Just waiting for that guy to review Modern Warfare 3 and talk about how unique, and mature, and philosophical it is.[QUOTE="DarkLink77"][QUOTE="Upparoom"]
I'm honestly not surprised it scored that way judging from the way the gameplay looked, but the reviewer seemed incredibly condescending and pretentious. I literally felt like I was reading an Armond White review :|.
Upparoom
I can see it now:
"Modern Warfare 3 is a riveting and heartbreaking adventure. Seeing a cracked piece of concrete in New York really makes you feel like you are fighting for something you believe in."
"I was moved to tears when my character, Sargeant Generic McStupidname, was savagely murdered halfway through the game, in a scripted event I had no control over. I totally didn't see it coming, and I had built such a relationship with the character that I had to turn off my Xbox (gotta have product placement in the review), and cried. True story. And then, having cried manly tears worthy of any true bro -, I mean, philosophical gamer with high standards, I returned to the action, intent on murdering those Russian scum. For America."10/10
[QUOTE="The_Capitalist"][QUOTE="DarkLink77"] We'll see. I can't wait to see what the Duke Nukem community does with it, though. You know this game is gonna be modded to hell and back.DarkLink77
The console has been locked in the full game and Gearbox plans to release at least three pieces of DLC. I doubt mod tools are coming.
I'm keeping an eye on the Duke 3D remake instead.
> Implying that after a 15 year wait, something as minuscule as a locked console will stop them.Honestly though, is there anything that is going to be worth modding? Maybe someone might mess with the physics or give Duke a new hairstyle? Why should modders use dated tech as a base for their mods when better alternatives like Source or the UDK are available?

Who knows? But they might. I guess we'll see.The recoil is just like real life! :roll:DarkLink77
Have you seen the newest trailer for MW3 where they're on the streets? Its horribly bad. At first I'm like, "...ok sounds still suck. You'd think after all that money they could afford going to a shooting range or NRA place and get some sounds for their guns." Then I'm all like "Why does the gun sound like it has a supressor? They're in a total warzone. A supressor isn't gonna do anything!." Then finally I go, "Oh wait it doesn't have a supressor...why does it sound like an airsoft rifle with one? Take that back, even airsofts have better sound effects than that." At which point I closed the video.

Graphics, sound effects, new monsters, maps, and bug fixes that Gearbox might not patch in (But bugs won't be that bad. They aren't Bethesda :) )

That stuff isn't going to happen without mod tools, though. And given that mod tools are a rarity these days, I strongly doubt we will see any from Gearbox, as that undercuts their ability to sell DLC.
This game is a dud. I'll buy it when it hits the $20 price point.

RE4 wasn't supposed to be moddable. It got ripped open so much they were able to import MW2 characters and weapons.
We don't need devs to give us mod tools. People who know how to code are all we need for mod tools :P If theres enough interest for it, its gonna get cracked open.
As much as I wanted to believe something good could come out of the travesty that was this game's stupidly long development...let's be realistic here...we all knew this was going to happen...
Who didn't see this failure actually being a failure? It's a 90s video game character with no personality with the same haircut that Jim Carrey had on Me, Myself, and Irene.
The graphics are terrible, the shooting is bad(LOL BAD AIMING DOWN THE SIGHTS, COME ON 2011 developers), and what's up with the weapons? From the videos I saw, guy doesn't have any type of modern weapons? I guess this game has been completed so long ago they didn't know of a M4 Carbine.
It'll be better than ME2, at least. And probably have more RPG elements, to boot. But hey, games with such ambition take time.As much as I wanted to believe something good could come out of the travesty that was this game's stupidly long development...let's be realistic here...we all knew this was going to happen...

This is my opinion on the upcoming storm of criticism for this game: I don't care. I didn't really expect it to be this mind blowing masterpiece, but I do think it will be fun. Even then, if it ends up being terrible, I'm still buying it day 1. Hell, I'm going to buy the Balls of Steel edition. Why? Because I want the franchise to live on, and this game is very clearly the product of a decade of development under a now dead studio. If this game sells well and 2K wants to publish another Duke Nukem, I bet a 100% made Duke with a proper development time by the guys at Gearbox would be awesome.

Meh, i agree somewhat, the game is an liner as it gets, and after two hrs, some of the jokes were getting old

Yeah... something like that is a novelty for a few hours... But you'll never be able to make custom maps without an SDK.

Yeah, about that. Fallout: New Vegas called. It wants its damn award back. Apparently it was stolen by some mediocre TPS masquerading as an RPG. I don't see why it matters so much. The people that want to enjoy it are going to enjoy it no matter what other reviewers say. Scores are just ammunition for forums and people that don't know how to properly debate. The game could have gotten a 10 across 30+ reviews and I still would feel no incentive to get the game.

Kind of sad that a game Bioware farts out still scores higher than a game in development for 15 years. Hurts deep brah

Well, the PC version is sitting at what, an 80 on MC? DNF on the PC is a 76 so far. It ain't that far off. :PLooked awful, after that demo I am surprised it even got a 5.5, I probably woulda given it a 4 at best.
Such a shame but I guess the "humor" gets old for me since I was much younger when I played the other one

It's in no way terrible, at least not the PC version. The Duke Burger chapter is some of the most fun I've had in a singleplayer FPS in years. Yes the game wasn't worth the 12 year wait, is inconsistant gameplay-wise and the visuals are crude in many aspects (though look pretty good in others), I just can't help but enjoy myself when playing it.

The thing about Duke though is that the gameplay and graphics were never really top tier stuff. Always good and playable, surely, but it was the personality that really made it stand out. Remember the Quake guy? Of course you don't :P But you remember the Duke. I expect this game to have the same type of fun and I can tell you right now I'm going to remember this game more than anything I did in any FPS for the past couple years (with the exception of Bulletstorm, maybe)
Hmm well I'm rather curious how a friend of mine will take this news.
Either he will genuinly enjoy it regardless of the review or be in total denial that it's bad.:?

They definitely take Dukes personality to the next level in this game. Whether that's a good or bad thing is up for debate (some might find it excessive), but it's definitely Duke. Also, I'd take DNF over Bulletstorm at this stage, but I haven't finished the game yet.

Well I will be finding out Tuesday!
And I'm not saying Bulletstorm was the best FPS I've played in a long time, just the most memorable. Some characters were excessive, but I liked the 3 main heroes. Hearing female Shepard curse that much just made me happy for some reason.
Duke Nukem Forever may not be a true successor to Duke Nukem 3D and I'm very disappointed with it, but the game certainly is better than a lot of AA-AAA modern FPS out there who shares the same linear, scripted level design and other trends like health regeneration and two weapons limitation. At least there's humor, variety and the single player campaign have more than 6 hours.
