I thought AVP pretty much killed two great series.

Never gave a damn about Alien series, but really liked the Predator series. But you're right though

[QUOTE="ArisShadows"]Maybe I been watching too much Sci-Fi movies, tropics, ice and alien ship seems like the general things I see.

Wait...Now games are generic because they have been done in movies before?
When did I say that, all I said, that how the whole alien thing feels. Just seems the familiar settings and so.
The interior of the space ship is looking amazing...With threads like these guys, please don't go around saying "Oh, we like Crysis for more than just graphics".
It takes another game and its features for Crysis' features to be talked about in that department. Unprovoked, it's all about how pretty it looks.
Nevertheless, it does look pretty. Just doesn't make my jaw drop. Nothing will ever do that to me if it's just technical greatness, I'm afraid.

Then you don't know where the alien interiors get their inspiration from do you?
Alien movies (well, the first two and possibly the third) completely own Predator movies. I like both but the Predator series seemed more simplified than the Alien films.
Both good franchises anyway. Thanks Paul for destroying our sci fi franchises.

that's a crappy screenshot by the way.
But yeah that's the only bit of Crysis that really interests me. Not as risky as Giger's work, but it looks very biomechanical.
I've always disliked how games are suppose to be separated from movies in terms of story. Films don't get the same treatment from age old poem and prose.
I mean, just because the gaming industry is in its teen years doesn't mean it's okay to have a story where the knight in shining armour saves the princess, or have some ultra-cliche medieval european fantasy setting (look at Oblivion).
BTW AVP 2 TRAILER ROCKS EVERYONE GO WATCH IT!
FrozenLiquid
If games, movies, writings are not seperated.....
Every movie or game that's gonna come in the future is gonna be generic. Everything is written by some 12th or 16th or whatever century author in some work or another.:?

There will always be an infinite amount of ideas, because if there wasn't, we wouldn't be evolving as a society.
Every single story; every single way a protagonist is developed can be stripped down to universal archetypes. What we do is just twist these archetypes into contemporary society, and yeah -- a story is created. The good ones are fresh and original.
The bad ones are the ones you see at your bookstore that have a Tolkienesque Elf in it :P.

Fincher fan here heh. He wanted to do something great but Fox effed him up. I liked the concept of the Dog alien, but yeah, it was shaky.

Super soldiers aren't generic. It's the way you use them that is. Not sure how Jake Dunn is going to be used though.

Yeah, everything has its certain cliches. Whether you do them right or not is another matter.
Personally, I hate the aliens speaking english in Halo. It's just stupid.

Hermit Halo fan I guess lol.
I had a week long streak with Gears and that's about it. Haven't touched the 360 since. My brother plays it all the time though.
I'm full up with PC games like LOTR:O, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, still play Vampire...Bloodlines and once every cinematic mod comes out Half Life 2 (including mods like MiNERVA).
I have a restricted amount of gaming time so yeah. After Sept. 25th though it's pretty much all Halo 3 for a long time, before panning out and going back to the PC.
Anyone go to UCLA or the other campuses? Do they have any big gaming communities? When I go over there for my overseas education year, I wanna at least be able to play some kind of game during downtime.

Yeah......Read this.
"Dynamic Story:
The plot is set, but the rest is up to you. While some missions will be forced, others will be optional. Optional missions usually end with some kind of reward and they have the potential to alter the rest of the story. Crysis has what the CEO of Crytek likes to call a multi-threaded storyline. This means every major character has a storyline of their own, this includes your squad mates. If you let a squad mate die for example (mentioned above), it may make your future missions a little tougher, or you may have to find an alternative to a certain task.
Another thing about the story is this. There are no cut scenes, nor is there anyone telling you what to do (not directly or constantly anyway). The story will unfold around you, it's your job to find out what's going on. You need to keep your eyes open and ears tuned. A squad mate may mention to another squad mate that there is a weak spot to destroying one of the alien crafts. If you don't hear what that is, your going to have to kill it the hard way. That's just one, there will be things like that the whole way through Crysis"

No no in some other game. Or perhaps it's just really similar to killing/saving NPCs in previous games.
It's that animation where some nano-suit guy busts into a building and knocks out a soldier.

