LOL.....Looks good but still not as good as Gears of War or Uncharted. Mass Effect says hello as well....
MGSIV looks great, and hopefully gameplay and its story will blow us away next month....
:( still have to wait 29 days more !!!!
I don't even think MGS4 is close to being the king of graphics on consoles. The visuals don't seem dynamic enough IMO.
Last gen, the MGS series owned graphically however.
Forget the graphics.
This game is about GAMEPLAY.
And yes..the mustache is your greatest weapon. Just like the cigarettes in the previous games.
that last pic is from a japanese juice ad.....
I doubt it's in game, especially when compared to the other shots.
The graphics are certainly good, but it is simply out****d by the likes of Killzone 2, Gears, Uncharted, Mirror's Edge and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.Tragic_Kingdom7
I'm sorry man but Uncharted used to look good. And NO, uncharted characters models doesn't even come close to MGS4. Gears 2? are you kidding? It's an updated version of Gears 1. And prologue is freakin awesome in terms of graphics and is the best racing game to date but overall looks small when it comes to MGS4.
MGS4 does not need to be graphics king, it looks great but its strength comes from the story and gameplay which I have a positive feeling they're gonna blow us (series' fans) away !!!!

I agree, but the graphics still look great (in the top 10 best looking games for this gen) and I will enjoy every bit of it.

What is it that you think looks so outstanding about MGS4? IMO, its lacking in texture work and other such visual dynamics, making it look less rich than the games I mentioned. It looks kind of sterile to me.
Also, Gran Turismo looks small? What is that supposed to mean?
And for the record, I'm talking about Gears 1 and 2.

Looks better than any of those games but I do agree that we have already seen games coming out that look better graphically. MGS4 may hold the crown briefly when it comes out... but come this fall/winter, the crown will be back up for grabs! Still, MGS4 will probably be the best game out this year no doubt.

Honestly, the only thing that the game is low on is texture quality. When it comes to lighting and the amount of graphical detail onscreen, MGS4 really is a technical marvel. The images are very clean and this is yet another game where the gameplay is CGI-like quality.
Some folks have become so caught up in textures that they forget there is more to a game having good graphics than the texture work. This game looks so much more beautiful than Gears. I believe Gears 2 will be more powerful graphically, but even then what I've seen of it so far does not look as beautiful as the design choices of MGS4.
WOW the difference is HUGE!
Gears 1:
(Jaggie city) running around 30fps and dips alot!!!!
Gears 2:
(smooth city or tank thingy) running at 60fps in a big area
AgentH
Yes it is huge
nice example. no real improvement in graphical fidelity.WOW the difference is HUGE!
Gears 1:
Gears 2:

No disrespect to MGS4, but...
Ninja Gaiden 2's graphics blow MGS4 away...
dabear
Not even close. NG2's graphics barely blow away NG's graphics, lol! MGS4's graphics will be the best when they come out, but that will only last until the Fall/Winter.

Most agree that it's not really a huge difference. The new one does have a lot more clarity, due to better lighting, and that is the biggest improvement.

I disagree with almost everything you said.
The lighting looks no better than anything else IMO, and it's not anymore detailed than anything else. In fact, I think it looks less detailed than Gears.
Also, textures are pretty important. Alot of the time, it's the texture work that makes games pop and crackle. The lack of compelling texture work in MGS4 makes it lack that pop and crackle for me. I find the graphics to be cold and clinical, lacking any kind of powerful visual intrigue.
I also don't think it's any more closer to CGI quality than the games I listed. And there are tons of games that look "clean." I think that Kojima should have spent less time on a "clean" look and instead should have devoted more time to making it look interesting.
Everytime I look at this game, I try and see what is so great about the graphics, and fail to. It truly baffles me.
Like I said, MGS used to set the standard for graphics on the PS2, but now, it looks as if Kojima is using the same tricks and they just don't impress me in 2008.

I know, but to me the biggest improvement is the framerate its by far the most important imo. Gears1 was too choppy at times which is bad for tps.
Now I'm not trying to dis the game because if all goes well, will be my reason to snag a PS3 but you must be joking as that pic may not even compare to Splinter Cell CT on the old Xbox.just another quick one graphics king AM confirmed

lol, to be honest, that sc pic looks better. mgs4 isnt even close to having great graphics. keep posting the cgi to hype it up cows, gives us all something to laugh about. those gameplay pics look god awful, so keep away from them if you can.
MGS isn't about static shots. When your in the game and you experience everything around you thats when you get a feel for what Kojima and team have accomplished. The world itself as it lives and breathes is the accomplishment. Not these static, boring, storyless, lifeless shots.
Come on MGS fans...you're better than this. Leave the graphics to the graphic whores. That is not why we love this series. We care about the characters and the storylines.

once more with feeling. surely we dont count cut scenes as graphical prowess ability now do we?
Perhaps you missed the debut of the 13 min intro yesterday.... but the gameplay actually looks the same as the cutscenes in MGS4. And what you're attempting to claim ownage on with screenshots unfortunately can not phase anyone who has seen the game in motion.

I agree.... its about the gameplay and mostly the story which make anything else boring !!!
Still though, i dont understand the bashing, have seen gameplay vids and the 10 minute vid which was mainly cutscenes but some gameplay too, and it looks great... and you cannot argue that the pics are taken from cutscenes so thats why they look better because its practically the same graphics as in-game... the transition is flawless !!!
