That's...exactly what I thought of Uncharted 2 so I decided to not play another game in the series. It seems like I'm better off so far.

@ConanTheStoner:
It wasn't an observation about SW.
Well your initial response to the thread doesn't do anything to tell us that.
And your follow up post was definitely about SW.
If you meant something else entirely, then it certainly got lost in translation. Sorry.
I feel we're not on the same page here, but I really wasn't trying to argue with you. I just got irked by that comment about you not being entitled to an opinion.
UC4 is an action-adventure, not some wannabe simulator.
Ah Action-Adventure... the great translation to "mindless".
Come now, I enjoy the Pirate Treasure hunting theme it had going for but other then that, that's really it. I don't even brag about the game that much and I still prefer UC2 then UC4 to say the least.
@dynamitecop: I'm not quadknight ya fool, don't even bother me Dynamitecop.
I mean, you did say FEAR was a wannabe Crysis tho.
We worry for you sometimes.
@ConanTheStoner:
"And your follow up post was definitely about SW."
No, it wasn't.
"If you meant something else entirely, then it certainly got lost in translation. Sorry."
That's what happens when people forgo discussion and jump to conclusions.
That's what happens when people forgo discussion and jump to conclusions.
Oh, the extreme irony on display here.
Ok, let's do this.
-
Your initial response to the thread was this:
The dedication to hating this game and others like no mans sky, the order 1886 and knack is impressive.
So ok. Context. If I just randomly pop up in an active thread and say "God I wish people weren't so fucking stupid", chances are that people in the thread will assume I'm talking about one of them, rightfully so.
You show up to a thread where people are expressing dislike for aspects of Uncharted and you say what you said. Ok. So we're supposed to assume that you're not talking about the thread or even SW in general? You just happened to drop in this thread of all threads to say that, but "oops, sorry guys, it wasn't about you". Right.
But ok, we're still assuming that had nothing to do with SW. Yet...
"And your follow up post was definitely about SW."
No, it wasn't.
Ok, so you're saying that this follow up post:
Very little intelligence involved on forum posts about which console or its exclusives owns the other.
Wasn't about SW or its users? Not at all?
Nah. Bull. Shit.
-
I was trying to let this slide and be cool about it, but you're just too full of it buddy.
And having the gall to say "That's what happens when people forgo discussion and jump to conclusions" is straight up hilarious when you're the only one here who has been doing exactly that. Right from your first post in this thread as a matter of fact.
wow...WOW did he really say that??
@ConanTheStoner: I didn't know that thread was necro :(
lol
@ConanTheStoner:
I didn't say anyone was stupid when I posted my original thoughts.
What you display is all your own.
In fact I said it was impressive.
Edit:
yeah, my follow up was not about SW. I'm genuinely surprised you think what I said is exclusive to this gaming forum.
Edit, edit: you also leave off that I include myself in that thought. I assume because you're angry.
and in the middle of it you get a 2 hour flashback of little drake exploring (by exploring I mean walking slowly) of a hag's mansion who happens to be a friend of drake's contrived mother.
I really liked U4 but I actually couldn't believe they put that in. It was mind-numbing, much worse than any complaints people might have about the climbing (hilarious though it may be that someone who hates games with climbing would choose to play an Uncharted game). So do I really have to go through literally everything in this house till I find the ONE thing you want me to find to push the story on? Crazy shit.
It was still an excellent game though it took its time to get going. Not the best Uncharted but a good way to end the series. I can see why people got annoyed with the endless interactions between Nathan and co being boosted up via a conveniently placed box or crate but it didn't ruin the game for me.
Comparing Uncharted to Tomb Raider on this forum is completely pointless as cows will say Uncharted is best and lems will say Tomb Raider just to hate on Uncharted (they have to pick a multiplat as Xbox has literally nothing of its own lol). As I am neutral in this ridiculous scenario I am well placed to give an honest, definitive assessment of the games in question. I judge thusly...

I only left it off because it's irrelevant to the point. It makes no difference.

Ah, there it is. Thank you.
Confirmed troll/shit poster.
The worst part of the campaign was the fake tale told by Sam about their prison escape. It was fabricated, yet we had to act out his lie.
There's filler, and then there's this new level of trying to extend your game in an artificial way.

My buddy spoiled it for me so I know Sam is bullshitting but I wanna know why and how Drake's gonna react. Spoilers don't bother me all that much.

