[QUOTE="haze_blaze"]At no point did I contradict myself. At no point did I agree with your argument. Your argument was that the game looked bad b/c of it's textures. I merely pointed out that the textures in no way define how the game as a whole looks. I then pointed out the gameplay vids, which show that the textures do look fine. There are games that sport more textures and still don't look as good as this game, period.
Ramadear
You are in disagreement with yourself. So how do you expect to make a decent reply to me? Now you contradict yourself once again by saying the textures do look fine. When before it was that they look good in "motion". See the shifting in yourself where you can't even remain consistent in what you are saying? And to make it known, I don't have a problem with MGS4. I think its AAA material, I'm also a big fan of the series. However saying the game is king of graphics on consoles would be a BIG overstatement. Because its won't be nor has any of the MGS game been about that. Which was my point. That the gameplay, story and overall presentation should be hyped. Not the graphics like its the next Crysis.
Dude, what the hell are you talking about? I'm in serious doubt of your comprehension skills at this point. I NEVER said that the textures look good in motion or that they didn't look good otherwise. For the last time, what I said is that textures =/= good graphics... and that is your sole argument. The graphics in the game look excellent... I have never said anything other than that anywhere in this thread... so how have I been inconsistent exactly?
Based on the gameplay footage that was shown yesterday, it would be fairly reasonable to call this one of the best looking games when it comes out. But I've already stated, before your ridiculous statements, that MGS4's visually glory will only last until the Fall/Winter when we begin to see the next push of graphics from the next wave of games.
[QUOTE="Ramadear"][QUOTE="haze_blaze"]No, I mean "we", as we've already discussed this topic to death last night. Not only has there been a general concensus as to how good the gameplay looks, how well the cutscenes seamlessly transition into gamepaly, and how bad@ss the intro is... EVERY single preview of the game has commented on the stunning visuals. So I can confidently say "we" and know that I speak for more than just myself. Fanboys are so lame, give up already.

You should be in doubt about your own self. You didn't say that the textures look good in motion? Second of all, the textures look just fine in motion, the game looks great."
You just did it again, you don't even remember what you wrote. Unless you believe that there is a huge definition difference between the word good and fine. Because I don't. While its true that textures aren't the pinnacle of graphics, there needs to be something that overshadows that short coming. Bioshock has bad textures but its art direction makes up for that, the same for Metroid Prime 3. MGS4 doesn't have that distinct feature that makes you ignore the bad textures. Unless you count the models, they are really good. I wouldn't call it one of the best looking games. It will probably be "one of the best games" but not looking.

Once again, based on the gameplay vid, still looks pretty clear that it will be among the best looking games this gen. What this game DOES have is a lot of detail on screen at any one time. The game handles a lot of activity simultaneously and has a very crisp picture... my argument is still consistent. I THINK THERE ARE GAMES THAT HAVE HAD BETTER TEXTURES THAN THIS ONE. AND YET... this game still looks better than a lot of them. Just watched the vid again... It has more to do with what the devs were able to pull off onscreen while maintaining such a sharp image throughout. The best thing I can think of to compare it to is a well drawn anime or cartoon... there is no texture work in an anime, however the picture in animes is definitely more impressive than video games... normally due to the art direction and detail seen onscreen. Your example of Bioshock was perfect. Everything about it is my favorite game on the 360, including the graphics. But there are definitely games that sport better textures than it.

The name of the thread (of which you were probably the creator) claimed that Banjo will be the best platformer this gen!!! So don't try to take my comment out of context of the thread. I also commented in that same thread as to how much Banjo looked in motion as compared to the screenshots... but as far as gameplay, no the game doesn't look like it will match either R&C or SMG. And it's BECAUSE I'm a manticore that I can boldly say that.

I downloaded and put it on my TV, and it looks a bit better than Gears1, but there was still a bit of foggy bloom in the backround. I mean we have to see more as in more levels, so we can make a better comparison.game looks decent but nothing special gears of war 2 will destroy it in terms of graphics this yearParadiddleFill
Wouldn't say destroy it, but yea Gears 2 will look better. Resistance 2 probably will as well. KZ2 looks like it will own them all visually. But I think that's pretty much the way it works... the later a game comes out, the better it looks in comparison to the games before it (of course not all games apply, here's looking at you HAZE). I'm hopeful that GOW III will look even better than KZ2. We're still early in this gen... there will always be a better looking game on the way out for a few more years to come.

