No, ff6 is better and BG2 is better than that. If you want toa good modern jrpg, play persona 3 and 4.ff7 takes it as far as greatest rpg of all time.

Good game but it's not the best RPG let alone best FF title.ff7 takes it as far as greatest rpg of all time.

My favorite RPG - Tie between Diablo, Diablo 2, Champions of Norrath / Return to arms, Demon's Souls, Kingdom Hearts. :D
I hate turn-based RPGs. Legends of Dragoon was the only one I could really get into, and by some chance of fate my friend ruined one of the discs so I never finished it.

Isint that just an opinoin? You can never find out whats the best FF title since people have different views on each game.

Of course it's my opinion that's why I posted that remark :PIts an incredibly well written and engaging game, but its not the best RPG ever.
Thats NOT a bad thing however.
This. Just because you can customize your guy it doesn't make it an RPG. Seriously. Borderlands is more of an RPG. You who doesn't even know what a good rpg is should not be commenting. If you want to know whatwrong with FF13, PLAY PERSONA 3 and 4.. Everything in that game shows what wrong with ff13. LOL, look at you telling peopel they don't know a good RPG is. Have you ever played a real RPG, like D&D, Inquisitor? I had an Inquisitor game where my cowardly Stormtrooper (i believe we either added in morale, or we used the Intellegance skill to base the rolls off) charged a Chaos Space Marine with a Grenade and shoved it in a hole in his armour, the GM was so impressed that it payed off he receieved a skill.....i'm just not sure if i'm allowed to post its name here. Now thats an RPG, *sigh* i really wanna whip out my crazed Tech Priest in another game, but sadly the group can't get together for a couple of months.[QUOTE="IceBlazerX"][QUOTE="bbkkristian"] If Mass Effect is an RPG, then so is Zelda.dreman999
No. It's actually average at best. It's story is pretty bad (in all honesty it's a retread of ME1 but without the Saren plot. It's just "Go and kill some Geth!" but exchange Geth with Collectors.)
It suffers from a boatload of beginners traps at the end and even though the game is around 20 hours long, it manages to somehow feel short.
Just my opinion. I was highly disapointed when I played it and when I gave it a 7.5, that was generous.
[QUOTE="110million"][QUOTE="Heil68"] Yea, it's kind of sad. Heil68You were expecting a proper discussion on RPGs with a title like that? I think you would have spanwned much better discussion and far less hate with maybe "Whats the greatest RPG of all time?" Feels like the thread was made to generate hate with all the topics about whether ME2 is even an RPG and all that. I was just sharing my opinion and welcomed others to share therse, making the topic as open and inviting as possible. I was simply stating that ME2 caught my imagination and attention like no other RPG before it. I played the game for almost 9 hours on the day I purchased it, which isn't like me. Maybe because it's in space or maybe because of the Bioware polish, but I stand by my opinion that it's the best RPG that I've ever played. If other people have other opinions that is welcome to be discussed. That's good and all but I would welcome you try other bioware games as well like Bulder's Gate Aand Bulder's Gate 2.

I agree 100%, best game this gen by far. Loot is always fun to get, that's for sure! While I dont appreciate it going the route of "RPG-lite", its easily one of the most enjoyable games Ive ever played and probably the best this generation.
Could use more loot. Always love me some loot.

I want my loot too. But ME2 is still the best experience I've had playing a game this gen. While I dont appreciate it going the route of "RPG-lite", its easily one of the most enjoyable games Ive ever played and probably the best this generation.

Screw this gen, I say one of the best all-time. The only game I can perhaps say I loved more than the Mass Effect series is Freelancer.
I just found my Freelancer disk the other day, thought about installing it and see how that holds up. It was so much fun. Many people seem to be disagreeing eith the game winning rpg goty which makes me happy, rpg it isn't. The defense for the people that loved it is exactly that, they loved it. They're not saying it's the greatest rpg but just a great game which is true as it stands now. An ironic situation would be if bioware one of the pioneers of rpgs streamlines the genre even more than what they already seem to be doing.

Do it, beat the story quick, and get exploring. I've done everything, literally everything there is to do in that game three or four times, and probably spent hundreds of hours playing that game. I love it so much. Hell, it was keeping me up glued to my screen just last year! I need to play it again soon! :D
Mass Effect seems kind of broken to me. It doesn't really feel like you have a team that really compliments each other as it it feels more like they took a character and broke him into multiple parts. I really couldn't see myself having less fun if they just combined the power of your teammates into one character. What ever happened to rpgs where your teammates actually complimented you? What ever happened to having your whole team wiped out by one enemy, not because he is overloaded with shields and health, but because you don't have the right mixture of defensive and offensive spells and skills. Does it really even matter what skills you choose in the end game? Don't you remember a time when you couldn't just lead an enemy all over the map chipping away at his health because the first thing he would do is completely lock your team down if you weren't prepared.
Exactly, nobody and I mean nobody can say that ME2 is a bad game and be taken seriously... Because ME2 its a great game. But no way in hell its 2010 RPG goty, especially with Fallout New Vegas offering all the things a RPG must have and ME2 is lackingMany people seem to be disagreeing eith the game winning rpg goty which makes me happy, rpg it isn't. To expand on my previous answer, it's not even the best RPG of the last year nor Bioware's best work in the past year, both awards go to Dragon Age: Origins and the first also goes to Demon's Souls.
I respectively disagree with you there. I liked DA and have the PC version but it's nowhere near the fun and exciting as ME2.To expand on my previous answer, it's not even the best RPG of the last year nor Bioware's best work in the past year, both awards go to Dragon Age: Origins and the first also goes to Demon's Souls.

[QUOTE="oldkingallant"]I respectively disagree with you there. I liked DA and have the PC version but it's nowhere near the fun and exciting as ME2. Problem with DA is, for ME, you have a universe of mixed existing sci-fi plots with a few spins of their own, and most of the characters (at least non-DLC) have some quirk that makes them interesting. DA is literally 99% LOTR plot, and each character fits such a generic stereotype its hard to really like them. I enjoyed the party banter a lot, reminded me of Baldur's Gate and such, but generally they were not that interesting as characters. I prefer DA's gameplay a lot to ME's since its closer to old skool RPG than ME is, but it certainly seems to fail in the 2 sections ME suceeds the most.To expand on my previous answer, it's not even the best RPG of the last year nor Bioware's best work in the past year, both awards go to Dragon Age: Origins and the first also goes to Demon's Souls.

IMO no. As much as enjoyed the Mass Effect series I wouldn't put it up there with the FF's Elder Scrolls, Diablo's, and Fallout. It's pretty much an RPG lite. They lose the weapons and armor socketing in the second one, and replace the mako planet exploration with planet scanning in the second one, which to me seemed tacked on in order to give it longevity for those thatneed to get 100% for each sector of the universe. It's main selling point as an rpg is the story and decision making system which I love, story has elements of stargate/star trek/blade runner and great visuals. Overall I consider it more a tps than an rpg personally. Still pretty great game, hopefully they add more equipment customization and exploration portions in the third one.
