Okay, well i'm not sure what that system has to do with this discussion

Try to avoid going off topic and derailing the thread

I didnt, I just helped you out. I know that you have problems with reading.

No I read it rather clearly, you just seemed to have trouble explaining what you were talking about

but seriously, you should avoid derailing threads again

Nah, Im derailing nothing. Im just replying to helpless hermits to the best of my ability. I always stayed on topic.

But thanks for reminding me again, I hope you will stop derailing this thread with valentines talk you had with your fellow lonely hermit and your minuscule questions soon.

Hey, what took you so long? Normally, you reply within seconds.

Too bad. I guess I have to contact a moderator to prevent that?

@lostrib: Its me mocking PC gamers for starting petitions for so many console games. GTAV is a perfect example of that.

Hope that helped....

Are we going to ignore the petitions console users make for PC games?

You mean the ones with a signs count combined are still less than GTAV or Dark souls alone?

Hell, even bloodborne has a count of 8000 and that one should be borderline retarted to petition for.

So we going to shift the goalposts now? Its only bad to do a petition if you want a console game on PC?

Sorry, there was much going on with lostrib that I forgot to reply to you.

I did not move the goalpost. Where did I move it? Petitions are only worth mentioning when many people sign them. You could combine all petitions from console players and you would still not get nearly enough signatures as a single one I mentioned. To your second point, petitions are not bad at all but it shows how much of a **** you give about said game. The GTAV petition before it was closed reached over 800,000 signatures. You will never find a petition from console gamers that are even close to that number.

Either way, my initial post still stands about PC gaming being cheaper. Still dont get why so many hermits got angry at me.

It is moving the goal posts, you're selectively picking evidence to suit your argument. Yes there aren't as many signatures for PC games yet there are still people wanting said games on consoles. You can't place an arbitrary restriction on something to twist it into your argument.

And for this, the reason people got angry with you was because you made a blanket statement about PC gamers without a shred of evidence to back it up then continued to dodge the argument by moving the goalposts and the use of arbitrary restrictions.

my goodness the guys crying on this thread is embarrassing. i have 89 games on steam and i have spent under 250$ on games. and i have been a console gamer since ps1 until 3 months ago. granted my pc cost over 1k. so yes initial cost is usually too high for many which i understand. but the game savings are there. 45 games for 31$? including all the hitman and tomb raider games and their respective dlc's? PLEASE show me where u can find console games on the regular for under 10$ and i mean newer ones.

you guys realize you can trade most of your games on steam to other members as well?

New release physical console games in Australia are $80.

So yeah buying digital pc games for $40-$50 is ALOT cheaper for me.

@The_Last_Ride:

Lol x100...

1) Games are way cheaper and in higher standards most of the time. Means you playing the best version of a game on the best price available 80% of the time.

2) Myriads of FREE 2 PLAY awesome/popular games ( League of legends , Hearthstone , Path of exile ... you name it )

3) You can play ALL arcade games and ALL console games up to PS2 ( legally in most countries by law if you own the original copy of the game )

4) Crazy Back compatibility ... you can even play games of 90s or 80s in 2015. Try that with a new console....

5) Amazing price to value ratio by MODDING ( check Half life , Skyrim , Source etc etc )

6) Genre king ... PC is the only platform in video gaming as of now that plays some genres way better than the other gaming platforms. RTS - MMORPG even FPS playing better because of Mouse+Keyboard combo. Plug and Play traditional pads also available for all the "console" like games also.

7) You can have nowdays in decent prices all of the above i mentioned with a decent price laptop. Means you can game anywhere and everywhere in those high quality standards , game at least at 720p and have all the above benefits... just like that.

8) Way better online ... nuff said i think

9) More and more previously traditional console games find their way on PCs as multis ( Metal Gear Solid 5 for example and many many more examples ) so ... why not ?

10) Last but not least ... you can do 100000 things more than a console ... Video editing , music composing ,photoshoping ...you name it .. Thousands of different things other than just playing games. Thats what i call value for a system.

So all in all ... PC IS the cheaper choice in the end because it offers so much ... not even all 3 consoles each generation combined couldnt dream of in both quality and quantity of titles and things you can do on a single platforms.

Game offline sharing is a charm on PC.

Just use offline mode and you can have 3 friends playing at the SAME time any game....

AKA 1/4 of the cost.

