[QUOTE="XL83"]Regarding online, a lot of people still aren't big on it because of the online communities and the faceless scum that they can attract. I can play any game online and have fun until I hear some lisping jackass yelling "HAHA PWNED ****ING ****ER!!" in a prepubescent voice. Online gaming sans headsets is the only way to go, unless you're playing with friends. TyrantDragon55
You know you can mute people like that in games like GeoW right?
I've played enough online games to know that if I followed this practice, I would spend more time ignoring and muting people than I would playing the game. I just don't have any desire to share my gaming time with people I wouldn't even spit on IRL. I still play online games, but I know a lot of people who hate these communities so much that they prefer to play offline.
I'll take 12 hours of amazing gaming over 30 hours of repetitive wackness.
But a game like this probably should have had multiplayer. Seems very appropriate for this kind of game.

You must have really rushed through RE4, it took me about 16 hours and I've heard as high as 20 for some people. RE4 also has a bunch of extras to keep you interested long after you finish the story mode the first time.

How does any one here know if multiplayer will even work with this type a game? It was assumed from the beginning that Bioshock would have muiltplayer because of the FPS element but then the Devs came out and said it would not work with the game.

Good points, aside from Resistance. I think you'd really have to rush Resistance to beat it in 12 hours, let alone 10. It was actually a pretty lengthy shooter on Normal difficulty.

It could have been solely flying. Like a Crimson Skies or some such. They could have MADE it work if they wanted to. If they really wanted to. But it undoubteldy wasn't in the plans.
wtf are you talking about? this game does have online.....ddldave
I wish you were right, but according to the interview I read with Eggebrecht a few weeks ago, it won't have an online component.
Anyway, I hope this game lasts at least 20 hours, and I also hope they do decide to add some kind of multiplayer mode, even if its just FPS-style matches like deathmatch, assault, etc. on the same maps from the campaign. I would accept a rather lengthy delay if it meant this game was everything it could possibly be.
Not only is the game this short, but the jaggies hurt my eyes. I mean, Lair has nice backgrounds, but the dragons and soldiers are jaggies heaven. The soldiers on Rome:Total War on the PC, a game a few years old has better looking soldiers than Lairs "Royal Jaggies Soldiers".
This game is gonna flop, and keep people from buying a PS3.

Those were the days when online multiplayer wasn't as important to console games as it is now. Those were also the days when games were $50, not $60.
And you're forgetting that online multiplayer has only been important to xbox console gamers as most of the single player campaigns on our xbox games have sucked. It has always been very feasible to make a solid game without any online whatsoever. NG is still my favorite game on the xbox with KOTOR as my close second. Neither of these games had online. GOW II, Prince of Persia, DMC, MGS... the list goes on. Because truthfully, this is really nothing new and lemmings are making a bunch of noise about nothing right now.

It used to be feasable to release a game without some kind of story too. You have to understand that expectations change over time.
*edit: oh, and if online play only matters to X Box gamers, explain the success of the SOCOM series.

20 hours for this kind of game.....not going to happen.I'll if they say 10-12,it'll take me 13-16,thats cool with me.I don't rush through games. This is the first time I will ever say something about lemmings. Learn to listen and read, because I'm getting tired of this. It will take the game 10-12 to beat the first time. In order to add replay value, they will give you certain achievements (ie trophies), for getting gold medals. The medal system will improve your attacks on ground, in air, and air close combat. From what Factor 5 has done before, there will obviously be some secret level, for beating and gaining all the medals. In order to gain all the medals will take you around most likey 20-30 hours. Online Leaderboards for each level will make the replay value even higher.
I wonder what stupid remakrs come out of you fanboys sometimes. It is certain that a game like geow, if you beat the singleplayer, will take you around 4-6 hours. You could IGNORE every other replay values for the game and include for it being short. You could state that GEOW is 4 hours long! Lemmings are pwnzored, and ignore the fact that it has infinite replay value due to online gameplay.

with leaderboards it will give this game more then enough replay value. lemmings are really grasping here. most games these days are no longer then 10-20(if your lucky) hours. only games that go over this limit are usually just rpgs. as game developers know most consumers dont like games longer then this.

I think that's the problem for you at least, if you can't see the jaggies, then time to get a new screen. Anybody with half a good monitor can see the countless jaggies on all charater models. The soldiers espicially have the jaggies disease. Nice backgrounds though, if you like looking at rocks all days, not much for any trees and grass.

Yeah, it is. Admittedly, I beat it on Casual First, but I beat it on the same night I bought it....and still mananged to catch a movie with buddies that same night. IT WAS SHORT.

Lemmings are grasping? I thought the only substantial knock cows could come up with against Gears was the short single player? If 10-20 hours is the average for a game these days, that would make Gears...AVERAGE, and not ridiculously short, as so many like to claim. As to the people saying that Gears will take you less than 3 hours...Please. I'm assuming you were one of the game testers working for Epic, and so had mastered the game by the time it came out? Because otherwise, 3 hours is a ridiculous claim. I remember when I first beat the original Metal Gear Solid, it took me 10-15 hours, and then on the next couple play throughs, I got it down to 3 or 4. After a few playthroughs of Super Metroid (one of the best games ever), I beat that game in less than 3 hours (to get the best ending). Just because you can beat a game in 3 hours after practice doesn't mean that's how long a game takes to be beaten by the average gamer playing it. Try this: Pick up a game you've never played (a relatively difficult one), and play on the hardest difficulty. It's not that easy, is it? Yet if you beat that game on the easier difficulties, suddenly it becomes easier to beat the hardest one as well.

Well, It's EPIC fault. Whenever I play Halo I start on Legendary or Heroic(ONe to Two notches above the Regular setting), and I usually do start on the default setting or one notch above.
But EPIC named the difficulties :
Casual
Hardcore
Insane.
Hardcore sounds HARD (When it isn't, it's quite easy, but how could I know. If they had called it MEDIUM, and called Casual EASY, then I would have picked Hardcore. In fact, Why was Casual the Default Difficulty, as it is EXTREMELY EASY. I don't know what they were thinking, but my guess is they were trying to sell the game to New Gamers. Either way, blame them, since I went with the standard difficulty.)

well, but i think one fact is:
scores nowadays aren't affected very much by the game's longevity. and i don't like it.
Dev's always over state game length by around 2 hours for standard games like Lair.
So expect a 8-10 hour game.