You said you were "irked" by one of my comments. I assumed you still were by your continued reaction to my opinion. If not you're welcome to say that or if it feels better for you continue confirmation of nonsense.

He reacts in the pathetically typical way you might expect in a shitty clichéd video game story. Probably even your garden variety movie too.
It's obvious why he lied.

Seemed ok to me given how the game actually establishes who Sam is to Drake. What they had going on with Rafe. Typical would have been Sam being an Asshole and betraying everybody to the end then Drake kills him. His character was actually surprising given the way he looks lol. He had a typical evil brother look but they didn't go that route. Not that this is spoiler at this point but just in case

The whole Nathan Drake has a brother was really force into the game that came out of nowhere, Nathan never mentions he had a brother back in UC3 when your playing as young Nathan at the time and playing young Nathan again in UC4, I couldn't put the pieces together how it all ties to UC3. That right there bother me the most cause Nathan never address about having a brother in the past and UC4 felt force.
@ConanTheStoner: Never argue with stupid unless you have no quibbles becoming stupid yourself.
Words to live by lmao.
We can't even really say Uncharted 4 is overrated since it didn't win too many GOTY awards. It's the PlayStation fan base that acts as if it's the second coming. UC4 is a flawed game with a good story and great characters. Let's move on.

Irdfancypants always been posting in GS news article for a long time, this is the first time I seen him posting in SW, so he's kinda new to SW but never notice he's a troll until now lol.
@davillain-:
How on earth am I the one trolling in this situation?
I actually think you're reasonable on this site so I'll listen to your reasoning on this.

It's odd.
I extended my hand in friendly discussion. He pissed on it. I figured it was a simple misunderstanding and attempted to salvage the situation. He brought things down to shit poster level.
It is what it is, glad he didn't beat around the bush for too long. I now know how he is, just another user to ignore.

I meant it was cliché for Drake and the way he typically behaves when people he cares about are in danger: he's ready to turn tail and leave, but forces that be won't let him. He acted that way before.
It's a common and low-brow way to make a character become well liked in story telling, but it's very superficial and simple.
I agree with your assessment of their relationship though.
@davillain-: The game actually does good job with Sam. About as good as they can get away with it lol. Seriously though its actually handled very well gave them excuse to make the 4th game, and actually deliver the best story for Nathan Drake. Conversation with Ellena about why he never brought up Sam. Also a nice tie in, there is one conversation with UC3 villian lady. In UC3 talking to drake about his name and that ring that is so important to UC4. An excuse to say that drake hid stuff about his past on the previous games lol.
@ConanTheStoner:
This is rich. You called me dense because you didn't understand what I said but I slapped your extended hand in friendship?
@davillain-:
I don't see how me making an observation on behavior I find interesting makes me a troll.
I've been rather reasonable considering.
We can't even really say Uncharted 4 is overrated since it didn't win too many GOTY awards. It's the PlayStation fan base that acts as if it's the second coming. UC4 is a flawed game with a good story and great characters. Let's move on.
Fair enough assessment. Since it took the story or narrative awards and was considered for GOTY that should be enough achievement for the game. We should move on but also fair to tout its achievements when we discuss it.
The Last Crusades tank sequence is exciting and memorable. Although tonally light, it has a palpitate sense of danger. Regardless of knowing Indiana Jones is the hero, and will never die, knowing many of the scenes are a stunt man, not Harrison Ford, the sequence is still credible, the tank is real, the environments are real, the camera doesn't unrealistic swing around. You know risk is still in involved, it physically exists.
Comparatively, in The Crystal Skull, it has no tension. It's all a transparent illusion. Regardless of trucks cutting in half, rocket launchers being fired or Shia Labeouf dueling Cate Blanchet between vehicles, it intuitively comes across as fake - all probably done against a green screen with no real sense of danger. It's trying much harder, far more elaborate, but succeeding far less.
By the same token, Tomb Raider, even though she has a crayon drawing face with triangular titties, is far more engaging experience because the threat is credible, it requires player input to succeed, reward is rewarded, failure is chastised. Almost every moment of game-play (particularly 2) has the lingering possibly of an instant death.
Uncharted is guided with safety nets at every corner. It will pop off scripted sequences, but it's largely vacuous, with no sense of danger. Like the Crystal Skull, it's an illusion. Instead of climbing a mountain with high and low points, it is a flatly laid path, safe, convenient, but ultimately unremarkable.
All in all, I think we can agree Uncharted is an awful game, and if you enjoy it, you aren't really a gamer.
@uninspiredcup:
Essentially, Uncharted has less agency because the danger the character is facing on-screen isn't comparative with the sense of danger the player is feeling?
That's the impression I got from Uncharted 2 during the more scripted game-play scenarios.
Uncharted in a nut shell:
Everytime Drake moves or walk it looks ridiculous. It seems exaggerated and overly fake, I don't know why people praise it for animation.
and in the middle of it you get a 2 hour flashback of little drake exploring (by exploring I mean walking slowly) of a hag's mansion who happens to be a friend of drake's contrived mother.

