The limits of DVD storage capacity are being tested, but will not be maxed out by Mass Effect. During a Q&A update, project director Casey Hudson confirmed that Mass Effect "is a monstrous game. In fact, there was a time -- not too long ago -- when we pretty much scoffed at the idea of fitting onto one disc. But, there's an art to optimizing the data that goes on a disc"; Mass Effect will fit onto a single disc -- "but just barely."

Cool, but some people will still think that the size of a game depends on how megabytes it has.

Don't forget the PS2 used memory cards while the Xbox had a HHD. The PS2 outsold the Xbox 4:1.

I dont get this multiple disk argument.  RPGs are really long these days, I don't see how switching a disk is a big deal.

And not to mention, it hasn't happened yet.

Who cares? Seriously......why is this worth even talking about? Games arent good because of how much space they take up, if that were true than alot of the best games in history are crap because they didnt take up enough space....or whatever. Its just stupid to imply that how many discs a game is on effects, in any way shape or form, the quality of the title. Games are fun because you PLAY them and not because they take up X amount of space on your worthless, lets add more cost to a console, blu ray drive.

Changing disks isn't a very big deal to me, however that is one thing that PS3 owners will never have to worry about doing.  Having a larger storage capacity for games can't hurt..

Well, 360 GTA will use one disc, that's right, one disc, and will score the same or even higher than PS3 GTA. You can quote me on that.

Although I love MS and LOVE my xbox360, I think it was a big mistake not to use some sort of next gen media format. I really think this will prove to a big problem in the next few years.

thats a terrible argument.  You don't deserve to own a $400 console with a $60 game if you can't hold on to 2 disks.

HaHa, Exactly.
All those lemmings saying you don't need all that capacity, and the only reasonable use for Blu-ray was to store CGI.

Its just a delusional cow reaching, grabbing, clawing at anything in hopes of some good news for something in his favor. This is in reference to the TC. Seriously, who gives a damn if you have to swap a disk? Seeing as how 360 puts out a AAA game roughly every 2-3 months, Ill gladly switch.

The fact that this game fits on 1 disk shows that DVD is still capable. Mass Effect is a huge game. I wouldn't have been surprised if it was on 2 disks. This proves that shooter, racers, sports games, and most RPG's (I could see them spilling into 2, maybe 3 like with Blue Dragon) will fit on 1 disk as well...

not my fault im lazy ..lmao..but still blue dragon is comin with 3 disk..you have to make sure you put it in your case when you take it out... some people is just so into the game they jus switch the disk and leave it on the table or somethin....my friend lost the third disk for the final fantasy 7..lol..

Where there any games that used 2 dvd last gen? I don't think so. So it isn't last gen. Anyway who cares i don't think disc swapping is going to make the 360 fail. If that was the case the PS1 would have failed a long time ago.

Didn't the developers say there are 25 (I'm not sure of the exact number) different planets to discover and explore in this game? No wonder it barely fits. It's huge! :o

Doubt it, Saints Row, Oblivion and Crackdown are all huge games that fit on 1 DVD, why would GTA be any different? Like Hudson said, there's an art to optimizing. I'm sure if Bioware was willing to spend some extra time they could free up even more room on the DVD. Worst comes to worse MS can offer multi-disk games on 1 HD-DVD since the 360 already has the optional HD-DVD drive.

That and they used made voices for a customizable character.....and all those people in it. This should be by far bigger Oblivion, and that game used up alot of space. So that makes me think dev's are getting better at compression.

But it fits....nuff said.

yeah barely fit..how about games like unreal and gta? we already know epics is downgradin unreal so that the 360 and ps3 can be the same..im so piss off the 360 is holdin the ps3 games down...i wonder how many disk will gta comes with the 360..

MS already stated that the HD DVD drive would never be used for games.

Don't count on that.

It wouldn't be manditory, it would be an option for those who bought the HD-DVD drive. Makes sense to me, all it would do would possibly increase the sales of HD-DVD drives.

audio takes up way more space than that..... thats why its such a large game. Of course the many planets and long story don't help either... Point s, still fits on one.

Changing disks isn't a very big deal to me, however that is one thing that PS3 owners will never have to worry about doing. Having a larger storage capacity for games can't hurt..ps3gen

how about if you lost disk 2 and you cant play it? lol..i hate mulitple disk..you have to make sure you have all of it or else you screwed..lol..

thats a terrible argument. You don't deserve to own a $400 console with a $60 game if you can't hold on to 2 disks.

not my fault im lazy ..lmao..but still blue dragon is comin with 3 disk..you have to make sure you put it in your case when you take it out... some people is just so into the game they jus switch the disk and leave it on the table or somethin....my friend lost the third disk for the final fantasy 7..lol..

you have to make sure you put the game disk back in its case for every game you play.
