You should play KoTOR. It'll probably be a mirror image in many respects. It'll also probably tell you if you'll like this game (I'm sure it doesn't stray far from their style of game)Dreams-Visions
Gameplay is totally different. The only similar thing is pretty much how the dialogue works.

ya, I turned that off.

Same here.

Why did you turn it off? What purpose does it serve?

Its film grain, but to me it just looks like noise.

[QUOTE="Zero5000X"]i might just wait for the PS3 version.Zero5000X

There IS no PS3 version, and there never will be. MS owns the rights to the first ME.

No, BioWare owns the rights to Mass Effect and EA will own them as of January. EA or Sony could just publish the PS3 version. you know how EA is, they love multiplats.

I'm sorry, but MS owns the rights to the first ME. They Published it,a fter all. It's stated in all the articles. EA will Publish any Bioware games AFTER it, and THAT is when they will own the rights to the games.

MS doesnt own the rights to Mass Effect.

It does to ME1. and they'll probably negotiate a deal for 2 and 3 if ME1's sales are brisk.

So has it been established that Game Informer saying, about Mass Effect, that:

[quote="Game Informer"]Not since Star Wars made its theatrical debut in 1977 has there been a universe so full of wonder and awe.Zeliard9

is NOT, in fact, an exaggeration at all?

Not in the slightest. There is enough substance in ME to fill multiple media outlets. I want books, I want movies, I want comics, I want tv cartoon series, THIS is our moment!

Honestly, you never know what the planet will be until you get there. For example, one planet I went to was just a desert that some troops were tricked into going to. You find them all dead, and suddenly you are attacked by a sand worm thingy. On this level, you are using a vehicle. Ive also noticed many planets I cant land on because of the atmosphere.

Thanks! Just trying to get an idea of the scale of the game outside of the main quest.

I dont completely agree. I think the combat takes what KOTOR started, and improves it tenfold. Its also feels much less like the game is playing itself.

No problem, another thing is you dont feel like something is the main quest and something else isnt. You are trying to find things out, and you have to explore to get answers.

Negative. You can now interrupt people mid-scentence, there are more options available, and the sheer NUMBER of branches in the dialogue trees make KotOR's dialog system look like a complete and total joke.

Mass Effect is pretty much a third-person shooter. You actually have to aim to kill stuff. That's the very opposite of KOTOR.

You guys are talking about the details of how things work.

I'm saying if you like Bioware's style--which carries certainly characteristics and similarities through just about all of their games--then you'll like Mass Effect. Their approach to classes. Their approach to wandering around. Their approach to graphics. That stuff.

If you're not a fan of KoTOR, you probably won't be a fan of Mass Effect.

Is there any effect that comes from interrupting people before they can finish talking, other than basically skipping what they have to say? Basically what I'm asking is, is there any reason to interrupt someone other than for cinematic reasons, like the pure entertainment in seeing Shepherd telling someone to shut up mid-sentence? Does it affect how they feel about you or anything? Obviously this is no big deal at all either way, but I'm just curious.

I think the approach to combat is quite different. I've heard many people say that Mass Effect's combat is like GRAW with biotic powers.

They'll become more agressive, if not angry. Sometimes, using agressive interruptions can get you places. For instance, when I had to deal with some drunkard in a strip club who wouldn't divulge info I wanted, I had to use said 'aggression' while he was talking. And by agression, I mean putting a pistol to his forehead.

According to Derek Watts (Art Director on ME), the film grain was added to hide some lighting problems in the early builds. Shadows I think.

It was left as an option in the final build because they felt it gave the game a more cinematic feel.

To interrupt someone like that would be awesome. I can so easily picture it. They'll just start babbling, and you pick the aggression option while they're still talking, and Shepherd just interrupts them by suddenly putting a gun to their head.

I'm sure the combat is awesome...so if combat was your concern, you'll probably be a really happy camper. Now, if you were put off by the approach to dialogue or the class-based approach to character creation, then you might have a different opinion in the end.

But gameplay probably shouldn't be anyone's concern.

As fanboyish as it sounds, the game sounds pretty perfect all-around. :P I'm not sure if any aspect of the game should be anyone's concern, honestly, unless they just don't dig RPGs. I actually have heard complaining from one person who supposedly also already has ME, who said that there is "too much dialogue". Take that for what it's worth. I don't think it's worth very much.

Dreams-Visions

There was combat in KotOR? :P

Yeah, I'm not worried about the gun sequences, they look good. And, I'm sure there's a decently developed levelling system and story.

All that's left is for me to worry about how we go about getting quests... if that is good, then I'll love it.

"too much dialogue"Zeliard9

I think that person might be playing the wrong genre

[QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"]If you're not a fan of KoTOR, you probably won't be a fan of Mass Effect.Zeliard9

Sigh. I hope that's not true.

Though, the thing is, I almost really liked KotOr, so if thisgame is better than, it should be okay.

You'd be surprised. People that really love JRPGs find WRPGs hard to get into. But maybe Mass Effect will unite teh peoplez!

I've always had an easier time getting into JRPGs, though there are a few notable WRPGs that I find awesome. WRPGs have better stories, but are less compelling for some reason.

I wonder if its because the emphasis is on the gameplay rather than the story itself? (ie no cutscenes)

I do get bored during cutscenes... unless it's a really great game. This one sounds like it has enough gameplay to go with the story. Hope that's true.

You can move around in cutscenes in this game, right? Or am I thinking of AC?

There IS no PS3 version, and there never will be. MS owns the rights to the first ME.

No, BioWare owns the rights to Mass Effect and EA will own them as of January. EA or Sony could just publish the PS3 version. you know how EA is, they love multiplats.

I'm sorry, but MS owns the rights to the first ME. They Published it,a fter all. It's stated in all the articles. EA will Publish any Bioware games AFTER it, and THAT is when they will own the rights to the games.

MS doesnt own the rights to Mass Effect.

They do own publishing rights, which is what you need to put the game on store shelves. It is not coming to the PS3 sorry. The sequels may have a chance however.

There IS no PS3 version, and there never will be. MS owns the rights to the first ME.

So, since it is a connected trilogy, there will never be a Mass Effect on PS3, not that MS would allow it anyway And Bioshock is RECONFIRMED only on 360/PC after latest rumors of it coming to PS3 So, all in all, no ME1-2-3, no Bioshock on PS3

Verge: Riddle me this: how does levelling work?

I just had a mini-brainstorm session, and a large portion of my enjoyment of RPGs resides in my fanatical obsession with gaining new levels. How do you gain experience? And how do you use that experience to make your guy stronger? Are there base upgrades given your person as well as points that you distribute into specific skills? Are there skill trees?

I think we can all safely say that when Jeff said that another 10 would be given on Gamespot, maybe sooner than we all think...he was referring to this game...no doubt about it.