Only problem with that is that MGS4 is OBVIOUSLY pushing more polygons and packing much more detail onscreen :?. But hey, do whatever suits you!
Hate all you want, but manticores do tend to have less bias judgements when it comes to games b/c we get to play them on all systems. By the way, I still have that game on the xbox... and it clearly isn't up there with MGS4 ;).

Not only that, but in that very same thread I said I thought the game looked better in motion than the screenshots showed and that I'd be looking forward to the game actually coming out. This guy's just pissy b/c he wants to believe that Banjo will be the best platformer this gen! Lol, cool if it's the only one you access too... but seriously, that's a pretty tall claim from a gen that has already given us R&C and SMG. I definitely defended the game from those that knocked it solely b/c of the visuals... I even defended it against cows claiming it didn't qualify as a real platformer! But for an obvious lem such as himself to make it out to be the best of the gen... well, it sure doesn't look like it so far. Think he's just upset b/c some ppl actually get to enjoy games that he doesn't.
All those low res pics u guys are showing dont do this game justice. Wait until the game comes out, I can almost guarantee those of u trying to say mgs4 looks like crap, will get owned. It might not be the best looking game but it does look awesome and good enough to be right up there. Especially the character models. Ill take snakes character model over any of the gears 2 character models graphically but I think gears 2 looks better with the environments from what we have seen so far. Both good looking games.

Lol, dude... do you really think you're fooling anyone? Why are you putting YEAR OLD pics of KZ up against Gears 2??? Are you really that desperate for a try at some ownage?! Lol, and even then... yea that KZ2 pic does look kind of better... but only b/c of the character models and the rendering of that gun in contrast with the motion blur. At any rate, the new footage of KZ does look visually better than the new footage of Gears. The thing to compare of those two games comes down to gameplay.
And no, I'm a manitcore that can speak honestly b/c I get to play both games either way :P.

haze_blaze
You = wrong. Sorry...
Not even close. NG2's graphics barely blow away NG's graphics, lol! MGS4's graphics will be the best when they come out, but that will only last until the Fall/Winter.
Quotes from GamePro Preview:
The graphics: You thought Gears of War looked amazing? Think again. Metal Gear Solid 4 will blow you away with its ultra-detailed characters and intricate environments, painting some of the most gorgeous graphics seen this side of Crysis. In motion, the graphics look so realistic that your eyes begin to register the visuals as a movie rather than a game. From what we saw, MGS4 puts its 50GB Blu-ray disc to outstanding use.
The guns: The final game will feature over 70 weapons, from lethal assault rifles to silent tranquilizer guns, and you can outfit many of them with scopes, recoil grips, laser sights, flashlights, and more. Collecting enemy weapons will unlock new guns and "Drebin Points" for further customization. There are 70+ guns in all.
The sound: MGS4 has some of the crispest, clearest sound effects we've ever heard -- the booming gunshots will make your hair stand on end! The Hollywood-****soundtrack is also predictably fantastic, and Snake's raspy voice sounds more desiccated than ever. GamePro editor Sid Shuman went so far as to say that MGS4 has "the best sound I've ever heard in a game."
The story: MGS4 is the darkest Metal Gear game by far: Snake is in terrible physical shape, and the world seems to rest on the brink of self-inflicted annihilation. Though the mood is dark, it's not depressing: you'll find plenty of characters to care about in this war-torn world.
Quotes from IGN Preview:
Visually, Metal Gear Solid 4 is even more striking on the console than it has been in released trailers. We always had a sense that what Kojima was showing us was incredible footage, but the detail within the game itself is simply breathtaking. One example of this: when an explosion goes off near Snake, a fine coating of dust covers the camera, adding to the cinematic feel of the game. Another showcase of the striking graphics is the seamless transition between cutscenes and gameplay, many of which are only highlighted by a camera shift to indicate the cutscene has ended and gameplay has begun.
Another thing that stands out is the sound quality of the game, which is presented in Certified Dolby Digital Sound. The ambient battlefield noise provides a haunting backdrop to onscreen action, making you feel like just one part of a much larger conflict. The game's soundtrack is subtly shaded by local musical influences, as in the Middle East level, punctuated by a driving techno beat that builds when the guards become alerted to your presence and increases further if gunplay breaks out.
As I said earlier, there's only so much I can go into right now, but this is the system seller that we've all known Metal Gear Solid 4 was going to be. This preview has only scratched the surface; we haven't even described some of the bosses, radical and innovative game mechanics, or other features that make this title a fitting conclusion to one of the best franchises in gaming.
From the Q&A article provided by IGN previewers:
How are the visuals? Are there any screen tearing or frame rate drop issues? What about the animation -- did everything seem fluid?
Animation of everything, from Snake to the actions of the PMCs to the evasion of Gekkos and FROG soldiers are incredibly fluid and slick. For the most part, what we've seen ran at a stable 60 frames a second. There were only a few instances in which the framerate dipped for a second or two, but that was typically caused by large onscreen explosions coupled with screen effects (such as dirt being kicked up on the camera lens).
As for visual fidelity, the trailers that have been released for the game are just a brief indication of what the game truly looks like. The title looks much sharper than trailers or screenshots show.

