Can you tell us your idea.
My idea for a level is this: I would like to make a level with a bunch of black and white objects everywhere. Checkerboards, floors, balls, anything you can think off. The black areas would feature really happy and joyous things while the white areas would feature dark things (though obviously not anything pertaining to death). I'd want to make it so that the objects and backgrounds all differ from one another to create an incredibly odd mix of black and white shades. The end area, where you beat the game, would be in contrast to the other parts. Everything would be colorful and heavily stylized. I'm not sure how long it would take me to do this, but I would really like a chance to do so.That was my email. I made up a really artsy level on the fly because that usually seems to impress. :P
I'm going to get my hands on this juggernaut of fun called LBP beta within 48 hours. My comment was in the 900s out of a 1000 on the LittleBigPlanet.com comment contest. Hopefully I'll get it by tomorrow.
The atmosphere is great, and it's impressive that you can alter the theme of littlebigplanet so vastly, but the platforming itself was easy and boring to watch. I just hope we can get some levels with the perfect balance of difficulty and atmophere.I know this was posted earlier, but It's so fantastic I wanted to post it again.
Hollow Bastion
Really goes to show that with enough work you can actually change the mood and atmosphere of a level. While LBP is usually a very cute and cuddly game, this level actually produces a creepy feel despite all of that - It's really impressive.

Okay I watched that and still I'm not seeing anything in the gameplay department. Its like I said. Transverse fanservice create a level by walking and jumping.
There are no enemies there are no abilities other then jumping.
What is this game showing in the gameplay factor that other platformers do not have?
To be fair, you can also grab objects and swing on them (which admittedly isn't fundimentally different from standing on platforms and timing your jumps across, but it is still adds some diversity I guess).Oridinally, platformers stick to basic jump mechanics on intricately designed levels, and of course some special powerups change it up a little (by tweaking the jumping mechanics). In general, I think that the creativity of the level design, and the pacing, is usually what separates the mediocre platformers from the excellent (in addition to fine-tuned controls that don't add unneccessary frustration).
LittleBig planet has fantastic style and charm, I'll give it that, but what I am not seeing from littlebigplanet is the difficulty and the adrenaline-style pacing of most great 2d platformers, like the DKC series, or the 2d mario titles. The lack of powerups (is the jetpack the only one?) also means taht ultimately its just going to be the same two mechanics repeated over and over again with the only difference being purely cosmetic.
Now a quick question for beta tester and general public?
What is the difference between the beta and the final build?
What do you expect to see?
I don't have any idea cause I'm not in the beta :(
Giancar
Beta doesn't have the full story, and there is a set limit of levels you can publish.
I expect in-game music, bigger space to work with (for some reasons I always reach the limits on my maps...)

There are anti-gravity items already in it.

Oh well I guess I forgot to include that point in my post too. From what I have seen, LittleBigPlanet's bosses are gimmicky contraptions that throw stuff at you, and largely remain static otherwise. None of them interact in a interesting way, and that means they are going to be easy and boring (if not at least amusing for the first few minutes).Don't get me wrong though, I think LBP looks fun, and being a creative person myself, I could see wasting hours coming up with new levels and crazy contraptions for my own personal amusement and the personal joy of others (hopefully). Ultimately, having a deep diverse level creator does not excuse a game's limited, simple gameplay. LBP does not seem as excellent as what most here are hyping it to be, and that's why I have made it a point to question it's hype level.
Yeah, It's pretty freaking great. :)[QUOTE="NAPK1NS"][QUOTE="lantus"]Oh my God, I'm F'ing blown away by the beta. I can't wait to start creating my level tomorrow! :Dsam280992
I'm so jealous...
Just wait, when the final game ships it will be even better. I'm kind of sad because I wanted to play the game for the first time when I pick it up, but nonetheless, this beta has completely reassured me that my money was well spent pre-ordering it. :D

I am pleased to hear that. Can't wait for Oct 21st!
[QUOTE="Espada12"]I agree with blackbond.. don't see what is special at all. It's basically Super Mario World where you can build your levels and minus coopas!Blackbond
No Super Mario World had.....
Little Big Planet has....
Jumping...?
Jet packs.
The ability to grab onto objects
You can drive cars
You can move all body parts individualy
head smash
Want anymore???
I was very excited for this before, but recently with the beta out and seeing some stuff my interest has declined. Just moves too slow...
But my friend had gotten me a beta key, so I will be downloading it this evening and possibly trying it out then. If I don't like it, maybe I'll buy Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia or FarCry 2 instead or something. I think I'll love it in the end. :)
I got my hands on a beta key last night, and I've spent some good time with the game.
However it looks in videos, the controls feel pretty responsive. Grabbing onto things and swinging around is very fun. And the title just oozes charm, almost effortlessly. The presentation is spot-on, from the narrator to the Sackboy's facial expressions to the cardboard pod to the really great soundtrack. Playing it, it's hard not to like it.
The story levels that exist in the beta are only tutorials, but they're well put together, and there are tons of objects and items scattered throughout that you can use for your levels, your pod, or your sackboy. And finding all of these objects is no easy task.
I need to try more user-levels before I can comment on them. I've played one of the better ones, but I can't judge them all off of that. Need to try more random stuff later.
All in all, it's very, very fun to play, beyond random issues related to it being a beta, and stuff involving the instability of my internet connection when run on a PS3. I'm really looking forward to the full release.

Further impressions:
I spent a little time in the 'build' mode. There's a great series of tutorials that walk you through all the functions. It's very easy to follow, and with every tutorial you do, you unlock more items to use in the game, which is a good encouragement to keep going. All the functions are pretty easy to wrap your head around mechanically, and they aren't hard to do. So making a level is pretty straightforward. Getting everything just right, though, can be a bit more of a task. Still, I was impressed, and at some point, I'll try to put something worthwhile together.
Playing more user levels was interesting. They can be kinda hit or miss. Some are very clever, with unique challenges and clever uses of the game's mechanics. Others are little more than tech demos. And some just aren't that well made. But because the base mechanics are sound, they're usually fun to go through. I've seen a lot of different kinds of levels, and I'm curious to see what else people come up with in the final game.
All in all, it's met all my expectations, and I had them set pretty high.

I'm still waiting for my beta code email from LittleBigPlanet.com 1000 comment contest, I'm in the 900s. Anyway, I'm glad I'll have a chance to play this master piece. I hope they also have a demo and I believe if you get that demo it'll have enough content to keep you entertain for the rest of October and you don't have to buy the full game at all.