Soo u can get Witcher 3 at $12....at launch...

Try doing that on consoles....Oh and it is completely legal and no cracks or piracy involved.

Could you get Murdered Soul Suspect for $5 NEW?

How about Thief for $5? or How about Deus Ex 1, Invisible War, Human Revolution Director's Cut and the Fall for about $7?

ALSO FREAKIN' FAR CRY 4?

It's $29.99 on Amazon. Well About all Console versions of the game are $29.99 right now.......EXCEPT FOR THE PS4 VERSION which is $39.79 (BUT THE VIDAZ!)

MSS is $24.99 (new) $16 (used) on Amazon.

Thief is $19 (new) $11.99 (used) on Amazon.

FC4 9s $47 (new) $32 (used) on Amazon.

Deus Ex HR is $14 (new) $6 (used) on Amazon (on the 360).

..but lets look at the recent Valentines PSN flash Sale.

DW8 (retails for $59.99) Flash Sale $18

Guilty Gear Xrd (retails for $59.99) Flash Sale $24

LBP 3 (retails for $59.99) Flash Sale $24

Rayman Legends (retails for $39.99) Flash Sale $10

..I don't think anyone can argue that Steam has some great sales. But the notion that EVERY console gamer is paying $60 for ALL of their games is just plain Stupid. Herms have to face facts that Console games are pretty freaking cheap if you know where to look. And now with PSN/XBLG sales.. looking ain't much of a chore.

Not really. If you're spending enough on a PC to avoid issues with PC optimization flaws you'll be spending a lot more on a PC just in itself. I've been a Console gamer all my life but I have dabbled in PC gaming (who hasn't?). I don't play on PC anymore however. Anyway, optimization on PC pretty much makes it so you have to go above and beyond specs to be able to play games at very high levels of detail.

Also, I buy a lot of my games when they are on sale on Console. Always have. So that "low price" that comes from PC sales I wait for on Consoles a lot of the time. Granted I still buy quite a bit at launch. But I have that luxury so why not? Anyway, it really depends on what you do or don't do. I could wait for every Console game I buy to go on sale or just down by a lot. Just depends. There is no one right way to do it.

In 30 years of gaming I find consoles to be cheaper in that typical 5 yr course. I spend about $1100-1500 every 2 years on average for PC just to stay up on getting 60 fps ultra maxed out on the newest games. I mean that is the entire point of gaming on PC, to max out the performance and to keep the minimum fps as high as possible even when using texture mods. It's way too easy to make it seem like it can be cheaper...they forget to tell you the cheaper experience you'll have with new games next year. Hows that $500 PC today going to handle Witcher 3 maxed out? Hell it takes a near $500 video card alone to get a great experience with games like AC Unity and the beta of Project Cars chugs on anything less as well. Don't expect much from todays PC in a couple years without concessions especially if you ever plan on Oculus Rift or other technologies as they come forward.

Steam deals are only good for the games that you don't care enough about to pay retail price for and can wait a long time. Look how long it took for FC 4 to reach $40 dip on a holiday sale...not worth the wait if you were really excited about playing it. Plus in many cases, not every good game get's a holiday sale, AC unity is still $60, maybe on the spring sale you'll save $10...nothing like waiting unless you just didn't really want it that bad to begin with.

PC gaming. A decent rig that will allow you to play all games on high $800

3 years later the latest Graphics card $200-$300.

Console for 5 years or more: $400 plus psn/xbox live $250(5 years) $650

I rent most of my games so don't cost me much. PC gaming is way more expensive and not games are better on pc. Diablo 3 is 10x better on consoles IMO because of the controls.

Also never trade in your games. Sell them yourselves on ebay or amazon and get 2 to 3x the amount gamestop gives you.

Diablo 3 "better on consoles" is nothing but a myth. I've played both PC version and console version. The latter is a lot slower compared to the PC version and a lot less action happens on screen. There is more fun in crushing dozens of foes at once by using different combos at the same time with hot keys than fighting handful of monsters in a slow paced combat with dodge. Diablo 3 console community is next to nothing when compared with the amount of players on PC.

Diablo 3 WAS better on consoles, I agree but it was for short period of time back in 2013. Since Reaper of Souls and patch 2.1 it is superior on PC. The only reason why Ultimate Evil Edition has higher overall score is because all the improvements that were made in the PC version through updates were part of the package since the very first day. I expect same case with next expansion as well. Diablo 3 is NOT superior on consoles, let alone "10X" better.