You know what's dumb as shit? and typical video game hoetry that gets gassed up, but hur durr video games can tell a story champ even though they suck balls at it.
Nadine is built up as this fierce ass kicker the entire game, to the tune that the basic writing has to mention how much of an ass kicker she is in a cringy way (Drake will say no way can she beat up both drakes), and she absolutely handles them. She's presented as a character with her own set of mercs (which in this game is basically a private army) and has committed countless atrocities (the games words, not mine), only for her to be the one at the ending that gets to convey the message of the game about being obsessive n greedy is bad for you. When the entire time she's been built up as an obstacle for Nathan Drake.
**** that, that's completely contradictory bullshit to her place in that story. That's not subverting my expectations, that's willfully ignoring what you wrote in some false attempt to create a "strong character", except she completely breaks now when you put any thought into it. And why? so we can get dlc with the bitch.
Well, I wrote far more about it in my recent thread. No energy to rewrite much of it, but I'll just leave off here that yes, it has room to improve (many highlights of that here in this thread), but IMO it's by far the best UC.
I'd rate it as comparable to TR2013* - it's up to you to translate that relative comparison into "absolute value" according to your own guidelines. It has similar strengths and flaws, but does some things a bit better and others a bit worse, such that it comes out in the wash. IMO: better story, better set pieces and feels "larger". It is definitely a grander experience. But it is less consistent mechanically than TR2013 - in many cases lags a bit behind**. For both series, the platforming is a joke, unchallenging and if you fail it just throws you right back at it until you "QTEbetter" - I have to laugh at trying to shove TR reboot as some kind of high bar. But TR reboot does still hold the rope-work and dimensionality of the levels to a higher bar
*haven't played RotTR to go there
**played TR2013 on PC, making it hard to compare the quality of the shooting mechanics and platforming directly
Let's be honest both Tomb Raider and Uncharted are exactly the same game but with different protagonists.
Conveniently placed climbing aids which are easily sussed - check.
Waves of pointless bad guys which makes you a psychopath - check
Repeated elements from the previous games - check.
Choosing spectacular set pieces over puzzles - check.
Don't get me wrong I like and own both Tomb Raider games and all the Uncharted games but they are all copies of each other. Tomb Raider has deviated from its roots to become a shooty-bang-bang game due in part to the commercial success of Uncharted which was in turn a rip off of Tomb Raider in the first place with more commercial elements by making Drake a Harrison Ford type.
I feel like the Uncharted games are more of a gateway series than anything. It's perfect for transitioning people into this hobby. It holds a familiarity to pulp action films beloved by the masses, but gives you the novelty of interacting at some points, however restrictive it can be.
I've always considered them back seat driver experiences. You aren't actually in control and your suggestions might be enacted upon or ignored. It's not entirely up to you.
The series is not for me. I much rather be in the driver's seat.
Also, inb4 you're a butthurt lem still on suicide watch because you can't handle the greatness.
Don't forget how the residents of Mt. Pious will act like us mere mortals are out of line, and not recognizing how Uncharted 4 shows video games can be more than games. They can reach the olympian heights of being the video game equivalent of Treasure Planet.
Paging @AzatiS
Oh you jerk lol.

There's a thread on here asking people if they criticise games they have never played.
You never play games on any platform yet you slag off anything and everything on PS4. Why don't you pop in there and give your input? We're trying to identify what sort of moronic, braindead knucklehead would do such a thing and why.
Maybe you have mental health issues? We won't judge you. Anyway, your input would be invaluable. Thanks kiddo.
