How can such an outdated hardware be anywhere near $350!? This thing has trouble with 3D graphics in 720p, and it costs just $50 less than a PS5. The Switch OLED is now more expensive than the Series S, which is underpowered on its own, but is still miles stronger than the Switch.

They sold us toys. They sold us cardboard. Now they're selling us 2012 hardware for almost the exact same price a 10tflops system is being sold for.

This might be the biggest ripoff of the 21st century.

Switch Lite was 199 and is the only one I bought the other 2 look severely overpriced and don't even have a d-pad

Yeah I completely agree. There's no reason they can't drop the original model by $50 and slot the OLED as the replacement at $300. Not enough of an upgrade to warrant the extra money imo.

I'm being generous actually. The Switch, when docked, has a compute performance of around 393 GFLOPS, where the Series S is around 4 TFLOPS - but a handheld switch is even slower.

On paper it's like 11 times in docked mode, and 22x in handheld mode

In practice it's more like 15x and 30x respectively.

I won't upgrade, but I am keeping my Switch. Too many good games to give the machine up altogether.

And the best case for the successor in 2023 is a 5x boost. Mobile tech from Nvidia can't manage more than that. So it'll still be weaker than PS4 base even if Nintendo gets the best mobile chip they can. CPU can come close to about half of Series S though, but memory bandwidth is tiny and 12GB RAM is the absolute maximum.

The latest Nintendo Switch will finally come with an Ethernet Port on the docking station this time. Isn't that great?

I mean sure Nintendo could have added an Ethernet port to the original Switch before and not have us wait for four years to finally get it built in. But gosh darn it I'm so excited that it finally got a basic feature.

@hardwenzen: I would agree with you, but then look at the price of any Samsung or Apple phone, trash specs and overpriced at $1k and higher. What's the difference between a switch and an iPhone? I guess if you think of it like that, Nintendo can charge whatever they like.

While i will never defend a 1k phone (never owned one anywhere near this expensive), but at the same time, lets not pretend that a phone is just that, a "phone". You pretty much have a portable computer that fits in your pocket.

The great news is consumers can choose to buy whichever model they want to support the best selling console ever.

it sold 5Million on PS4/PC. those souls games are the same as nintendo games. low effort different skin and charge full price and people eat it up.

only difference is nintendo sells 10million to 20million and souls games on average only sell about 5.

ps5 digital is a poor man's ps5. only broke people and casuals who dont know any better buy it. the sales show the digital version tracking behind.

people would get an oled switch over that any day of the week. nect gen is garbage with no games right now. returnal is a harcore frustrating mess. ratchet and clank is mario lite. and thats it...

compared to nintendo dropping pokemon acercus. the first open world pokemon game that people have been dying for.

If price is attached to horsepower, PS5 is also extremely overpriced for its low specs ... with that being said ... yeah, is hard to justify the $350 for the Switch OLED

Anyway, it's tempting to purchase the new OLED version. I've played the hell out of my Switch over the past 4+ years, and it has seen better days. I'll definitely get my money's worth if I buy a replacement, time-wise - plus my partner can finally have a dedicated machine for Animal Crossing/Pokemon/Phoenix Wright/Mario Kart/etc.

Keep in mind Switch is selling well, the silicon shortage, it's portable.

But, and I thought this for a while, partnering with Nvidia has its advantages but also nobody ever makes a deal with a devil without regretting it later. For MS on OG Xbox, they refused to cut prices of hardware over time and thr OG Xbox couldn't stay competitively priced. I can only imagine a similar situation for PS3, and no doubt Nintendo is under their thumb. So, it's not all Nintendo I imagine. Sure Nvidia isn't giving them much choice.

Also, Sony is probably taking big loss on PS5 for now, make it up later. Nintendo, can't imagine they want to take losses like that on their hardware.

So, don't buy it. I probably won't, but it's a luxury item. People buy $10,000 watches. What's the harm?
