[QUOTE="sts106mat"]i reckon japan will go ape for kinect. they love their technology, it will be interesting to hear how it does there more than anywhere else IMO.markinthedark

i would be all over this concept... but there is the good point that in hong kong they dont have the space. Then again Hong kong is just 1 city, so i guess the rest of japan is free to go ape.

Hong Kong isn't in Japan

Microsoft won't make a dime on Kinect until it sells over 5 million, isn't that a reasonable assessment? $500 million in advertising, plus cost per unit and retail/shipping....hard to say what the profit margins without knowing what goes into it, but obviously it's gotta be less than half the cost per unit. Even at $100 profit per unit, which is obscene, they would need to sell $500 million before they recouped their advertising, let alone R&D costs. That's not counting software, though. 1 million units shipped worldwide is I guess good. Hopefully they have a good Christmas. The holidays just might be kind to them. One problem with Kinect and Move is that they can't be tested in stores, which accounts for so much of the broad appeal of the Wii IMO.Brownesque
they prob already made it back with 60$ xbl cards!

Yeah I think im thinking clearly hahaha its a big failure man BIG....

Again, thanks for the humility. I underestimated you.

The initial sales accounted for every pre-order since the Kinect was announced. Week one is by far the largest single week for sales for a product with $500 million marketing behind it, and it's all downhill from here. I'm sure you understand that.

So, post that gamertag! Friend request incoming!

kinect will sell more next month and the months of tax return season. thats the months ps3 has its best months when it was high in price.

Do Fanboys not get it? Kinect is on track to sell 5 million by the end of the year, which is exactly what MS predicted. Are people seriously saying MS failed because it didn't totally outsell Move on day one? Thats completely absurd. Headstart does not matter, but cows are seriously trying to say Kinect failed because it didn't selll 5 million in one day? 500 million dollar advertising is not a negative, but a positive no matter how badly cows want to spin it. MS wants to support their product, while Sony just wanted to cash in on the casuals and do a quick Wii clone. They tried with sixaxis and didnt support it so it is virtually useless, and now cows are going LESS RISK/HIGH REWARD SONY DA GENIUS!!!!!!!!! This is the most hilarious damage control ive seen in a very long time. Get over it a piece of technology is going to succeed big time, and your posts in SW will not change that. MS cannot win in this situation with fanboys. If it sells DA 500 MILLION, if it doesnt HA HA DA 500 million is da useless WE WANT MORE GAMES!!!!!!!!!.

Here are the facts.

1 million in 10 days in US, 6 in EU, Zero in Japan

Try and spin it all you want, but System Wars=/ real world. People genuinely enjoy Kinect and like the games.

Yes. http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/playstation-move2.htm

"The PlayStation Eye is a USB camera that plugs into the PlayStation 3 system and captures video at a resolution of 640x480 at 60 frames per second."

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/microsoft-kinect.htm/printable

Color VGA video camera - This video camera aids in facial recognition and other detection features by detecting three color components: red, green and blue. Microsoft calls this an "RGB camera" referring to the color components it detects.
Depth sensor - An infrared projector and a monochrome CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensor work together to "see" the room in 3-D regardless of the lighting conditions.
Multi-array microphone - This is an array of four microphones that can isolate the voices of the players from the noise in the room. This allows the player to be a few feet away from the microphone and still use voice controls.

A further look at the technical specifications for Kinect reveal that both the video and depth sensor cameras have a 640 x 480-pixel resolution and run at 30 FPS (frames per second).

I thought Justin Bieber and Oprah would have made Kinect sell more? Oh well. 500 million dollars have been pretty much wasted.

Pretty much, watch GT5 sale millions in that same time frame with not even close to that marketing budget.

I like how when Move's million in Europe or whatever story is out people are all "those numbers are shipped, not sold".

Well that goes both ways.

I wonder how many they have to sell just to recoup the cost of advertising. Oh well, that's what Live fees are for.

the reason 360 has been beating everyone is because the 360 boxes have been saying kinect ready on them. so unknowing ppl thought kinect was in the box. even the kinect system bundles are all sold out in my home town. and its only gonna get worse as we get closer to xmas. kinect will help 360 win xmas 2010. thats pretty much a given....

Why are you comparing GT5 with Kinect? I would really want to know why would someone make such an absurd comparision.

So we are comparing a £125 Experimental Peripheral to a £40 piece of software that has been around in previous forms for years? Not really fair is it. This applies to all of you.... in what a week its sold 1 million ... a £125 periperal and an impressive home-entertainment device in comparison to waggle sticks with considerable more functionality in the long run? System Wars...

Let's clarify this for everyone. I'm going to make it really simple.

When a compnay like Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft says that they sold something, it means they shipped something to retailers. This is why: Retailers need to buy the item that the retailers are going to sell, before they sell it to the consumers (us). Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have to legally count those as "sales" because they have to report that to the IRS at the end of each quarter and year. It's because they have already made their money.

However, when retailers like Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Fry's Electronics, GameStop say sold, it means they sold it directly to the consumers. This is because we (the consumers) are the final people to buy it. Even this can get confusing. Sometimes retailers buy from each other because one runs out of stock, while the other has too many. This results in some units being sold as double, because both retailers have to claim sold numbers.

If you guys want more accurate sold to consumer numbers, then you have to look to the retailers. NOT analyst reports, NOT company reports. They just don't tell specifically what you guys are arguing about.

If you need further clarification, just let me know.

What everyone else tells you is wrong. It stands for "Little Old Ladies".

Actually it is short for "laughing out loud". It just means you are laughing.