Almost 99% multiplats are superior on PC, even console centric games like Metal Gear Solid V. As for the price,,, yes the entry cost for PC is higher than consoles but it is a known fact that games are a lot cheaper. It is up to you to only buy what you plan to play and you'll end up saving more in the end on PC than you could while gaming on consoles.

In the last 6 years I have spend around $2000 in total for pc hardware, and throughout these years I was playing games at max with 60fps, and I am still doing it without out a problem, and my PC is 6 years old except from the gpu's and cpu.

Also very rarely I spend more than $15 for a game.

PC gaming is way cheaper than console gaming.

I have seen this illogical expectation and weak argument with regards to cost of gaming on the PC in that you need your games to run at the highest resolution with everything maxed out so you are forced to upgraded every year. That is just stupid. Hardware advances has stagnated reducing the need for an upgrade. Secondly I can easily play all of the modern games on a 750TI which is around the same capacity as the XBox and PS. Now, in the same manner both PS4 and Xbox One has the same specs for as long as they exist and developers are FORCED to make compromises in their games as the years pass to make their games playable on these systems, the same logic has to be applied to a PC that is aging. Arguing that you can't play the games with everything maxed out is a fault in PC gaming is nonsense, that is how hardware works regardless of the system.

Secondly if we are to take a look at gaming on the PC to gaming on the console then you have too look at some factors that are easily overlooked

  • PC games are not system locked so, you have access to every PC game that has every been made
  • The console market is split in three so accessibility of some games are split because of exclusivity
  • Some consoles; 66% of them, lack backward compatibility making your older games useless without another system

So if we are to take just this generation of consoles we would have to buy all of the next gen gaming to have access to all of console gaming has to offer. For PC gaming you only need a PC and thats it. This scenario PC gaming is simply cheaper. If however, you game casually and most if not all of your games can be found on one system then console gaming is cheaper. If you need to have a consistent 60FPS at 4k for the next 10 years then PC gaming is going to be more expensive for obvious reasons. If you only need 1080p at 30-60FPS then PC gaming will most likely be cheaper.

So, the cost of gaming on either platforms varies depending on the gamer. However, its illogical to expect more from the same specs regardless of platform. That should never be the crux of your argument, its just plain stupid. Also performance do not improve on hardware overtime whether its consoles or PC, compromises has to be made in order for the newer games to run on older systems.

In the last 6 years I have spend around $2000 in total for pc hardware

PC gaming is way cheaper than console gaming.

And that is way cheaper than console gaming, if you consider the cheaper games throughout these years, + if I was a console gamer I will still pay like $1000 in last 6 years away, because I use my pc for other stuff, gaming is just a fraction of what I do with my pc. And if you only want to play games at console graphics and performance then the cost will reduce significantly.

@Pedro:

You mentioned the one thing that console gamers hate, customization. An aging computer can always lower a setting and still be of better quality than consoles. This always results in the same arguments from the console crowd; that you can only compare a console to a '$3000 PC' that you have to upgrade every 6 months to stay top of the line. As idiotic of a premise as it is they never take into account with this fallacy that those that upgrade often sell their older components toward the cost of the new hardware. When they inevitably fall back on the used game market defense of the games cost for consoles they ignore that simple fact, PC has a used market for components too.

A perfect example of the compromises currently being made was in the Digital Foundy: Evolve article. The console versions don't even have environment reflections enabled and were cut for performance reasons but were enabled by default on PC.

1 is wrong

and most of those are on other platforms

alright, but you can play games on old consoles aswell...

So? Just play it on the original console, it's conveniant not better

i will give you that

Most games are sold on consoles

handhelds

alright, i will give you that since it's free

Exclusives from Nintendo and Sony don't. Also there are console exclusives you never see.

So your argument that a pc is suppose to do what a pc does? A console is dedicated to games...

Yet a majority of video games are better on PC.

Seems like consoles have to step it up on their one job.

This PC Master race rubbish is so juvenile. I am convinced that these people who consider themselves strangely better than console gamers are previous console gaming fanboys who found a new fanhood.

Cherry-picking shouldn't really be allowed either

You guys should learn how petitions work. One guy creates it and after that the people can sign them. You cant compare the few petitions console gamers put out against the petitions PC gamers are putting out when the "pls bring to PC" petitions have 1000x or more signatures.

