Ā

Metroid Prime Hunters.

StealthSting

that's the exception not the rule. one could say Splinter cell is also classified as an action adventure game yet it's got online.

Hell MGS3 has online, is it this feature that will make or break MGS4? Is it THE feature that I'm must looking forward to see in MGS4? Quite frankly at this point in time the idea of online on MGS4 only crossed my mind...... At this point in time

Thank you sir for another excellent example ;)Ā

First of all, we don't even know what this means.

Second, this thread has some of the lamest damage control I've ever seen.
"We wouldn't online for Metroid anyways"?

C'mon now.
I mean, I would expect this kind of stuff from karicha or whatnot, but Jandurin?
Disappointed.

And even if you use the lame excuse of "Metroid is a single player experience", what would be so hard to have both single player and online multiplayer, even if the online multiplayer is like Hunters. Doesn't take away from the single player campaign being a great Metroid adventure.

Seriously. C'mon.

There's not even proof that there will be no online yet.
And it just makes this damage control even more pathetic.

DireToad

Why is it damage control? Seriously, only at this gen would it be considered damage control for a series that never relied on Online to be so important for the said series in the first place.

This really impresses me, specially when you talk about MP I mean, if it were Starcraft or the Warcraft series or hell I could be here all day but Metroid? Come on.Ā

Tell that to Irrational Games.

Many developers use online multiplayer as a crutch for a poor singleplayer. I never enjoyed multiplayer in the Prime series. I have always enjoyed the adventuring and the sense of being all alone. I have played a little bit of Hunters and have found the singleplayer does not meet the same quality as the other two Prime games. It feels... lesser. That is just me though. I take this news of Prime 3 not having online multiplayer as a good sign.

Good.Ā  Keep the multiplayer for Brawl.Jandurin

There isn't really anything you could do online in MP3.Ā  As for the graphics?Ā  I actually do seeĀ a difference between the first 2, and MP3.Ā  MP3 looks worse.Ā  But not really.Ā  You're just posting resized screenshots, or ones that show the most clutter.

Agreed.

Or better yet, Nintendo announces a Metroid Prime Hunters for the Wii.
And then all the sheep go "Woo now I can choose between single or multiplayer or get both!"

While both playing modes could be done on the same game.

Firstly, I don't even think that those are new screenshots.Ā  We'd have seen an update on multiple websites if there were new screens to be found, and besides you posted some of the worse looking screens rather than the screens that really show off how great the visuals look.Ā  Personally, I thought MP was always ahead of it's time graphically anyway, only in this case it has finally caughtĀ up with itself.Ā  The game looks great though.

Secondly, that doesn't prove anything... there hasn't been a new update on MP3 in months, so we are still waiting for the final word on online play.Ā  If it doesn't though, then who cares?Ā  Metroid Prime isn't meant to be a "Halo killer", it's its own single player designed franchise.Ā  Metroid came first.

Lastly, the developers already mentioned before that they were at the very least considering use of WiiConnect24, perhaps for DC.Ā  Even that would be enough for me.

Ā

Not really... I have mixed reactions about Metroid Prime and multiplayer.

Metroid Prime Hunters was a great multiplayer experience, but the single player was uneventful and dull.Ā  Therefore, if they used the extra time to add in depth online multiplayer (which I doubt that they did), then I'll be happy because I'll still know that Retro, being the intricate developers they are, still are providing a great single player game as well.

However, if they added tons of stuff to the single player adventure, then I will still be satisfied because it'll be more polished... and will build upon the single player experience Metroid fans know, love, and expect.Ā  It's a win win situation really.

this has become a thread to vent against nintendo.Ā  TC has pulled this info out of his own head.Ā  Those are NOT new screens, and they are low resolution snapshots at that.Ā  For god's sake, those screens look worse than the original MP you'd have to be a blind fanboy to fall for this thread.Ā  MP3's online component, or lack thereof, has NOT been confirmed by anyone who knows anything.Ā  I would say that MP3 will likely see an online battle arena.Ā  It makes sense because of the unique array of weaponry and abilities samus has.Ā  She has missles, beams, morph bombs.Ā  The morph ballĀ  would be an awesome defensive maneuvre.Ā  You could have battles where you can't lock on and have to aim with the wiimote only.Ā  You could have enemies on the field (eg space pirates, metroids)---which would capture theĀ MP experience much better.Ā  The game will probably have online multiplayer, or multiplayer of some kind atĀ least.Ā  If it doesn't, that would be a shame

Ā

Actually, those screens don't look worse, they actually look cleaner than the screens for Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2... however, like those two games, Wii and GC games screenshot terribly, just look at Rogue squadron 3. Heck, the RE4 GC screens look butt ugly but we know how that game looks in motion...

Ā

Same thing here, the games are designed to look good in motion, and not to screenshot well. The Crysis devs were talking about the difference that actually makes. That's why the dev kit screens tend to look better than actual screens, because they're designed for screenshots, while the actual games are designed to look good in motion...

Just moved it to my gamefly que.Ā  No on-line in a shooter = no buy from me.Ā  I usually only buy an adventure or RPG when it comes to a game only having SP and rent everything else.Ā  Hopefully sales will reflect (and I don't mean by a substantial margin, and not hoping it flops) that there is some general interest in playing on-line.

If Retro decides that putting multiplayer into the game will be beneficial and not detract from the singleplayer in any way then I will agree with you. But if the time spent on mutliplayer pulls quality out of the singleplayer I will be very disappointed. I played the first and second Prime games for the singleplayer... not for the splitscreen mutliplayer in Prime 2.

