I will use your Gears of War as the comparison due to your profile picture. I see 21 perfect scores for MGS4 and 24 perfect scores for Gears of War. BUT, Gears has nearly 70, yes 70 more reviews than MGS4, yet they are almost equal in perfect scores. Also, take a look at some of the reviews that gave MGS4 an 8.0. They are garbage. One of the Euro reviews stated that you have to go through the first couple of acts FIGHTING BOTH SIDES OF THE MILITARY BECAUSE THEY WILL BOTH AUTOMATICALLY COME AFTER YOU IF THEY SEE YOU. Did this dude play the game? The rebels are on your side as long as YOU don't attack them. Most of those 8.0's don't take the game for what it is, it is Metal Gear, not some FPS with NO STORY. And yes I own a 360 and Gears, it is not close to MGS4. I also see NCAA football 04 ahead of MGS4, do you think that is better as well? I hope not unless you are blind. MGS4 is epic, deal with it.

Are you for real? A great game is not always defined by score. It dosent mean anything. I guess I should think GTA4 is one of the greatest games ever made because gamerankings says so. Well I dont. All games are a matter of opinion.

Seriously though. MGS4 and GTA IV are not 10's in my eye. I think a 9.5 would have been a more appropriate score. I have yet to really see a 10 game, even though SMG was pretty close.

Who are the real hypocrits? The PS3 fanboys that insisted on using Gamerankings in the pre-MGS4 days, or the Xbox360 fanboys who insist on using Gamerankings now? Perhaps there is some middle ground to be had, like an averaged GR/GS score, 50-50 split.

• Metal Gear Solid 4 got a 100% on Gamespot and a 92.7% on Gamerankings.
• 100 * (.50) + 92.7 * (.50) = 96.35%.

Compared to:

• Gears of War got a 96% on Gamespot and a 93.8% on Gamerankings.
• 96 * (.50) + 93.8 * (.50) = 94.9%.

You could mess around with the percentages, I think Gamerankings should weight a little more considering the number of opinions it considers.

Gamerankings doesn't tell you whether one game is better than another. It tells you what game has a higher average of review scores across print and web publications.

Using Gamerankings (or any review score) as gospel to tell you whether one game is better than another is foolish. Especially at the point where we're niggling between varying shades of 9+, relative quality is completely subjective.

Having played both to completion, I personally find MGS4 much better than Gears of War.

Anyway, this could have been seen by anyone the day it came out. It's a love or hate it franchise/game, which is why it seems to get so many 10's, a smaller number of 8's, and an even smaller number of scores in between -- even the haters had to give it an 8 or higher, its undeniably impressive.

Halo is the biggest game ever in America. It is what Starcraft is to the Koreans. I don't see how anyone could argue that SotC, MGS3 (are you kidding?) and God of War are better or more important games.

Gamerankings doesn't tell you whether one game is better than another. It tells you what game has a higher average of review scores across print and web publications.

Using Gamerankings (or any review score) as gospel to tell you whether one game is better than another is foolish. Especially at the point where we're niggling between varying shades of 9+, relative quality is completely subjective.

Having played both to completion, I personally find MGS4 much better than Gears of War.
