT. Then if you want HD, you'll be up in the range of $500-750. That's a lot more than a PC that runs Linux and Wine. Plus, most university students can get Windows for free. And most pre-built computers come with a monitor and Windows pre-installed, and they go as cheap as $400 in Canada.

it's truth once you add "legally" at the end ;)

Silenthps

Computers nowadays can barely emulate the PS2, the PS3 is probably 5-6 years off.

Each time one buys a console they have to buy a new TV? I need a couch to game in front of my TV too. Don't forget that. A good leather couch is essentail when gaming with consoles. Most likely you own a TV, couch, and the house that comes with it before your new console. And you didn't buy these things for the console. This is ridiculous. PCs are more expenisive then consoles. Maybe we can compare if the PS3 is bundled with a hdtv then...it would be fair comparing it to PC.

Why the hell would you need a $400 power supply? Shurely a power supply that is between $50 and $100 would service just fine? What the hell are you running? HAL 9000 or something?

Feel free to figure out what that costs if you're really that curious. As for "what he said", just use a DVI-HDMI cable. I provided an Amazon URL to one that costs a whopping $2.53.

For the longest time I used a 21" CRT monitor for my 360. It was better than any SD television, and made gaming on my 360 readable. Right now I'm back to SD, but want to get a new TV sometime soon. Being without HD for the 360 really does stink.

Interesting - I wasn't aware that DVI-HDMI cables such as this one (http://www.amazon.com/DVI-HDMI-Cable-6ft-Male-Male/dp/B0002CZHN6) no longer existed. Thanks for letting me know!

lowe0

I didn't know the PS3 shipped with HDMI cables. And even still, you won't be able to find a sub-$100 LCD monitor that displays a resultion over 1366x768. Trust me, I've been doing my research. Most 1080p LCD monitors with good refresh rates and contrast ratios cost at least $200-300, and even then they don't come with composite, component or S-video inputs.

I issue a challenge

Show me that you can build a 400$ PC that runs games as graphically amazing as Killzone 2

kolkov01

That's easy. The biggest problem is that you cannot still buy hardware as crappy as the PS3. You're pretty much forced to buy a decent duo or quad which is far superior to the PS3. So, even though a 400$ PC may be crappy, a 550$ PC is 10x the PS3. It's like going into a gourmey deli and asking for a 99c cheeseburger.

Good for you. Highlight the part that's technically incorrect, please.

lowe0

Oh it's correct, but it doesn't change it is still an effort on the console gamers part to minimize costs outside of tradition.

In reality most of them will be playing on a TV as PC gamers do on a monitor, they boast about the TV/couch combo all the time as being in their eyes a console advantage, as is expected of consoles. But for the sake of argument any fanboy on both sides will use whatever rational that enables them to come out on top, they will price up the cheapest 720p capable monitor they can find online; then go play on a TV.

You of course get expections to the rule on both sides, but it doesn't make the consoles + monitor argument any less of a joke with the amount of 40"+ TV boasting that goes on in here.

Also, consoles are sold at a loss. Meaning you're going to be paying for the hardware through games. PC gaming is cheaper than console gaming. Face up to it.

Absolutely horrible logic. If console gamers can use their old TV's, then why can't PC gamers use their old cases, mice, keyboards, PSU's, cooling systems and harddrives? Why do they have to buy all-new parts? Just having to buy a new MB, CPU, GPU and RAM could cost you as little as $250, putting it into the old case you have lying around. Neither do you need top of the line parts either.

PC gaming is as expensive as you want to make it. It can be more affordable than console gaming (when you buy a new PC at the beginning of each console generation, and buy cheaper games (buying 20 $50 PC games saves you $200 over $60 console games)) or it can be an incredibly wallet-draining experience (buying the best hardware you can find and always upgrading when something new comes out).

Lets also not forget that PC's do so many other things than just play games, so the money spent towards a new PC carries far more inherent value than console gaming.

Oh dear, I expect he's routing through his PC photo collection right now for "evidence" of his lack of bias. I actually have part ownership of a PS3, but I don't throw out photos in an effort to add weight to my arguments.

Plug the audio cable that came with the console into your PC's speakers. Stereo sound; just the same as you would have gotten out of the TV.

As for my not owning a PC: care to put your time where your mouth is? 4 hours of volunteer work for charity. If it's so obvious that I don't own a PC, then this should be a no-brainer for you. Let's see your response in this thread.

Done and done, I believe I got all the necessary components for a computer correct? I'm pretty sure if the Playstation 3 can run Killzone 2, this setup could run Killzone 2.