@clyde46 That was a joke question. I know exactly why the hermits in this thread got mad. Mix a little hyperbole into a point and people go into a frenzy just like it happened here.

To articulate my initial point a little more serious and without hyperbole this time. PC gaming is cheaper because of 2 reasons:

1: Open digital market. PSN, Xbox live and whatever nintendo uses have no compitition on their plattforms which explains the horrendous pricing most of the time. You have an open retail market in both PC and Console gaming but you would have to pay shipping costs or drive trought different stores do get a better deal.

2. Mentality of the community. Here is the point I brought in this thread. PC games distributers are competing not only against themselves but with piracy too. If the price of the games does not start low enough or if it drops not quick enough there is always the way of acquiring the games trought illegal means. PC gamers know that and not many are willing to pay full price for games anymore or at all.

Steam with Gabe Newell are often said to be the savior of PC gaming but the only thing they did is to open a online DRM plattform which found sucess because of the dumping prices hermits so often brag about. Thats really the only reason steam is even popular as a plattform.

On the other hand we have devs not being happy with PC gaming in terms of piracy:

CD projekt the current PC gamers darling was after pirates in germany for the witcher 1 and 2, but they stopped a while ago because it damaged their image.

Crytek the lost PC gamers darling openly said they will not develop for PC exclusivity anymore because of piracy.

Now to my point about that PC gaming is for poor people:

If you look at the graph you can see that console gaming is more present in richer markets like N.America or europe while you have a great part of the PC gaming population from poorer regions like asia and the "other" which is most likely africa, south america and so on. Its only natural that this is the reality with the acccesability of a PC and the possibility of gaming trought cheaper or free ways (F2P, piracy and so on).

"The study then notes that there are 270 million "core gamers" at the heart of the market (those who dedicate a good deal of money to gaming each year). Unsurprisingly, the count of total gamers swings toward PC when including the casual market, but swings back rather pendulously toward console gamers when only counting "core gamers" (or traditional gamers - those who actually identify as a 'gamer' and contribute monetarily to the industry)."

http://www.gamersnexus.net/news/1318-games-industry-revenue-and-genre-popularity

To end my point. I dont see any reason for PC gamers to brag about cheaper games and wear it like a medal of honor when it is carried on the back of piracy and poverty in a big way.

@thegreatgeneral: So essentially it's bad to pay less?

Its not a question with a yes or no answer. It depends from which angle you look at it. For consumers its always better to pay less but then you can say that piracy is perfect for the consumers because you dont pay anything. No?

If you want the industry to flourish you would want people that enjoy your hobby together with you not to be too stingy. Thats why I prefer cauals in the console industry that play COD all year and sometimes buy actually a good game from a different developer of publisher at full price over someone who plays Dota all year and buys 2 games for 5$ in some sale.

Thats not me saying people should day 1 every game or whatever. Everyone has their own buget and spending habits and thats fine. But I dont think there is any kind of worth to advocate cheapness. The celebration of it is what is iffy.

Edit: Im seeing the same mentality creeping into console gaming too. Many times with PS+ people refuse to buy a not too expensive game if there is a possibility for it to go into the PS+ roster. I cant blame them but on the other hand I would not say that its the best way to go if you want more games of the sort.

tl;dr think you quote wrong person.

Anyway idc or remember who said what, but the cherry-picking remark I made was to address the hypocrisy in this thread well forum in general. Everyone knows absolutes don't exist and that the point of that blanket statement was simply this, "piracy is prevalent in PC gaming."

Instead we get a mob ignoring the obvious and back n forth bitching then have the gall to say oh we got angry with you blah blah blah plz all of you knew what he was saying and played the role as instigator. Of course most likely wont admit he or she is wrong, then derails thread which again you knew to be the most likely outcome. Hence instigate...angry my ass toying more like it. Anyway, not surprising since its a shit thread so take that back mess with it.

But who cares....PC has more high scoring games every gen. What does it matter how many petitions there are when the platform ends up with more games ? It's not my fault PC gamers can't have enough......First place just isn't good enough for them. They want more and more.

And, I'm glad the best version of GTA V will be on PC...like nearly all other games.

So youre saying that the "cheap" console gaming is strong in rich regions?

While the "expensive" PC gaming is strong in poor?

Bizzare eh?
