This game has the potential to become the most important game Sony has ever published (beyond even Gran Turismo) given the current circumstances if they play it right. No joke.
The reason it could be is if they pack it in (for free) at the end of next year with every system purchased in every territory (for at least a couple of years) ..... and that will go along nicely with a cheaper ps3 at that time.
All of that time before that happens it going to a hardcore gamers' darling , a critical hit , youtube sensation for gamers , a million seller at least after 6 months , and a great word of mouth title because of those things ...... but the price of the ps3 is still a bit high and a certain amount of 15-35 male bravado demographic of the current userbase will keep people away from it so it won't become a Mario type of icon mass market game , without help from Sony.
Sony has a chance to make the whole world aware of it by bundling ever system with it whether they really want the game or not like a Wii Sports , and let them and their families experience it first hand and let it spread even more into general society and make LBP a platform seller in that regard. This is the kind of E for everyone type of game that truly lives up to that rating and then some.
Sony should do everything they can to support Media Molecule along the way , and those purchasable character offerings are going to be a huge cash cow for them no doubt at the right price , and I could see them taking it further with other types of DL content along those lines. They could incorporate a LittleBigStore tab on the network.
The big question is now .... will Sony actually handle it in this manner or will they treat it just like Motorstorm and Uncharted and just leave it at that ? What would you do if you were them , and how do you think they will handle it ?