By the way, I haven't spent a good amount of time researching different hardware and what is better than what, so I'm a bit rusty on that subject, I did this in like five minutes to prove you wrong.

Computer

DarkGamer007

that 4670 is terrible, any higher then low with 4gb or ram on bfbc2 is terrible, and this is running at a 1400x900, mmm a solid..ish 30fps.

edit: my specs

4670 1g

4gb ram

2.8ghz amd

windows 7 32 bit

i've almost got an identicle system to the one you posted, all i can say is buying that garbage will end up costing you more then just spending $600+ outright for the system with ddr3 memory 4gb and a nice 5850 or something. I've had it for about 6 months and it blows and i'm already replacing everything

Stick a medium CPU+GPU in your current computer, done.

Also add in the price of the laptop/computer you're using to complain about how expensive PC gaming is, you know... since your magical power box console that costs $300 can't browse the web etc.

inb4 PS3 web browser.

"Hey you hermit! PC gaming is so expensive!"

too long didn't read version: for the price you paid for your 360 and PC/Laptop you could have just bought a gaming PC

the thread asked for a 400 dollar pc. how much was ur tv that u play ps3 on btw?

True_Gamer_
You mean the TV that I purchased to watch TV BEFORE I owned a PS3? That is irrelevant to the price. Does your build include a monitors price?

You mean the PC Ive purchased to do computing tasks?

Weird. I own 5 PCs that do all my computing tasks, and none of them are gaming PCs. Why don't we just add the cost of a couch to a game console as well? Oh how about the cost of the internet? Hell let's add the cost of me having to purchase clothes to wear whenever I go to the store to buy my console. The average person has a TV well before a console purchase.

Ive bought a PRE BUILT PC for £420 in late 2007 when PS3 was at £425....Added a £80 8800GT and saved loads of cash by not paying £50 for games but only £25....So youre saying that the average person doesnt a pre built PC? Oh and why should I care if the "average person" lives or dies again?

Build me a pc that kills the PS3 for $300 (including Blu-Ray and wifi because the PS3 has those built in). Build me a pc that kills the 360 for $200, then we'll talk.

[QUOTE="LOXO7"]Each time one buys a console they have to buy a new TV? I need a couch to game in front of my TV too. Don't forget that. A good leather couch is essentail when gaming with consoles. Most likely you own a TV, couch, and the house that comes with it before your new console. And you didn't buy these things for the console. This is ridiculous. PCs are more expenisive then consoles. Maybe we can compare if the PS3 is bundled with a hdtv then...it would be fair comparing it to PC.

foxhound_fox

Well I was just refering to my own situation. If I were to game a game like K2 on my pc... I would have to learn about PCs. to build my own. This will take time more than money. But you're right. If one does have a PC equipment allready, just upgrade it to play the top games < buying a console. But I am PC illiterate, like most people are. So they take the same theory, "I buy a new console to upgrade graphics, I must do this for PC." Have you thought about that part? Imo I would never cheep out my PC. That's just asking for trouble.

I issue a challenge

Show me that you can build a 400$ PC that runs games as graphically amazing as Killzone 2

ronvalencia

There

Power supply-BFG 550W - $50

CPu-Athlon 2 x3 2,7 GHZ ( triple core ) - $72

Mobo-Asrock Am3 with 2 PC-X x16 slots for sli/crossfire - $60

Vga-Sapphire Ati 5670- $93 Great mainstream vga that can play most games even at 1080p

RAM-Kingston 2GB DDR3 1333 - $53

HD -250GB seagate $45

Case- Gigabyte - $27

Add $10-15 for a keyboard and mouse and you are set

much better than consoles and only $400 ( 410-420 with a KB+M )

You dont need a dvd drive just use various DD services

Like Radeon HD 5670, Radon HD 5570 still includes 400 SPs and it's cheaper.

http://research.scea.com/ps3_deferred_shading.pdf

5 SPEs = 20 pipeline enabled G70. To beat PS3, you need a GPU that would beat two cutdown G70s i.e. Geforce 8800 GT would do the trick.

8800GT is over 2x the power of 7900GTX SLI (24 pipes each). I would go lower.

Please explain to me how to "pop in a vid card" in a laptop. . . Or a SFF PC that uses onboard graphics.

It might do those things for a cheap price... but after I spend $300 on a PS3 I then also have to buy a laptop since I need to post on gamespot about how awesome consoles are. so ya, you also need a computer as well as a console.