Even with all these hands on previews from game sites who have already beaten the game and seen with there own eyes, fanboys here dont want to hear it. Truth is MGS4 is going to be awesome. Like I said before to some of the haters who doubt MGS4's glory, the first review was going to be AAAA or AAA, nothing less, and we have the first review which is a perfect 10. Let the ownage begin for any other haterz who say MGS4 is just another average game or graphics look like crap. U all will get owned. :)

The title looks much sharper than trailers or screenshots show.Nolan16
yes this is when they saw it at e3
No, that is from their preview back in Feb... it was a beta build but I doubt the graphics would have seen too much more improvement since then though. But from their impressions, the game really didn't need much graphical polishing.
[QUOTE="iamright05"]i lol'd at MGS4 the king of graphics on consoles. Its not even close lots of games, both on the 360 and the ps3 are way ahead of it.thegoldenpoo
yup, comapred to uncharted, mass effect, and what we've seen of gears2 this stands no chance of being graphics king
Lol, dude... this game looks better than Mass Effect or Uncharted. Just wait until the game comes out and we can see more than that one level. Gears 2 will look better, yes I agree. But it also will not even be close to coming out when MGS4 is out. Lems will make the same argument when cows claim ownage with KZ2... and it's a fair argument.
i know but this game looks great dont get me wrong no graphics king Killzone 2 has that by the feet.Nolan16
Yea, I'm not arguing with you... I totally agree.
MGS4 has the best character models and the best art direction, to go along with servicable textures. Character models are the most important thing anyway that's what your look at 90% of the time.f50p90
cows are sure a confusing bunch.
if Character textures is what matters most when defining the 'best looking' game, then why is Uncharted known as the console graphics king when Gears had way better character textures?

lol. seriously, cows need to realize that all of their predictions are taken with a grain of salt, they are the kings of (unmerited) hype

Gears character textures? You mean how they were recycled so that EVERY character looked exactly the same, COGs and Locusts alike. and how marcus Fenix's head (ear especially) looked like paper mache? Those character textures???[QUOTE="ogvampire"][QUOTE="f50p90"]MGS4 has the best character models and the best art direction, to go along with servicable textures. i will give you a hint: its not uncharted

Uhhh, ok... maybe less than a month is too long of a wait for you! As for myself, I've seen the full game of ME & Uncharted... like both of those games and think they're amazing. But what I've seen of MGS4 looks even more impressive, although for different reasons. I do think there are things that both of those games still do better than newer games... but overall the look of MGS4 is just much sharper. However... how can any of us really make an accurate judgement before seeing more than one level of the game?!
I say the same thing for Gears 2 actually. I criticized it at first b/c the level looked so confined. But according to 1UP, they were told that there are going to be some open levels which truly are bigger in scale & scope... they just haven't been shown off yet.

From what I have seen, MGS4 looks much better than Gears1 all around. I think there are plenty of games that look better than Gears1 all around. (Not commenting on uncharted, never played) I think Assassins Creed is better looking, Mass Effect, Prologue, just off the top of my head.Gears2 DOES improve on ALOT of the visual gripes I had with Gears1 though. Light being the first and most obvious one.

Lol, this thread is totally off track now!!! Anyway, Uncharted ldoes ook considerably better than that (char models & environment actually)... But Gears 2 will look better than Uncharted... what's the big deal?

lol, you guys are funny. MGS4 clearly looks better than Gears. But who cares?! Gears 2 will look better than the first one or MGS4... can you really not handle a better looking game being on another system for a few more months?
