How is it minor?

If the game focuses on creativity, and LBP allows for a higher level of creativity (you don't just plop things down you construct and make them) then isn't it a pretty big deal for LBP?

Do any games have a level editor with a focus on creativity like THAT?

hakanakumono

Yes, Garrys Mod.

That's a mod, not a prepackaged game.

Excite Bike on the NES. God knows how many hours I lost on that game. Good times, good times.

So ???

Does it have too be a retail game too count ?

It has to be a console platformer to count, imo.

It's taking console platformers to a new height, which hasn't been done before.Thats why its innovative, not because its never been done before in another genre on another format catering to a different audience.

lollololol! These kind of games belong on the Wii... and I thought the PS3 at least had some dignity... I was wrong, this just further proves that Xbox 360 is THE better console

This. Its funny how Halo fanboys always bring up "Gary's Mod".

Funny how a mod has the same scope and functionality of a full game eh? LBP is nothing innovative or special, it's a gary's mod for consoles.

Al3x_n90

I didn't ask for fanboy's and bashers thoughts. You would of known that if you payed attention to the my first post in the topic. If your going to bash a game then you might as well leave.

So I'm a fanboy for saying the game is overhyped and done before? Yeah that makes sense...

Well we can't know for certain that LBP is overhyped until it comes out, then if it scores AAA it will live up to the hype :D

Halo 3 scored AAA and everyone says that is overhyped...

But i think it's just silly not including PC & Downloadable games.

Can you combine materials to make new things in Halo 3?

Haku_Ryushi
What so you mean by that ???

Example ?

Go to youtube and look up some LBP vids. Too lazy to go look for some.

LBP is only going to be as good as a player is creative, not anyone can design maps, and judging by how dumb cows seem to be these days, something tells me they aren't going to enjoy the game as much as Sony keeps telling them they will.

Thats why there are 50 levels included plus the ability to play other people's created levels online. Stop bashing the game. This isn't what i wanted when i created the topic. I wanted a nice discussion.

If you create a topic that praises an exclusive, chances are haters and fanboys will be quick to sling mud at it, even if your topic isn't intended to attack them or their system . That's to be expected.

If its an innovative platformer its an innovative game by definition.

However, its not like you're either 100% innovative or not innovative at all. The truth is what LBP HAS been done before in the said mod. So its not like the 2nd coming of chris in bluray format. And its certainly not taking "next-gen gaming to the next level."

But its doing something new with platformers and it does deserve credit for that.

hakanakumono

True! But we could start a philosophical discussion about it!

The definition an "innovative game" could imply that a game is doing something that no game has done before, but, as we know, the "innovative platformer" only innovates in the platformer genre, so it can be said that it is not an "innovative game" because it presents things that have be done countless of time before in many games.

This is a discussion about LBP. If you had wanted to praise LBP, you should have gone to the game's forums instead of SW. In System Wars, we debate about things. Fact is, LBP is about editing and creating levels. You're saying it's the new level of next gen gaming when in fact it has been done before.

Gary's mod is not a Halo 3 mod.

Since LBP was being touted and innovative and taking gaming to the next level, a comparison to Gary's mod to show that it's features have been implemented elsewhere is valid.

There are games that allow for considerably more creativity that anything we've seen out of LBP.

Namely, Blizzard's RTSes. I can practically guarantee that there will be many more legitimately creative maps made with Starcraft 2 than LBP, yet no one even mentions it...

Go do some research my friend before you post. Just giving a friendly advice. But just so you could get the memo, you don't just edit you CREATE. Not flaming, just providing some friendly info ;)

Haku_Ryushi

I know but it's basically the same. You have a Level and you can put/take away objects wherever you want. Using Forge on an empty Foundry basically = Using the Map Maker in LBP.

Also, new contendant : Far Cry 2. Just remembered the Vid of the Map Maker in it.

Omg...When you create the level. Its BLANK, theres nothing there, zero, nada. You create from pure scratch, you dont edit.

...like any other level creator.

This. Its funny how Halo fanboys always bring up "Gary's Mod".

Yes it does. Mods dont count. Stop being a Halo fanboy. Please. Your ruining the whole thread now.

This makes it apparent that you don't know what Garry's Mod is or how amazing it can be. It's also a great example of the fact that even when given all the tools, most people do nothing with them. It's the downfall of user content. Most users won't make anything good, but will instead wait around for someone else to make something good for them.

Then every PC game with a map editor should be re-reviewed and goty,LBP fanboys make it sound like it haven't been done before..MojondeVACA

A map editor is completely different. They're generally complex, difficult to use, have no distribution service, and serve as a supplementary feature to the actual game. With LBP the level editor is the game. It's meant to be used by everyone, hence it being easy to use and having the online distribution service built-in.

You can combine things to make things in LBP. Like a ... sombrero car. But you have to attach everything like you would in the real world (nails, glue, etc).

(In an article that stated that LBP wouldn't be user friendly enough, a tester made a sombrero car.

I believe you can also cut out shapes to make things and stuff but I'm not sure.

That's where most people lose the arguement since LBP main gameplay isn't editing

LittleBigPlanet is not innovative. If creating custom levels is innovative then PC gaming innovated that element back in the late 80's. LittleBigPlanet is purely building on an already popular trend, custom content, and is in no way "innovative" nor "next-gen to a new level." A game like Dead Rising is far more innovative and "next-gen to a new level" because a lot of the stuff done in the game hasn't been done before this generation.

That's not to say LBP is going to be fun... but calling it something it definitely isn't doesn't help it when it's trying to add to an already large niche.

You fail in my eyes for calling LBP next-gen...

omgimba
I highly doubt the level of detail and physics in LBP could be matched on a last-gen console. Don't be fooled just because its a side scroller.

ZZZ.. calling a game disgraceful, kiddie, a piece of crap, and generalizing the wii is for 5 year olds.. Just shows what kind of gamer you are:roll:. Let me guess, you're a guru in gaming amiright?