Mainly because GameSpot is generally the last place on the internet to post daily news.

Try GAF, Kotaku, MaxConsole, GoNintendo, etc...

They're new screens, they look like garbage and millions of people are wondering why the hell this game was delayed for 8 months.Ā

Personally, I would wait until information comes out from the Gamer's Day event (1 hr 35 min from right now) before saying anything else that *might* make one look like an idiot.

I would LOVE for online to be announced and see the sheep change their tune.

It would be glorious.

"OH WE HAVE ONLINE NOW SO IT ROCKS. Nintendo told us its cool to have online so now we love it."

Ā

Ā

TBH though you might see that on SW, I can guarantee you that on the Metroid boards you'd see the ground split open and all hell will break loose. Metroid's gameplay isn't meant for online (and if it is then fragging is the wrong way to go about it).

I knew mp3 was just pushed back for the holidays with no online and no graphic upgrade either classic nindendo hold back games for increased sales. Based on the name and seeing there is nothing decent to play for months mps should sell like halo 3 on the 360 I bet.

are you sure they are new shots? it looks like i've seen them before. even if they are new, the game in motion would probably tell us more about the upgrade/nogradereyad-u

They are from the E306 trailer, they are not really new.

Now that I think of it... Why would those small, insignificant sites get information like this before the real gaming sites, like Gamespot...

ithilgore2006

Mainly because GameSpot is generally the last place on the internet to post daily news.

Try GAF, Kotaku, MaxConsole, GoNintendo, etc...

They're new screens, they look like garbage and millions of people are wondering why the hell this game was delayed for 8 months.

Can you confirm that they're new screens?

Yeah, I'd rather wait till it's up here in plain english on Gamespot...Ā  And even then, they'll probably tell us how it looks in actual motion... Ā

Ā

That's what I'm seeing noone realizes, every game looks better in motion.Ā  they rant about 360 and PS3 screens but ignore videos that make the screens look like chicken poo, because they do compared to the game in motion...

Ā

intresetingly, screens taken off of a TV screen do often look better than feeded shots...

DireToad

It would require drastic control reconfiguiring for multiplayer making the two experiences incosistent. That us unless you want a multiplayer with a lock-on. The strafing function is also tied to the lock on. For multiplayer to feel like MPH they would need to alter the controls (not impossible, but it seems more trouble than it's worth really, might as well make two different games). I'm sure it won't take too much effort to tack on a crappy online mode like MP2's multiplayer if they really wanted, but it seems kinds pointless really.

[QUOTE="DireToad"]Why?
What's so illogical about putting two good aspects of two good games into one package?
What's so hard to grasp about Corruption having the cla55ic MP single player adventure and have some multiplayer a la Hunters packed in as well?

I don't see what's so wrong about that.foxhound_fox

If Retro decides that putting multiplayer into the game will be beneficial and not detract from the singleplayer in any way then I will agree with you. But if the time spent on mutliplayer pulls quality out of the singleplayer I will be very disappointed. I played the first and second Prime games for the singleplayer... not for the splitscreen mutliplayer in Prime 2.

It would seriously just cause worry.

If they could make the single player exactly the same in either case, then whatever.Ā  If the multiplayer could be great with single player being great, then fine.

If they added multiplayer, I would wait for the reviews to come in before purchase, I guess, whereas no multiplayer = instant purchase, because that means my single player experience will be AS great AS possible.

I don't see why people are jumping all over this. Personally I've never enjoyed online gaming, so no big deal for me if it doesn't have it. What I have noticed, and has been stated by others, is that sometimes focus on multiplayer can lead to a shorter, or less rich single player mode. Why would I miss an element (online) in a game that hasn't had it. If I enjoyed MP in the past without online, why won't I enjoy this new version?

People like to call sheep brainwashed, but I sometimes wonder if it isn't the other fanboys that have been brainwashed to think that online is the be all and end all of modern gaming. While having online could possibly enhance what will likely be a great game, not having online will not detract from it.

[QUOTE="Bread_or_Decide"]

Sigh.

Lets set all this straight.

I am not comparing Lair to Metroid.

This guy brought up UNCHARTED and its lack of online gameplay.

I brought up Resistance.

That was ignored.

My response to the mentioning of Uncharted was that thats not a genre people expect to play multiplayer. Instead I brought up Lair and Warhawk as two games that are missing the important multiplayer and single player options people expect from those kinds of games. Proving that I am not a hypocrite and I judget all games on the same criteria.

WITH THAT SAID, Metroid is missing an online component that people expect. PERIOD.

Anything else is just fanboy craziness.

Good LORD MAN. I swear you people are just insufferable at times.

Ā

karicha9

BUT YOU SAID MOST GAMES HAVE ONLINE.

I brought up a game that didn't. You made an excuse: It's an adventure game. So is MPH.

MPH isn't an adventure game...

Metroid Prime is a game for fans of the series, fans of exploration, and who like the scanning concept (which I'm obsessed about... probably has to do with my Turn based strategy addiction (MGS:PO & SRW OG FTW!)) and also, those who are fans of surreal world design, which Retro has been praised for in both MP games... (well, they did have David Kirsch working for them...)

Ā

It's not a game for everyone.

Ā

And no, I don't think it was delayed for the holiday season... uh.. August?Ā  Rather, Retro delayed Metroid Prime before to make the game more balanced, and there was a clear improvement from the E3 version and the final version... Ā

Ā

We'll see once more information is avaliable about the game... Ā Ā
