I would say no , they are not. People say it is just a pc on a different os . isnt that what a console is?

Its not the same platfrom it has its own hardware and software. macs were the first home computers .

Technically, yes. But for arguments sake it's easier to separate the two.

Here, yes.

Outside of here, yes. It's just not a Windows-based PC. PC is pretty much all-encompassing as a definition, and thus Mac would fall under it, though the term has become more popularized (no thanks to Apple) as defining a PC running Windows.

On both HD consoles and PC, the main processor tech comes from the usual American IBM/AMD/nVidia/Intel PS; SPE's ISA is based on VMX/Altivec.

For all intents and purposes, they're the same. Current Apple computers use the same hardware, have the same input devices, use the same type of user interface, and derive their library from the PC's library.

Consoles cannot run "PC" software. Macs do. It is a PC for all intents and purposes. Mac OS would run on a run of the mill PC if Apple didn't specifically add in hooks so it won't run. Imagine if MS did that, lol. Apple would go cry to mommy.

Computers, but not PCs. PCs are a branch of computers, while things like consoles and even calculators are also technically computers, but they are not PCs.

Its not quite that simple because software is just as dependent on what OS is being used as what hardware is being used. And even with Apple having switched to x86 processors, they'd probably run into some legal trouble if they tried to include a Windows emulator with OSX.

You can install LinuxPPC and MOL (MacOnLinux) on Xbox 360. It's possible to port ReactOS (open source Windows NT clone) and run it on Xbox 360. ReactOS PowerPC would face the same issues as Windows NT 4.0 PowerPC edition i.e. lack of PPC Win32 apps.

Without the BIOS/ACPI emulator, UEFI PC can not boot normal Windows.

PC came to define a "Windows-based computer" as a way of differentiating it from Mac platforms.

that's just what Apple/MS have instilled in the computer-using person's mind.

But windows doesn't have anything to do with it, GFW is just a trademark to say for people "oh look your PC is worth every penny because it's running on Windows".

1. Macs were not the first home computers, they were the first very popular home computers.

2. The hardware is almost exactly the same.

A Mac is a PC. Not a good one, but it is.

Technically, yes. It's a computer, and you can play games on it (not a massive library, but with Steam's support, they've got a whole lot of awesome games now). Personally, I frown on Macs because some of the best games are exclusive to Windows, not to mention dozens of programs that require the use of Windows. Still, Mac is a PC in my eyes. Maybe not as beastly as a gaming rig, but it gets the job done.

Yes, currently Mac is just yet another brand of PC, not really diffrent from the ones HP, Dell or Asus make. You can buy it, install Windows on it and have fully functional PC without ever using OSX.

Platforms are about hardware, not software. If they would be about software then PAL 360 is separate platform from NTSC 360a and games that use Steamworks and Games for Live are on separate platforms too.

With Steam, I wouldn't bother now, but I have put vista on my mac originally for games, but i've ended up using it for normal applications. While you can get those applications on the mac, it's sometimes more expensive.

For example, Roxio Toast vs Roxio Creater 2010. This has a huge price difference for some reason.

Yea they are, but I have absolutely no idea why you would buy one for gaming over a normal PC, considering the game library isn't even close to a normal PC, and you can't upgrade or customize your Mac, and it costs more for the same performance.

If we were talking 5-6 years ago i would say they are different but nowdays Mac uses the exact same architecture and the exact same parts as any other Pc You can install Windows on a MAC pc as easy as you can Install on a DELL pc You can install MACOS on an HP Pc as easy you can install it on a macbook pro and yes its legal and you dont need any tweaking or anything to do it because we are talking for the exact same x86 architecture

Mac is a brand name for personal computers made by Apple.

Operating System isn't the same as Personal Computer, it's just a part of it. If I erase Windows and install Linux on my PC, it will still be a PC.

Manufacturer isn't the same as Personal Computer either, it can be made by Dell, Apple, Alienware or yourself and still be a PC.

If that wasn't funny, I'd have hit you in the head. *looks at first page* Okayy.. very heavy philosophical thinking.. @topic: I say a Mac isn't a PC. Why? What does the P in PC mean? Personal right? And what does Steve Jobs not want in the Mac either than a custom wallpaper and some other things? Personal.

Mac and PC's are computers simple as that.

They both do the same things.
