[QUOTE="Silverbond"]WoW won GotY 2004.Silverbond

Collecting a whole bunch of MTV and Spike TV and loser blog/website awards is not the same as an AIAS Award....I'm afraid not.

That's absolutely lovely. But you said WoW hadn't won a GoTY when, in fact, it did.

he said GOTY "Oscar"(AIAS) and not only a GOTY.

Probably so, but since they are an exclusive developer, people might not think so.

And who cares? One game doesn't launch you into the pantheon of game devs.

Silverbond

No...No I didn't.

I said WoW has never won an "OSCAR" GOTY. If you read the original post like I asked, you would understand the context of the word OSCAR and AIAS awards.

What is a GOTY oscar? Is it different from normal GOTYs? Because wow got GOTY here if I remember....

Persistantthug

You should go back and read the original post I made that started the poll.

AIAS = Oscar

Oscars? Is that supposed to make it look better? The same oscars that refused to hand out awards to Martin Scorcese? What really counts is how the people look at something and will remember it by. I believe Uncharted 2 will be remembered like Half Life was that is why I consider them in the same category, but Bioware and Blizzard have not just one franchise which holds that same degree but various.

But it doesn't matter, no matter how you look at it no one is going to be copying uncharted 2 since uncharted's gameplay is technically gears of war's but everyone is copying wow. Which one had more influence is obviously transparent which is why WoW is so recognised by the industry.

Guess Bungie should be up there too since Halo won a few AIAS awards.

But wow has an aias award....

http://www.interactive.org/awards/annual_awards.asp?idaward=2005

click through and see if you find it... HL2 also mopped up that year.

Espada12

Yes,

WoW has won an AIAS award, but never an AIAS GOTY award.

In other words, Half Life 2 and Uncharted 2 are BATMAN....MICHAEL JACKSON. WoW in this case is Robin and Tito. lol

If Naughty Dog , or ANY of NDs company caliber would make A SINLGE IP and especially a sequel based on a already popular formula , as Blizzard doin , EVERY 6-7 YEARS for a single title and for an easy platform as PC ( easier architecture and well known programs to make VGs with ) ... IMAGINE for example ND drop every other IP and focus on UNCHARTED 3 from now till 2016-17 release for PS4 or PC or something... Wouldnt be 10000% AAA game? Does that make you elite?!! in a way maybe...

Quality makes you elite , but also lack of quantity and making sequels for more than 15 years now ( sc2 after 13 years) is not elite at all...

OFC is on the same league as those companies.!!

Bioware might be a step beyond ( i mean , new ips every time , most AAA and take everything a step beyond .. Cant compete with anyone , its on another league) but hell yeah , ND is a great company

How many games does ND have this gen? 2 right? Ironically one being a sequel which you mentioned.. is not elite. Blizzard is releasing their second and third this year, so does that mean ND should be docked for lacking quantity. I mean they will have less games out than blizzard...

I would have to say yes, anyone who says no hasn't played the Uncharted series.

SonyIsh6Fotta

i have. loved it. bioware, blizzard, and valve all have sustained success over a long period of time with multiple series. does naughty dog?

i would put them at around bungie levels. bungie has only seen great success in one series, much like naughty dog. it's nothing against them- they just haven't had as much sustained success as those mentioned... yet, anyway. i could see both bungie and naughty dog getting there.

edit: wait a minute! forgot jack & daxter. that does change things a little, i just haven't played them, but they did have great success both sales and critically.

They're getting there IMO. I'd say the next slew of games will be the determining factor. It's one thing to hit it out of the ball park the first time, now it's just seeing if Naughty Dog will be consistent with it.

Yes, I think that was fair nomination.

Considering that Uncharted 2 was/is the current graphical benchmark for graphic tech, yes, it is fair to nominate U2 for OUTSTANDING INNOVATION.

But rightfully, it didn't win that one...Scribblenauts did....rightfully so.

Its easy to make AAA games when you pump out one every 6 years lol....Give BioWare 5+ years to make Mass Effect, or Quantic Dream 5 years to make Heavy Rain etc and these games would be mindblowing.

i did put in an edit for naughty dog's sake. whether or not you include bungie's other title's depends on how you rate "success". sure they were good, but did those titles reach blockbuster-level success. Again, it's a personal opinion thing. the thing about blizzard and bioware is the success they've had in so many different series (bioware being my personal favorite). valve is fringe. they get extra credit for half-life, plus all the engine work they do along with their others series they've worked on.

i'll say this, bungie and naughty dog have been some of the best console devs in a long time.

My point is you are bashing one company for making sequels and not enough games and praising another when blizzard is going to have more games and a sequel and ND is having one new Ip and a sequel to that IP.

According to you not having enough games =/= elite. Blizzard is soon to have 4 out for the gen (both so far have been AAA) and as far as we know ND is on 2 (AA and AAA). The way you also try to put it off is that ND has so many Ips to their name.. but news flash they only have 3, same as blizzard, except their IPs don't have near the influence on their respective genres as blizzard games.

Now you want me to start with that? Or you cant see the obvious or my whole point...? Their second what ... Their third what? Expansion to WoW and a sequel to already popular starcraft? Does milky milky way of things , comparing with totally new IPs from scratch? Other than that ( releasing 2 games in short period of time SC2 and D3 ) is now an excuse when D2 is a 2000 game and SC2 is a 1996 one? Or maybe WoW ( already 6 years old ) ? Whats your point? Espada12

If thats what you understood from my post you missed my whole point. Also i didnt say ND is better, i said ofc can compete with Blizzard but not with Bioware. Expansions are not even games to count them as a whole new product. Also .. answer me this then. Imagine ND focus only on Uncharted 3 for the next 7 years. What you think results will be , when in 2 ( 2007 to 2009 ) the sequel had 9.5 and 10s? Answer me here what you think about it .

Looking at the poll, I am a little saddened.

While naughty dog makes great games, they are not on the same level as Bioware, Blizzard, Bethesda, Valve, etc.

Naughty dog hasn't really done anything to change the industry in major anyway, where as the developers above have.

[QUOTE="_Pedro_"] Incidently not one of them was under AAA. Espada12

Its easy to make AAA games when you pump out one every 6 years lol....Give BioWare 5+ years to make Mass Effect, or Quantic Dream 5 years to make Heavy Rain etc and these games would be mindblowing.

WoW 2004 - Burning Crusade 2007 - WOTLK 2008, that doesn't sound like every 6 years to me.

Since when do expansion packs count as new games? Thats like saying Resident Evil Lost in Nightmares is a new game.....cmon

Do you understand how many games blizzard has released from starcraft 1 till now? Seriously what kind of argument are you bringing here? They didn't focus on anything for 7 years..... They can't compete will blizzard, this is a fact.

I can accept this answer as a logical one since Diablo and WoW changed alot the action/RPG - MMORPG genre vs NDs Crash bandicoot and JAX.

Currently, they don't hold a candle to Bioware, currently they probably beat out Blizzard and Valve, but if you count Blizzard and Valve's history they blow ND out of the water.

How are they not. Crash Bandicoot series is one of the best selling series of all time, jak series was a little weaker but still managed to sell 10 million+. I mean basically winniing 90% of game of the years and creating a action adventure title that is going to be sell 5-6 million copies. They deserve all the love possible.
