Okay so here we go. I'm either very confused or I just don't understand what the big deal of this game is outside of creating levels. Because I really don't see it.
I see a platformer. That really isn't anything special gameplay wise other then jumping around.
- What else can you do besides Jump?
- Are there any special abilities or anything different you can do besides jump?
- Where the hell are the enemies?
I'm really just not seeing anything other then a platformer with shallow gameplay ran through a cheesy obstacle of fan service.
I am still going to try this game when it comes out. The way so many people talk about it I have to. It just must be my misunderstanding of the concept. Because as I see it, its just a shallow platformer with a severe lack of gameplay mechanics.
Make a level that looks cheesey (sorry guys but most of the levels I see look corny and cheesy like the Halo level. Please if anyone knows of any good ones PM me or post them for because I want to see) walk from point A to point B. No enemies in between. I'm sure there are enemies but I never see any of them.
To sum it up. Gameplay is most important to me especially in a 2D platformer and this game just severely lacks heavily imo.

If all the user-levels you've seen are just the fanservice-y ones, it's no surprise that you're unimpressed. Most of them, from the videos I've seen, are pretty terrible.
There are definitely better ones out there. You can take a look at the giant monster level created at the Parsons competition for one example. Hollow Bastion is pretty cool, and does a good job of creating a creepy atmosphere. I also think that this Shadow of the Colossus level does well at recreating the game's tone (even if it could use a bit more music). And this Human Body level seems very cool in its numerous branching paths that have different scoring opportunities.
LittleBigPlanet isn't the most complex game out there. Your abilities, in the game world, are limited to jumping and grabbing. But I don't think that's a huge issue. In Bionic Commando, all you have is your grappling arm. In N+, you can only jump and cling to walls. What matters is how the levels require those abilities to be utilized. Many user levels won't do a good job of it, because most people aren't level designers. But some will, and those will be the ones that people will play when they get the game.
Also, there are enemies. Heck, one demonstration from Media Molecule included a boss fight.
Hopefully, I'll be able to get my hands on a beta key, and then I'll actually be able to give first-hand impressions, instead of conjecture.
EDIT: One of the cool things about LittleBigPlanet is the way that physics are implemented into the game. It's a hard thing to appreciate until you see levels that put this into action. This short balloon level shows one interesting application. It also demonstrates how you can create devices that can extend the Sackboy's suite of abilities.