Agreed. But AvP 2 is not being butchered by fanboy Paul W.S Anderson.
Haha i beg to differ.Alien is no longer H.R Giger at all.......
He only did the first film (which was Fan freaking fantastic - though the alien character was already a creation he had done beforehand), and had no input / bareley any in any after. If anything AVP is a disgrace to Gigers creation.
And after seeing the trailer, it looks ok...... Nice and gory + over the top, but the acting seems pretty woeful from the trailer. And the story + setting is ULTRA cliche..... setting ESPECIALLY.
Ah well its going to be just another popcorn movie, I doubt its going to be the viceral experience Aliens was.

No, but the original design of the Alien was. Subsequent Alien designs deviated, but only the fans can see most of the changes.
And yeah his painting"Necromicon IV" was the inspiration for the alien design -- I have his Necronmicon books. I'm attracted to his nightmarish visions; apparently the happiest people love to linger in the most depressing environments (which is probably why I keep writing sad movies lol). And you guys think walking into a Death Metal fan's bedroom is weird. I got some weird sexual biomechanic sh*t instead of Jess Alba on my wall. But yeah his work is beautiful. Biomechanics. Love it.
I'm just happy that it's going to be an R rated movie lol. Don't know much about the story, and quite frankly I'm not that hopeful for an Alien vs. Predator story in 2 hours.
I so wanna pen a fifth Alien movie. Take it back to the roots of the first y'know -- none of that Ressurection action crap or Alien 3 zealot stuff.
And cliche or not, we so gotta have the finale of Aliens infesting Earth. I'm sure it's easy enough to pretend the AvP story lines are non-canonical :P

Since it's my first playthrough, I haven't done anything "bad" in S.T.A.L.K.E.R, but I'm sure if you killed some main ones you wouldn't be able to do some missions.
I know they're RPGs, but in Morrowind and Oblivion if you kill certain NPCs quests and info won't be opened up to you.
Yeah it's a lot different from hearing info without interacting but the concept is kinda in the same region.

Ya im a fan of Giger's works aswell. I have one Necromicon book, AR+ Giger book, and another Tachen Icons one of him. Yea his Biomechanics works are amazing, and has defitnaly got some weird sexual stuff going on in his works, hell some of his sex sketches are beyond crazy. Im quite the fan of his occult imagery aswell as his use of symbolism, and his depiction of his dreams / nightmare visions as you said - very very interesting and intrueging stuff. His other works like Birthmachine and Li I + Li II are also amazing........ Ya Giger, Munch, Goya, Bacon, Chapman Bros. all freaking awesome artists, with very compelling visual imagery. And I second you there, in that its an R movie, thank god its a gory - the way it should be lol. Hell the acid blood melting on the guys face looked awesome. And yea the story wont be much methiniks - but oh well what can you do.
And yea I agree with you again, there should be an Alien 5 - that should go back to its roots - or hell like Aliens. Alien 3 and Alien 4 were very underwhelming.....
As for aliens infesting the earth - that would be very cool - I remember reading an Aliens comic of the earth being overrun by aliens - which was flipping awesome, but I have a feeling that in AVP the heroes save the earth from the alien menace in another crazy way, ending with an explosion + alien queen :P - Yea even if it doesent link with any other alien / pred movie.
Actually that was cool in AVP1 how Weyland (didnt spell it right methinks) Corp. was in it, as well as Bishop / Mr. Weyland was leading the exhibition methinks!

It's in that new CGI mix trailer. That's Dunn in black space throughout the entire trailer. There's just this new "uber l337" fad of characters in tv, film and video games that turn to look at the audience before he/she fades out or something. It's just so WTF it's not cool. Recent one I remember is in Chris Brown's "Wall to Wall" where one of the black Vampire guys does a split second turn and looks into the camera. There and then I knew it's been done to death.
Ah well. I'm nitpicking lol.
Personally I thought it'd be cooler if Dunn just stayed with his back turned to the camera and stood still for those few seconds. At least then you could speculate he's reflecting on something.

Lol don't know the other names you mentioned. I'll check them out, but I always heard you don't buy paintings because of who is drawing, but rather what is drawn/painted, regardless of the artist. I only know of Giger coz of Species and Alien so yeah...
I didn't mind the action packed Aliens, but a wouldn't mind a psychological scare like Alien 1. Put it in a Bioshock like environment -- a dead colony which the protagonists dont know who or what caused it. Then go for the action packed Aliens on Earth! Haha!
