""The next-generation Xboxthe one that will follow the still-popular Xbox 360will run multiple games at once, require game installations, and will only work when a much-improved version of the popular but divisive Kinect sensor array is plugged in, according to a source who says he has access to development hardware. Those are a just a few details about the new console, codenamed Durango, that were shared with us by a person with access to next-gen information. Our source also claims to have a pair of Durango development kits."" http://kotaku.com/5982986/we-know-all-about-the-next-xbox-from-someone-who-says-theyve-got-one I figure the other was close because of the level 7 poster,if not excuse me mods and close it. Now into the good stuff. No specs change. Mandatory Kinect all the time, plug in or no game. Mandatory installs (my favorite) One of the most hated PS3 features by xbox fans, but now on all games. This doesn't paint good.tormentos
I bet you loved the other thread was closed just so you could spread more BS rumors.
How much is this thing gonna cost? I doubt they can even undercut the PS4 given it's going to have to be bundled with an improved Kinect which is surely going to push costs up.hoosier7It will be much cheaper than a gym card and with Kinect you can do all your training at home.
[QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"][QUOTE="Kingpin0114"]Like I said, yours was unfortunately a much more informative OP :P Well mods can close this one and leave his open i don't mind. Whats done is done. Might help if you put a bit more info in yours though. I still think that the rumour is lulz worthy if hes saying theres going to be that big a graphical leap.beat me to it lol

Our source even claims to have played some Durango games, describing the graphical leap from current-gen console gaming like going from playing Halo 2 on an original Xbox to playing Crysis on a powerful PC.
KINECT
"Perhaps most importantly, this isn't an optional accessory. It's mandatory. Not only does a Kinect ship with every console, but it must be plugged in and calibrated for the console to even function."
Storage and Installs
"That drive is 500GB in size, which should be enough for your media storage needs, but it'll mostly be used for games, which must now be installed immediately upon first insertion of the game disc. What's more, this installation can take place automatically, while you're playing the game. Durango titles can be designed in "sections," so that you can pop your disc in, start playing and, in the background, the rest of the game will install. Installing games should bring performance improvements, we think, but doing so in the background should also get rid of pre-game install waits, one of the more annoying hold-ups of the current generation of consoles. Durango game installations will also be mandatory, as games can't directly access data from the disc.
Game Juggling
"The Durango will be able to run more than one game or app at once, according to the information shared with us" "The Durango is said to also allow games to be put into "suspend" and "constrained" states, which seemingly allow users to pause a game, switch to a second game, then return to the first game without losing their place, provided game developers follow some Microsoft protocols"
Controller
The Durango's control pad will be a "natural evolution" of the Xbox 360's pad, according to SuperDaE's info. While this suggests a near-identical layoutnot necessarily a problem considering the cross-platform popularity of the layout with the PCXbox 360 controllers won't work with the Durango, as they use what Microsoft is calling a "new wireless technology."
SPECS are the same as the ones leaked from other sites so I am not sure what that SuperDae was tallking about on his twitter. Guess he was lying.
Inb4 Tessellation. clyde46He won't come, his lemming pride has been hurt by Kotaku. Of ALL the sites, Kotaku. Guess that's when you have to admit you've hit rock bottom.

Would like to see this in action.

Great, MS is doing an Apple. Got to rebuy all those controllers.

I knew it.

The information about mandatory installs and game juggling is interesting. The ability to install while the game is running is an interesting idea. Â The game juggling could give credence to the no used game rumor. Â Since if installs are mandatory, and you have the ability to go between two games at once, I would guess that you don't need a disc in the drive to play. Â So microsoft would probably want to prevent used games so players couldnt just install a game on the hard drive, then sell the disc to be used again.
Please tell me you didn't just quote someone called "sexpiss steve" :|Mass production= Free??

"Our source even claims to have played some Durango games, describing the graphical leap from current-gen console gaming like going from playing Halo 2 on an original Xbox to playing Crysis on a powerful PC." Yea I'm sorry that source is about as reliable as a tub of yogurt left to sit out in the sun all day ...blue_hazy_basic
What a comparison
This. The PS Vita does the same already so i'm wondering whether it's a feature we'll see make the jump to the PS4 too though, i'm also a tad surprised Sony hasn't got this patented to prevent MS doing it?I like the Game Juggling info. Sounds pretty neat. That's the only part I liked though.

If you believe it then it sounds like a graphics monster. I just don't believe its true. Besides who really cares about running multiple games/apps on a console? The only exception might be running a browser or something, but i'd rather use a computer or even my phone than clunk around on a console.I like the Game Juggling info. Sounds pretty neat. That's the only part I liked though.

Really? I have never wanted to pause a game to start playing another one :|. Don't get under what circumstance you would want to do that.I like the Game Juggling info. Sounds pretty neat. That's the only part I liked though.

My brother and I have a lot of friends that like to come play games so I think it would be pretty cool that me and bro can just pause and then just easily flip to another game when a group of friends come over.
My friend has a Vita and it has something similar to this so I am hoping Sony does this too, along with being able to open the internet browser.

I don't think Sony invented this feature. Cell phones have been doing this for awhile.

Why? We're talking about an ~8 year hardware gap -- even if MS focuses on affordability over pure horsepower, that's still going to be a huge performance improvement (the 360 hardware is verging on smartphone/tablet territory these days; it's not going to take a whole lot for the Xbox 3 to blow it out of the water).
Furthermore I think what you have to remember is that PC gaming has been pretty stagnant on the graphics front since, well, Crysis, so it creates this false sense of "well, if a high-end gaming rig can only do X, how could a $300-$400 console do X+Y?" It's not that they're bullsh*tting about how powerful a new console could be (particularly when you consider the inherent advantage of being able to target a single hardware spec -- case in point, that 8 year old 360 can still turn out some surprisingly purdy graphics), it's that the high-end rig been limited to playing games designed to run at max settings on two-plus-year old midrange hardware.Â

I guess. At the same time quitting a game and then start it again takes a couple of minutes tops. Rarely in modern games do you lose any progress. When your friends come over you'll likely play for an hour or two? Having the other game paused in the background all that time seems unnecessary to me. But what do I know :PPlease Log In to post.
